Is there a method to display pop up messages on X display? I found xmessage, however I was hoping for something a little more flexible. like being able to tell xmessage to display a file (typically one line in the file). then send it a signal to tell it to re-read the file and show the new data. Sure I can kill it and re-show it but that isnt very nice... Is there something available in centos

I thought I'd play with making my system an ntp server. I did the "service ntpd start" it started OK. on my laptop I did "ntpdate IP" and it says no server for sync found. My firewall has open ntp:udp What did I miss? Thanks, Jerry

I installed a gcvs package today. I tried to then run gcvs and I get this error: gcvs: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory rpm -qa | grep libgtk returns nothing. yum install libgtk returns Nothing to do. On my development system I have installed PostgreSQL 8.x from the yum.pgsqlrpms.org repository. I am getting a dependency error: Error: Missing Dependency: libossp-uuid.so.15 is needed by package postgresql-contrib I can find references to this file in an rpm for fc7 (uuid-1.5.1-3.fc7.i386) but nothing else. I have been asked to update OpenLDAP to the latest stable version. I am using CentOS 4.2 and have OpenLDAP 2.2.13 installed. I can install from source if I have to, but I would rather stay with rpm packages if possible. I found an rpm from Fedora Core Development on RPMFIND. Will this one work with Centos, or should I grab the source rpm and rebuild it? Bowie

I have an init script that after running, causes my terminal not to log out cleanly. Here's what i mean: # /etc/init.d/script restart << this runs fine, returns my shell prompt # exit << When I enter this command, my shell window just stays "stuck" and actually won't close down. My test / development host runs CentOS-5.x x86_64. There I have successfully created an rpm for GiT-1.6.1-1 for x86_64.
