Cannot use kickstart file to install CentOS 6.2 into a blank harddisk
I am trying using a kickstart file to install CentOS 6.2 into a new virtual machine (the MBR sector of the harddisk is all zero), however I found that the installer cannot go through the harddisk partition. It failed after I chose "Use All Space" at harddisk partition option. The error message is: http://anony.ws/i/bMcTJ.png "You have not defined a root partition (/), which is

PXE / Kickstart / nfs ....
hello there, I wonder if you could help me: I am trying to install 50 diskless servers using PXE / kickstart, it all starts well, DHCP server issues a dynamic address, tftp issues the kickstart file, the client starts reading the KS file but at some point anaconda brings up an unhandled exception related to Python when reading Comps.xml?? What is really unsettling is the fact that if I plug

using true UTC timezone everywhere
One problem with the daylight savings is that they mess with reporting tools that use timestamps. I guess an application could be configured to log UTC instead of local time, but that's not always doable. Also, if you have servers in several different timezones, it's better if all systems follow the same clock. So, I'm thinking it's perhaps better if I just use

PXE boot, Kickstart NFS install and %include...
I was just wondering how (or indeed if) people use the %include directive in Kickstart configuration files when building systems via NFS. I've been trying to modularise our Kickstart files a little to make things more readable, having generic defaults and role specific stuff split out into separate configs. I've tried this configuration... [root at archive kickstart]# cat

Using centos and kickstart to build a minimum installation
Using centos 5.2, I want to use a kickstart file to select packages in order to have an unattended install onto a bare-metal server. Is there any way of finding out which packages I need to compile, build and run asterisk ? I generally want to build all modules in asterisk and the wct4xxp zaptel module I want to be able to not select any groups in the kickstart file, but only select

Kickstart issue: 'dialog' doesn't work in %post, CentOS 5.5
Hi, all. I'm trying to customize a CentOS installation cd, but got trouble with kickstart. I want to use dialog[1] for command line based user interface, but it can't display correctly in kickstart with CentOS 5.5. Same ks file works with CentOS 5.3 (both i386 and x86_64). What's the different between CentOS 5.3/5.5? I can't find it in release notes. And how can i fix it? Thanks

kickstart + domU for static IP
I've set up a local webserver to store kickstart files for domUs. All parameters are respected apart from the network settings. DomU always gets DHCP. Can any one help to unwrap this one? Does one add hostname, ip, netmask and gateway values to the /etc/xen/blah.cfg file? # ---- domU kickstart file ----# url --url http://192.168.1.120/centos/5/os/i386 lang en_US.UTF-8 keyboard uk network

Suggestions to improve this minimal kickstart config for CentOS 6?
I've come up with the following kickstart config (see below) for deploying a minimal CentOS 6 VM. It takes about 460MB. I'm assuming that all of the -firmware RPMs aren't needed for a VM installation, so I removed them. Also removed as many selinux packages as possible since I don't need that. I was wondering whether anyone could offer any further suggestions on minimizing

Kickstart Questions
Hi, We dont run DHCP in our environment where I build our servers, is it required to get a first IP address to hit my kickstart server running on my xandros debian laptop? Just been a couple years since I last did some kickstart builds and I dont have system-config-kickstart running on a machine here in my home lab. I can turn on DHCP on my linux laptop perhaps, but just wanted to check in

Centos 4 - text based install - LVM ?
Has anyone gotten this to work ? I can define a raid device but cant put a VG on it. I then tried 'autopartition' and it created an 'LVM' of sorts, when I tried to edit it I wasnt able to as a message appeared saying, LVM editing was not allowed in text mode. Any help ? Cheers, Brian. PS - PIII-500mhz 128mb RAM, 4mb AGP.

kickstart
Hello, I've been trying to kickstart a install centos from a USB memory stick. Everything with that is working fine, but I seem to be having a problem with the ks.cfg file. When I boot the install media from the usb drive, the the boot prompt I type linux ks=hd:/dev/uba1/ks.cfg Then I peek at the logs and it even says * getting kickstart file * getting kickstart file from harddrive *

environment variables in kickstart
I have been looking for environment variables for the %post section of kickstart. Namely if I start my kickstart command with "linux ks=http://serverip/ks.cfg" is there an environment variable that has serverip that I can use in the %post section? Also is there a way to pass a command line argument to the %post section when running kickstart command as the above
