[resend] USB drive fails at sector 0xFFFFFFF
I'm backing up to a NTFS partition on an external USB drive with dump. I'm seeing failures in /var/log/messages reading sector 0xFFFFFFF that cause the verify pass to fail. Are there any known problems in the USB driver? Kernel via uname -a: Linux segw2.mpa.lan 2.6.18-92.1.6.el5 #1 SMP Wed Jun 25 13:49:24 EDT 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux Message reported. dovecot fails to start at boot, but starts manually
dovecot-1.0-1.2.rc15.el5 on CentOS 5 I reboot the server and dovecot fails to start. But I can then issue "service dovecot start" and it starts up just fine. How to debug? I don't see anything in /var/log/messages nor /var/log/maillog. I did have to set SELinux to permissive (in /etc/selinux/config), as dovecot can't get at its SSL certs. I'm debugging that

how to get r-squared for a predefined curve or function with "other" data points
hello mailing list! i still consider myself an R beginner, so please bear with me if my questions seems strange. i'm in the field of biology, and have done consecutive hydraulic conductivity measurements in three parallels ("Sample"), resulting in three sets of conductivity values ("PLC" for percent loss of conductivity, relative to 100%) at multiple pressures

How to figure out underlying failed disk(parttions) and sector(s) position ???
Hi, with being exposed to more and more failed hard disks reports, I've accumulated several questions of the logged messages in /var/log/messages file: like how to identifying failed disks(partitions), where is the exact failed sector(s) on the hard disk, and why badblocks reports OK to the reported disk failure. Let me explained the above with the following several example. scenario #1, a

substitution of the ASCII character "squared" AKA "^2" AKA (alt+0178) with a tractable one
Deae R helpers, the problem I'm facing today is related to the manipulation of a string. The string is coming from a a porosimeter, whose control is under a complicate set-up of two computers One (running on DOS) is controlling directly the hardware, while the other (running on win XP) which process the data is connected to the first one via serial. I get the data from this last computer.

[Fwd: Re: Coefficients of Logistic Regression from bootstrap - how to get them?]
I think the argument supporting the use of bootstrap to determine coefficients, as opposed to just running linear regression on the whole dataset, is the comparison of Rsq and prediction errors between these two approaches - page 1502. There's a substantial difference in favor of the bootstrap approach. -- Michal J. Figurski Gustaf Rydevik wrote: > The url for the mentioned paper is

Is this ext3 or bad drive sectors problem?

rsync-3.0.8: problem with installing man pages when using seperate build dir
Hi all, there is a little problem when building rsync outside it's source dir with installing the man pages: they are not found and therefor not installed. The attached patch fixes this situation.
