Windows XP fixmbr from Centos?
I am still dead on my corporate system, and the XP boot CD I brought
won't boot. And so far I have not found anyone here at the IETF meeting
that happens to have one in their bag of tricks...
So I found instructions on doing this in Ubuntu:
http://www.arsgeek.com/2008/01/15/how-to-fix-your-windows-mbr-with-an-ubuntu-livecd/
I have my Centos install CD 1 of 6 that gets me into rescue.

syslinux tool for Win2k and 'safeboot' option
Hello
I think syslinux is great and just downloaded 2.00 and will start using it
in a couple of days.
1.
We use an IDE<->compactflash-adapter in our target-system. We use a
USB-compact-flash reader/writer(SanDisk/ImageMate) on our linux-host to
write the flash. It appears in the Linux-system as '/dev/sda', and we can
use syslinux and mount for copying kernel, syslinux.cfg and our

help with paste
Hello gurus,
I have some variables, and i am creating combinations for analysis in the
end i need these variables to be displayed like "LEPTIN+SAA+PTH". currently
i am using loop to perform this. I would appreciate any pointers to do it
without the loop.

api headers..
Hi Peter,
I just noticed your check-in of the api headers. Are you planning on
making the fat library also into an API? This would make things easier
for me for my safeboot module (redundant bootloader which i mailed you
about last week). I aleady moved some of the chainboot's partition
finding logic into outside files, so I can add that to the API as
well.
thanks,

C 7 installation annoyances
In the disk partitioner, I can't
1) choose to make the LVM with root and swap be on a RAID 1. Is there
some way to do that, rather than two separate partitions RAIDed?
2) They don't align, so I can't clone /dev/sda to /dev/sdb as a
failover (for /boot and /boot/efi). I've created those two, manually,
and nope, it wiped them out, so I can't clone

Dual-booting VMware and chainbooting GRUB
Dear All:
I am having trouble trying to dual-boot VMware and Linux, and I tried
everything I could come up with.
The situation is that /dev/sda is fully used by VMware and /dev/sdb
is used by Linux. VMware uses Syslinux, so I thought this would be
simple... However, it is not. The bootable FAT partition is too smal
to have kernels in it. As a fallback I tried to chain-load GRUB,
but that did not

loaded the grub loader onto the MBR i can not just go
and delete the Centos part since grub will still be in
the MBR

Re-doing the MBR
I tried to install CentOS 4.4. This was on a machine where I've got
Windows XP on the first partition (hda1).
CentOS, like most of the distros will automatically install Grub in
the MBR unless you tell it not to. In fact it will wipe the MBR first
pretty early in the install.
Here was my problem. During the install, the second CD had some sort
of read issue. So I had to abort the install

with Centos6 i cant Partition on 3TB Disks, problem
Hello List,
i try to install Centos 6 on a Server with 2x 3TB Disks.
When anaconda is showing up the disk partitioner i cant
do more then 3 "normal Partitions" or more then 3 "Raid Partitions".
Even when u choose that each partition is 200mb, u cant do more then
3 "normal" or "raid" partitions.
is this a bug of anaconda installer?
thanks

RDMA inline threshold?
Dear Dan,
thanks for the quick reply!
I actually tried restarting all processes (and even rebooting all servers), but the error persists. I can also confirm that all birck processes are running. My volume is a distrubute-only volume (not dispersed, no sharding).
I also tried mounting with use_readdirp=no, because the error seems to be connected to readdirp, but this option does not change

RDMA inline threshold?
Stefan,
Sounds like a brick process is not running. I have notice some strangeness
in my lab when using RDMA, I often have to forcibly restart the brick
process, often as in every single time I do a major operation, add a new
volume, remove a volume, stop a volume, etc.
gluster volume status <vol>
Does any of the self heal daemons show N/A? If that's the case, try forcing
a restart on

RDMA inline threshold?
Dear all,
I faced a problem with a glusterfs volume (pure distributed, _not_ dispersed) over RDMA transport. One user had a directory with a large number of files (50,000 files) and just doing an "ls" in this directory yields a "Transport endpoint not connected" error. The effect is, that "ls" only shows some files, but not all.
The respective log file shows this

Way to remove SYSLINUX?
Hi, i was installing syslinux to a usb drive when, through a typo('sda'
instead of of 'sdb'), accidently installed it to my windows partition, which
has made it unbootable, i tryed restoring the MBR with windows FDISK and
the /MBR option but while it overwrote grub it didn't do so for syslinux,
does anyone know how to remove syslinux from the partition?

4.6 update overwrote my /usr/lib/python2.3/site.py file
We had some custom additions to our site.py file for a third party
application. 'yum update' to 4.6 overwrote the file with no backup or
warning. Not hard to repair, but it did have me worried there for a
few minutes when the application failed to start.
Is this a python issue, an upstream issue or a CentOS issue? Can
something be done about it going forward?

Two Samba Servers and Rsync
Hi all,
I plan to implement two file servers on CentOS 6 i a two remote location.
i need to backup all data from second server on first. First server will be a
virtual machine on Esxi, and second server will be physical machine.
I plan to use rsync to sync data from second to first server. It is OK ?
Any suggestion ?
