Tomcat Monitoring
What do you use for monitoring your Apache Tomcat servers? I have used jconsole to manually connect and look at the statistics. I'm wondering if there are any standard tools for watching the health of the java process. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Analyzing java class loading with dtrace
Hi there, I am trying to diagnose a performance problem on a Sun T5120 running Solaris 10. I see general poor performance using Java and, in particular, loading classes. I have developed a simple java test that loads all of the classes in a Crystal Reports JAR file (around 7000 classes) which takes much longer on the T5120 (40 secs) than on a Core 2 Duo windows PC (5 secs). I recognise that this

java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space issue with Windows 2003 xVM domu with Tomcat
Hello All, One of our user is facing java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space issue on a Windows 2003 32 bit xVM domU with 4GB RAM. He is able to successfully do these tests on equivalent physical system with Windows 2003 OS and 4GB RAM. Another user is facing issues with Tomcat running out of heap space on a Win2008 64bit xvM domU Our xVM hypervisor server is X4150 server with 64GB RAM

AjpRails; Rails runner using AJP13
Hello, all. I released AjpRails 0.1.0. AjpRails is a script for running Ruby on Rails. Rails this script runs uses AJP13(Apache JServ Protocol 1.3) instead of CGI or FastCGI, to cooperate with your HTTPd. Its RubyForge project is: http://rubyforge.org/projects/ruby-ajp/ Project home page is: http://ruby-ajp.rubyforge.org/wiki/wiki.pl Now, AjpRails is slower and much more unstable than

can't get Tomcat5 to work on centos 5.1, how do I get it to work?
Hi all A client of ours wants Tomcat 5 to be installed on a CentOS 5 server, I naturally just ran "yum -y install tomcat5 tomcat5-webapps tomcat5-admin-webapps" which installed it without any errors. Then I typed in service tomcat5 start, and tries to access it as such "lynx http://localhost:8080/" but keep on getting an error "connection refused" [root at

RJava question(class not found with rJava's vm, though found with alternate vm)
Not sure if this the right place, but I can't seem to subscribe to the rJava mailing list. Sorry for the noise. I have a jar file in the CLASSPATH variable. On running .jinit and checking .jclassPath, i can see the jar file containing the class. Yet when trying to instantaite the class, i get a class not found error. Now If if, create my own vm (see below), and then run .jinit (which will

[LLVMdev] instruction description
Hi, I need the description of LLVM instructions on bitcode file. I can't find it on any document. Reading the code costs much time. Does a description like this exist ? It should look like the JVM Instruction set on the link bellow: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jvms/second_edition/html/Instructions2.doc.ht ml Thanks for any advise. Quang

[LLVMdev] Performance of JNI in VMKit
Dear developers, Are there any benchmarks for the performance of Java Native Interface (JNI) calls in VMKit? Since VMKit is based on LLVM which can also run C++ code (maybe in the same just-in-time compiler?) I guess calls from Java to C++ and back could be much faster than in Sun's JVM which has extremely slow C++ -> Java callbacks. If this was the case, this would be a big advantage of

USB2.0/Firewire Enclosure
I (work :) bought a USB2.0/Firewire enclosure and I had a little trouble with it until I came across this page http://people.freebsd.org/~maho/USB/comment/ku350a.txt after trying the sysctl things work well. I haven't tried the USB2.0 side of it, as I don't have any USB2.0 controllers. The Firewire bit works great too (quite a bit faster than USB1 :) The enclosure in question is made

Rails and JRuby
Has anyone attempted to run Rails inside of JRuby? Is that even possible? Aside from the performance implications, is it a bad idea? I''m thinking that it might be useful in very rare cases where a Ruby/Rails - equivalent of a Java solution may not exist yet. Any thoughts? Wes -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

[LLVMdev] Implementing try/catch/finally

CentOS server running java - won't let go of swap
I'm monitoring some CentOS 5 servers running Sun Java. We have set things up so 2048 MB of RAM are available for the base operating system, taking into account the xMx and permgen settings. What we're seeing is the swap space getting used up, and not released. Is this normal behavior? Performance doesn't seem to be affected, however I'm a bit concerned that the swap file is

[LLVMdev] Performance of JNI in VMKit
Hi Nicolas, thanks for your detailed answer! Now I understand the issues a little better. I'm going to install LLVM + Vmkit and try it out using JNI. Regarding the garbage collector, do you think that the Garbage Collection ABI of C++11 could be implemented in a way compatible to the JVM's garbage collector? http://www2.research.att.com/~bs/C++0xFAQ.html#gc-abi Perhaps this could make

Need help with awk one-liner
This awk command pulls URLs from an apache config file, where $x is the config filename. awk '/:8008\/root/ {printf $3 "\t"}' $x The URL that is output by the script looks something like this: ajpv12://hostname.network.company.com:8008/root Is there a way to alter the output so it only shows "hostname" by itself? Do I need to pipe this through awk again to clean it

Fwd: Merging jorbis upstream and the cortado jorbis fork back into one
Of interest to some on the list. Anyone familiar enough with Java to know how we go about detecting/using/incorporating an external Jorbis build into the Cortado jar ? Or are we supposed to download sources into our tree and build the whole ? ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Hans de Goede <hdegoede at redhat.com> Date: Thu, 04 Nov 2010 15:31:31 +0100 Subject: Merging jorbis

Certain scripts "hang" the terminal on logout
I have an init script that after running, causes my terminal not to log out cleanly. Here's what i mean: # /etc/init.d/script restart << this runs fine, returns my shell prompt # exit << When I enter this command, my shell window just stays "stuck" and actually won't close down. Anyone know why this happens?
