Multicolor main title in a plot or mtext
Dear R-users, the problem I'm facing today is to write a
multicolor main title in a plot.
I would like to have 3/4 colors to help people in the
audience to visually realize what is what in a 4x2 plot array
On top of each plot I would like to have two lines.
The 1st line will indicate what is plotted
The 2nd line will indicate a a reference
Graphically speaking I would like a result similar

y axix number into horizontal direction
Dear R users,
I used plot() and mtext() functions to draw a plot. The numbers: 0,20,35,
40,60,80,100 were in the vertical direction. I'd like to transfer them into
the horizontal direction.
plot(0,0,xaxt="n",type="n", ylim=c(0,100))
mtext("35",side=2,at=35)
Any suggestion?
Thanks.

cex= and plot(), title(), mtext()
using R 1.2.1 under LinuxPPC, using the default X11 graphics device, i
can't get the cex= argument for plot() and title() to have any effect.
works for text(), though. the text size for plot() and title() _is_
correct if par(cex=size) is called first. oddly, mtext() seems to pay
attention to cex=, but to ignore the value set by par().
for example,

multi-panel figure: overall title for each row
Dear all,
I have a 3x2 plot and in addition to the title of the individual plots I
would like to have an overall title
for each row. I managed to get an overall title for the whole plot matrix
with mtext:
par(mfrow=(c(3,2)), mar=c(6.4,4.5,4.2, 1.8), oma=c(0,0,3,0))
for (i in 1:6)
barplot(sample(1:10,5), main=paste("Plot #",i))
mtext("Overall Title Row 1", outer=TRUE)

help with the use of mtext to create main title over multiple plots
I'm trying to use mtext to create a main title over multiple plots. Below is
a simple self-contained example and my sessionInfo (I should note I've also
tried this with R-2.8.1 with the same results). When I execute the code
chunk below, I get the plots, but no title. I've tried this using the screen
driver, pdf, and postscript. I've used different sizes of paper. I suspect I

Figure title
Hi,
I created several figures and their titles should appear like this:
Figure 1: Monte Carlo results for alternative estimators of structural
parameters (N = 100, T = 5)
Because N and T change across figures, my code includes the following lines:
N.set <- 100
T.set <- 5
mtext(“Figure 1: Monte Carlo results for alternative estimators of

Positioning main title
Hello,
I have a barplot where each row has quite long texts and I have used "par"
to make some room in the left:
par(mar=c(0, 17, 3, 0), oma=c(0, 0, 0, 0))
barplot2(prueba, main = l, col=colores, horiz=TRUE,las=1, cex.names=.7)
My problem is that main text appears justified to the plot. I want to put it
in the middle of the image, and find a way to sort it out with mtex
par(mar=c(0,

Multiple levelplot with title
Hi all,
I'm new to R and to the mailing list, so please bear with me :-)
I would like to create multiple levelplots on the same chart with a nice
main title with something like this:
print(levelplot(matrix(c(1,2,3,4), 2, 2)), split=c(1, 1, 2, 1))
print(levelplot(matrix(c(1,2,3,4), 2, 2)), split=c(2, 1, 2, 1),
newpage=FALSE)
I found a trick:

HOW TO REMOVE MTEXT FROM PLOT, plotting changing populations with titles in loop
is there a way to hide/undraw mtext (or lines etc.) in a loop like
plot(runif(10))
iterCol <- rainbowPalette(10)
for(i in 1:10){
mtext(paste("this is iteration ", i, sep=""))
points(runif(10),col=iterCol[i])
Sys.sleep(1)
## UNDRAW/HIDE the text so that it does not mess up the plot in the next
iteration

plot - no main title and missing abscissa value
Hi all.
I have defined a plot thus:
par(mar=c(5,5,4,5),las=1, xpd=NA)
plot(Day, Ym1Imp, ylim=c(0,100), type="b", bty="l", main="Ym1

axis(side=1, at=c(0,1,3,5,7,10,14,21), labels=c(0,1,3,5,7,10,14,21)) #
label x axis

Trying to get values to display on horizontal barchart
Hello,
R 2.3.0
Windows XP
I have spent quite a bit of time trying to resolve my problem below, which included a R site search.
The "vertical bars" syntax below produces a vertical bar chart with the values displayed above each bar. I want to cast this graphic horizontally, but I have not been able to arrive at a suitable outcome. The best I have been able to do, using the second block

Superscript/Subscript in main title
I have been trying to figure out how to get superscript/subscript in the
main title for a plot. I have tried various approaches and suggestions but
none of them work. I am trying to get the following as the main title of my
plot:
Emission of CO2 with time
(but note that 2 is subscript.)
I have tried
plot(main="Emission of C"expression(O[2]) "with time")

Impact of cex changing as a function of mfrow
R 2.15.1
OS X (MLion)
Colleagues,
I am aware that changes in mfrow / mfcol in par() affect cex (from help: In a layout with exactly two rows and columns the base value of ?"cex"? is reduced by a factor of 0.83: if there are three or more of either rows or columns, the reduction factor is 0.66).
I generate a multipage PDF in which mfrow varies such that cex is impacted. This affect

I have an array of plots and I would like to put a title on the whole array.
Hi, all,
Does anyone know of a way to get a title on an array of plots? I have
tried to use title, mtext, and text to get the title on the array, but
to no avail. I would like something like the following.
title("Big Array")
par(mfrow=c(2,4))
plot(x1,y1)
plot(x2,y2)

Much appreciated,

par(las=.) gives wrong "adj" for mtext() (PR#726)
For R Version 1.1.1 and R-devel (Linux)...
Sorry, there's no time to fix myself now
{e.g., after starting a new device} :
par(las=3); plot(1:10); par(las=1) ; mtext("mtext")
Gives a left-adjusted (as for adj = 0) mtext,
even if par("adj") is still 0.5
Note that I'm also not convinced that mtext() should follow par("las")
as it does in the

Batch mode problem: figure margins too large (code corrected for word wrap)
First of all, I apologize for the triple post, but I did not see that the
word wrap on the r-help list site would render my code unusable. So here it
is again. Hoping that this time it will work if you cut and paste it in
your Rgui.
I have a program that works well in Rgui but that does not work in a batch
file (Execution halted).
Here's the code (it will work on your R, but you need

size of graphs when using multiple figures by row
Hi all,
I have a basic question concerning graphs in R. I?m using the par()
function and I?m working with multiple figures by row (mfrow) but my the
hight of my figures become compressed. I have 4 rows and 2 columns (because
I want to plot 8 histograms (freq = FALSE ) on it. I know I can adapt my
margins with for example ?oma? and ?mai? but I don?t know how to choose the
size of the figure? I
