TIP for broken ARIN whois
This works for me on Centos 5.6. It may assist newcomers to the Linux world of Centos. whois 51.51.51.51 produces a normal and conventional display of data. However since ARIN, the North American registrar of IP addresses, "modernised" its WHOIS processing, a query to whois 64.64.64.64 will produce a one line summary of possible matches, which always includes ARIN, but omits the

SIP invite timeouts : how is someone sending invites from our server ??
I've been getting a lot of timeouts on non-critical invite transactions. I turned on sip debug. They were the result of SIP invites like this: Retransmitting #10 (NAT) to 185.107.94.10:13057: SIP/2.0 401 Unauthorized Via: SIP/2.0/UDP 215.45.145.211:5060;branch=z9hG4bK-524287-1---zg4cfkl50hpwpv4p;received=185.107.94.10;rport=13057 From:

sedwards@sedwards.com causes me to be knocked off the list
Someone on this list uses the address @sedwards.com I doubt this is their actual email address as there is no MX record for sedwards.com and I can't find registration for their domain either. Part of my mail servers reject these emails because they cannot be replied to, or are likely to be spam. Every so often I get a mail from the list management to say that I've been unsubscribed

Netfilter fails to filter traffic from a netblock?
Hi Everyone, We rent a CentOS 7 VM from GoDaddy. We received a warning about excessive cpu usage, and a threat to cancel our service. We tracked it down to Apache and someone hammering our web server. The offending host is 59.64.129.175. To err on the side of caution we attempted to block the entire netblock. According to whois data, that's 59.64.128.0-59.64.159.255. iptables -A INPUT

PMA attacks
It appears to be a low-level attack, not so frequent as to be banned permanently, just a number of times a day. I did google on this, and I gather it's looking for phpmyadmin. We've been getting one from one specific network in Russia for weeks Here are more information about 91.201.64.24: [Querying whois.ripe.net] [whois.ripe.net] <snip> % Information related to '91.201.64.0

Linux HA may not be the best choice in yoursituation. High Availability using 2 sites
In a nutshell and very first of all, you need at least 2 internet connections. Those ISP must be willing to setup BGP peering between your routers and theirs. Once that agreement has been made, you need to get their AS Numbers and submit the ASN request located on ARIN's website (http://www.arin.net). After some paperwork and money exchanges, ARIN assigns you an AS number. At that point,

Using R in a university course: dealing with proposal comments
Hi All, I am scheduled to teach a graduate course on research methods in health sciences at a university. While drafting the course proposal, I decided to include a brief introduction to R, primarily with an objective to enable the students to do data analysis using R. It is expected that enrolled students of this course have all at least a formal first level introduction to quantitative methods

How to select specific rows from a data frame based on values
Dear Group: I am working with a data frame containing 316 rows of individuals with 79 variables. Each of these 79 variables have values that range between -4 to +4, and I want to subset this data frame so that in the resulting new dataframe, values of _all_ of these variables should range between -3 and +3. Let's say I have the following dataframe (it's a toy example with 4 individuals
