Recommendation On Ping And Alert Tool
A bit off topic, but I keep looking for an answer to this question and coming up with nothing... so I thought I would go to the gurus. :-) Can anyone recommend a good package for pinging other devices and sending an email/alert when they go down? I'm aware of all kinds of more complex things with GUIs and a zillion other bells and whistles we aren't looking for, but we just want a simple

How to monitor non-SNMP SIP devices ?
Hi, I'm seeing a trend in which SIP devices such as Yealink SIP phones (with v72 firmware), are dropping support of SNMP in favor of "HTTP eventing" if may call this as such : when configuring the SIP device, you can define a couple of HTTP URL which triggered when some event occur (end of boot, on hook, ...). How do deal with those devices ? Do you still try to monitor them with

Detecting DoS attacks via SIP
Hi all, Lately, I've seen an increase in the number of attacks against my system from the so-called "Friendly Scanner." When one of these script kiddies targets my server, all I see for symptoms is a few of my trunks become lagged due to server load and a stream of messages on the console that resemble this: [Aug 2 20:27:50] == Using SIP VIDEO CoS mark 6 [Aug 2 20:27:50] ==

NMS Opinions
A recent post that mentioned Zabbix inspired me to have a look at them again while I was waiting on something as it?s been a while since I looked at them. Currently, I was using Nagios but had to start using Munin to add some functionality I needed and don?t want to continue down this road of supporting umpteen different packages. Between Zabbix, Pandora and HyperIQ, what would anyone familiar

Migrating away from Nagios
I have to rebuild a new Nagios box and thought this might be a good time to migrate away. I use snmp mostly for everything but with the fork Nagios endured I wonder about putting any more effort into the project. I probably should look at OpenNMS again, but the other options I think might work are Icinga (Should be trivial to migrate) or Zenoss or maybe even Zabbix? Anyone have experience in

Server-side scripting when SIP phones register
Hi, Some IP Phones (Aastra) are able to send a custom HTTP request just after registration completion. Using this, it is possible to update phone's screen with messages like "Do Not Disturb" or "Forwarded To VM". RFC 3680 (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc3680.html) provides a mecanism to support these interactions. To my knowledge, this RFC is not implemented yet in

PJSIP some AMI events is absent?
Hello. Asterisk 13.2, PJSIP. Problem: I do not get any AMI events when changing the status of the contact. When using chan_sip I got "peerstatus" event. When using res_pjsip and devices (endpoint configuration) I got "peerstatus" event. When using res_pjsip.so and OUTBOUND REGISTRATION WITH OUTBOUND AUTHENTICATION i got "registry" event. When using

Add general UPS SNMP agent as a nut client
Hi One idea I've had for some time, but unfortunately not had time to implement, is to add a general SNMP agent, which will work with all UPSes supported by nut. The idea is to have the SNMP agent use the "nut API" to fetch values from the UPS. So the SNMP agent will be similar to the "upsc" utility. Whenever the SNMP agent is queried for information, it will use the

Monitor Network Traffic
What is the best way to monitor the total incoming / outcoming network traffic of CentOS server. I think that the solution is to monitor the network interfaces and to send SNMP packets to remote server. But is it possible? regards -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Detecting DoS attacks via SIP
Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but I would say this conversation you have posted is a bit outdated, now fail2ban can be used with asterisk security log https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/Asterisk+Security+Event+Logger. snmp on centos 3.x x86_64
I'm trying to use opennms to collect data from some CentOS3.x x86_64 boxes but I am getting an error "Integer too large: cannot decode" that http://bugzilla.opennms.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1316 says is a bug in net-snmp that was fixed in a later version. However, when I try to build the 5.4.1 src.rpm from sourceforge I get "/usr/lib/libpopt.so: could not read

Somewhat OT:
Hi, I'm looking for a monitoring system that support snmp v3. I want to monitorize linux servers and network switches. Currently, I am trying to use zabbix, but sadly, it lack at present features that I need. For example, I want to get reporting screens with data and graphs from network switches, I'd like to configure one only port of a given switch and that is used as templates for the

AMI getting related channels in Ringing state
Issuing the AMI Status command results in a list of active channels. But how to figure out which channels are related before the call is answered? 2 channels below are somehow associated, but how can I be 100% sure they are related in order to implement a redirect of the incoming call to another phone ("attended" call pickup respecting call/pickupgroups). network mapping software
Hi all, I'm looking for network mapping software that would walk the local subnet and using snmp/cdp/nmap & friends produce a picture of network connections for documentation purposes. I've seen some for wintendo, but haven't found any decent for linux and CentOS specifically. Something like cheops-ng.sf.net would fill my needs, but before I start a fight with 5+ years old code

Monitoring services
What's available to remotely monitor services? What I'd like is something that can run scripts for each service to connect to a port and verify that it's up, and then send me an SMS message (phone text) to let me know which, if any, are down. Also, does a script exist that checks all the services listed by chkconfig and reports those that should be up but are down?
