IAX or SIP - connecting two Asterisk servers together
Hello Folks;
Again, excuse my cluelessness.
I have an Asterisk server in the US - and I want to connect it to one in
Europe.
Here is my scenario:
1. call a phone number, my Asterisk box in the US answers
2. perhaps a 'please wait' voice message
3. it dials an extension on the other Asterisk box in Europe.
I am not looking for someone to do this for me, I am just not really

Firewalling and Asterisk
Forgive my ignorance on this as I am still fairly new to Asterisk.
I have noticed lately that there have been several attempts to hack our
Asterisk server. I see multiple attempts to log in with a particular
extension from the same IP address, perhaps hundreds of times per
second. It causes the overhead to spike to ~100%. It is more of a pain
in the ass than anything.
So far what I have been

Call recording - methodology
Hello Everyone;
I am looking for a solution to record calls that come into our Asterisk
server. I am hoping for something that is easy to use - however, if I
have to modify it to make it easier to use, I do not mind.
Does anyone know of any opensource or otherwise solutions out there that
I can try out?
Thanks much.

Using MixMonitor()
Hello Folks;
I appreciate all of the help so far - thanks.
Another question: I am using MixMonitor() to record calls and I would
like to include the called number/extension in the filename:
In my dialplan, I am able to save the file with the caller id in the
filename. However, what I am a little unsure about is the incoming
number/called number/extension - passing that information on to part

Asterisk GUI - the one from Diguim/Asterisk - issues on Asterisk 1.6x
Hello Folks;
Perhaps I am chasing my tail here.
Before I go any further, is this compatible/supported in Asterisk 1.6x?
If so, I would be willing to post any manager.conf or http.conf snippets
needed.
When I attempt to open the Asterisk Web GUI, I get a 'page not found'.
I am sure this is something really minor - something silly that I missed.
Any words of wisdom?

One way voice with Asterisk
Let me explain:
When I dial into Asterisk ( I have a SIP trunk - which I need to make
sure is not faulty), I only get one-way voice communication.
The calling party, from the SIP trunk hears nothing - the extension
rings on the Asterisk server (you can see it in the CLI and hear it at
the computer), and the softphone rings
However, when you answer the SIP softphone , you can only hear the

Actual complaining: nixspam
John accused me of complaining about systemd... this here's *real*
complaining.
Several times every month, my email starts getting bounced by freakin'
nixspam, because my giant hosting provider, that hosts millions of
domains. Akemi has argued that nixspam works just fine (if so, then why
did we get that spam a few weeks ago?).
I've politely requested being put on a whitelist, and

Win2k, rsync, and ssh on cygwin
Hi,
The subject line pretty much says it all. Oh, that plus I'm tearing my
hair out trying to get it all to play nice together.
rsync version = 2.5.5 protocol version 26
OpenSSH_3.5p1, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090608f
cygwin -- downloaded in the last 3 days from official mirrors.
I'm trying to make one Win2k box rsync with another Win2k box. I managed
to get it such that an

sip show channelstats reliable?
I am seeing lots of lost packets when running the command sip show channelstats at the CLI.
There are issues across multiple Asterisk servers I am trying to diagnose but everything I read seems to point to this command being pretty unreliable.
Can I trust the info this command shows?
I am showing lots of lost packets in sip show channelstats but I can't see any packet loss when pinging the

Call Recording using MixMonitor - close, but would like some more words of wisdom.
Dan et al;
This looks like a perfect solution.
However, I have one issue. If I initiate the macro manually (put it in
the proper context/dialplan) it works. I see the *.wav file being
created and growing in the /var/spool/asterisk/monitor directory.
If I try to implement it adding the MixMonApp =>
*1,self/both,Macro,mixmon to the [applicationmap] in features.conf, I
cannot get it to

extensions.conf sorting
<http://voip-info.org/tiki-index.php?page=Asterisk%20config%20extensions.conf%20sorting>
This page on voip-info.org describes how it is possible to affect the sort
order of patterns in extensions.conf. What is doesn't explain is how
asterisk really does sort patterns. How does this happen?

CentOS 7, systemd, NetworkMangler, oh, my
Too much temptation to resist, I don't know which one of us is older but I have a feeling it's a "horse race". Like you, I still have a land line, WiFi is too slow and "WiFi security" seems to be an oxymoronic phrase. Why people text (or IM for that matter) anything other than a one-liner is beyond me.
Now for the real issue, what happens when Network Manager

Samba User Nightmare
Hey, I need help! (I'm kinda new to this.),
This past weekend I switched over our server at work from a MS NT 4.0
server to a Red Hat Linux version 9 server.
I had to set up several network shares via Samba. For testing purposes I
set up a former employee's account on the new server. This account would
enable me to communicate with the old server and the new to copy over
files. All the

Cannot remount drive after lost iSCSI connection
Hi all,
We've having an issue at the moment where an iSCSI connection was
temporarily lost on a few VMs running CentOS 6 on ESXi.
The problem is, now that the iSCSI connection has returned, we are not able
to remount the drive.
At first the drive is read-only, so I tried '*mount -o remount,rw*' which
didn't work (still read-only), so then I tried a '*umount*' (which

sip show channelstats reliable?
I've seen something similar with Adtran SIP gateways. When a re-invite happens the Adtran gets all confused about call stats and marks the pre-reinvite leg of the call as losing large numbers of packets. BTW, IIRC reinvites happen when a codec changes or the channel switches to T.38.
Also Adtran SIP gateways appear not to support OPTIONS packets when running in SIP proxy mode, which is

AGI - Freakin Lost
Ok,
I have spent that past 4 - 5hrs working (trying to) figure some AGI
syntax out in perl. Maybe I'm Looney / slow or what I don't know, but I
am lost. I need to figure out how to send STDIN into the script. I
understand the concept of it, but lost when it comes down to it. No
matter what I try with standard <stdin> The app completes on me before I
can ever enter in keys. I

Can you apply effects to elements create in same RJS file?
I am trying to create a new element in a list and highlight it.
I am doing the following in my rjs file:
page.insert_html :after, ''bananalist_header'', :partial => ''banana''
page.visual_effect :highlight, "banana#{banana.id}", :duration => 1
The first line creates a new element with the id= ''banana3'' say...

Wayland Display Support in R Plot
Hello,
I'm interested in understanding the current state of Wayland display support in R plot, and I was wondering if any progress or discussions have taken place regarding this matter.
As Wayland continues to gain popularity as a display protocol on modern Linux systems, having Wayland support for R's plotting capabilities would be a significant enhancement.
Could anyone provide

Netware CIFS nlm - linux samba
Dear Gurus,
We're having bizarre problems/behaviour. Admittedly we have an unusual
set-up:
- users on linux desktops (RedHat/KDE) mounting files over SMB using
samba-2.2.5-10 -client and -common rpms.
- files are on a SAN, clustered behind 2 netware servers (6.5), wihch run the
cifs.nlm (netware guy has gone home - can't tell you the version just now)
Files are spontaneously
