Samba AD not resolving external names
I have just set up a new AD and am having a little success with it, but DNS
resolution is a little slow.
I'm looking into why that is and tried an ns lookup for google.com and got
the answer SERVFAIL on my AD server.
The query was then passed to my next nameserver (google's own dns), which
handled the query.
Is this correct behaviour? I've not seen SERVFAIL before

OT: reverse DNS error for lists.digium.com
Hello,
sorry for beeing off-topic here. But can anyone confirm that
there is a problem reverse resolving lists.digium.com (216.207.245.17) ?
Because of this problem, my mail server will not accept mails from
lists.digium.com (it is configured to accept valid DNS only).

Hi,
I have set up Samba-3.0.11 to retrive account information from W2k

But is takes about 10 sec. to retrive the information.
I have dumped some traffic from the request, and it looks like this:

Could not resolve host: mirror.centos.org
There seems to be a problem with my local dns server resolving
mirror.centos.org.
I know something about dns but obviously not enough to figure out what
might be wrong here or how to fix
this in bind configs. The SERVFAIL errors below seem to be related to
AAAA and MX queries for the domain.
Please advise. TIA.

SERVFAIL <=> NXDOMAIN
Hello,
we encountered a problem with registry nic.at for tld .at and their
transaction "BillWithDraw". This transaction allows an registrar to
delegate authority back to registry.
For a successful use of this transaction all nameserver-entries for the
zone will be deleted by our application before nic-order will be sent to
nic.at.

DNS help: "unexpected rcode (SERVFAIL)"??
Recently I'm getting these errors on my slave when adding new domains:

The master/slave transfers work for the other 1000+ domains that I have,

Make new server the "master"
Thank you everyone for your help. I corrected my resolv.conf files as Peter
Milesson suggested and then had to take a number of extra steps so now
things are looking a little better. In case it helps anyone else in the
future, here's what I found (plus I am now having problems resolving
internal addresses).
As far as I can see, the setup on both servers is identical (except they

Internal DNS strangeness in 4.1.16
Hi,
? I have just provisioned a new samba setup with 2 DCs running ISC DHCPd in failover and I?m trying to get it to play nice with samba internal DNS but I?m having some issues.
1) I?m using on commit, etc triggers in the dhcpd config to call a script that calls samba-tool to add, delete or update DNS. This script works fine when I call it from the command line as the dhcpd user but when called

disabling lame server logging
Continuing to 'clean up' my new server by reviewing logged messages.
Researching a common one:
Feb 26 07:30:29 onlo named[19336]: error (unexpected RCODE SERVFAIL)
resolving 'foo.com/MX/IN': 1.2.3.4#53
I get the drift that my server has been directed to a 'lame server' and
logs that fact. Supposedly I am to lookup the SOA record and contact
the admin to fix this.

(S4) Neither AXFR nor authoritative nameserving available?
Hello all,
I'd like to have redundant DNS in our setup. But it seems that Samba 4
does not yet support AXFR with its internal DNS server. Alright, that's
fine, so I figured I'd configure the system such that at the very least,
a caching nameserver was sitting in front of it. However, that doesn't
work; the caching nameserver (BIND 9) returns SERVFAIL, apparently
because

DNS caching is not working on CentOS
Hi All:
For whatever reason I can not get dns caching to work on any of my
centos boxes. Running Centos 5 and 6. Any thoughts on why these will
not run? The services start fine but when telling to perform a dig
using itself as the resolver the queries fail (See below).
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ed

Zaptel/DAHDI ztdummy only
Let me know if I should post this on the asterisk-dev list instead.
I am building a Linux-Vserver (http://www.linux-vserver.org) host system
that will have several guests running Asterisk. Since the guests can't
load kernel modules or do other dangerous stuff, but can access them I
built zaptel 1.4 and it is now loaded by the host.
The issue I see is there will be no "Zaptel"

Please help with Samba AD DC after restore from backup
I just did a restore of a backed up Samba DC and as feared, I'm running
into issues that have kept me for hours on this already.
Everything seems fine at first sight. The daemon (samba-ad-dc, 4.10, on
Ubuntu Bionic) starts properly and without error messages in any log, even
with increased level 3. Most of the typical testing and troubleshooting
commands give the correct output.
