1 Gbit/s Ethernet NIC under CentOS
Hello listmates, As some of you may know we have been having a really bad problem with Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8169 cards. See here for details: http://forum.nginx.org/read.php?24,140124,140224 So now my question is, what PCI 1 Gbit/s Ethernet adapters should I use under CentOS? If you have had a consistent positive experience with any particular chipset/brand please speak up.

New hardware
Hi! I want to upgrade hardware on my router (iptables, htb, >1000 users). Now it is based on usual desktop PC (Intel Prescott P4 3.00 Ghz, 1 Gb RAM). The reason of hardware upgrade is growing up number of users, also we are planning to increase upstream link from 100 Mbit/s to 1 Gbit/s. Iptables rules are now optimized with ipset tool, for tc I''m using hash tables as well. So I

Samba Performance for Digital Recording
Hello, We are doing digital recording over a 100 Mb/s switched network to a dedicated Samba NAS-Filer and need to optimize our workflow and present some performance data. I just want to be sure, to not overlook some important aspect in my experimental setup. Let me explain in short what is our infrastructure: The Swiss Library for the Blind has started producing Digital Talking Books (see

Performance Issues with GBit LAN
Hi. I have 2 PC's connected with 1GBit NIC's. When I transfer a file from my File-Server(Redhat9.0, 256 SD-RAM, 300MHz PII, RTL8169 NIC, 2x Western Digital WD200JB RAID 0) to my Windows-PC(AMD Athlon XP 1800+, 1024 MB DDR-RAM, WINXP PRO, RTL8169 NIC, 2x Western Digital WD080JB RAID 0) with Samba, i get Speeds around 8-9MB/sec. I think this is too low for an GBit Network, so i tested the

Performance issue with Vista
Hi, I tested a little bit Samba with Windows vista and found serious performance issue regarding reading large files from Samba server. Computers that I tested Samba with were all identical computers equipped with 2,8 GHz Pentium D processors, 1 GB memory and 1 Gbit/s LAN. All computers have only external USB hard drives so that it is easier to change from operating system to another. First I

Asterisk hardware for new office suggestion
Hi list, I am in the process of setting up Asterisk for a new office and since this is going to be my first "real" installation I'd appreciate some advice on the hardware from the real world. We will have 8 channels (still not sure if 4xISDN2 or ISDN30 8 channels, but I will definitely go for a Digium card with echo hw cancelation) and a DSL 2mbit line (QoS on the switch and

Horrible write performance from XP to Samba
I noted an extremely poor performance when copying big files from a windows xp client to a samba share. The exact version of samba does not seem to matter: I tried several different samba servers with versions between 3.014 and 3.0.23b running on Linux 2.4.32 and 2.6.17 (machines and network otherwise idle, clients connected via fast ethernet, servers via Gbit; network performance in both

VLANs with Xen - work with 1 Gbit, doesn''t with 100 Mbit cards?
I have a strange problem with VLANs with Xen 3.0.4. I signalled it on Xen-users list, but found no definitive solution to it. I configure VLANs so that they are available in dom0; domUs don''t know that they use VLANs. I use a stock "network-bridge" comming from Xen for setting up networking: #!/bin/bash dir=$(dirname "$0") "$dir/network-bridge"

ztdummy/rtc
Hello, Maybe I'm missing something here. What is the proper way to use RTC with ztdummy now? I'm using -HEAD from a day or two ago on Linux 2.6.11.11. In zaptel/Makefile, I changed CFLAGS to: CFLAGS+=-I. -O4 -g -Wall -DBUILDING_TONEZONE -DUSE_RTC #-DTONEZONE_DRIVER and I get.. make -C /lib/modules/2.6.11.11/build SUBDIRS=/usr/src/zaptel modules make[1]: Entering directory

Xen RTC emulation
Hello, In what we believe is now the final regression discovered when upgrading XenServer from Xen 4.1 to 4.3, there is an issue with RTC emulation. Win2003 SP2 is a WAET unaware operating system, whose RTC access pattern triggers Xen''s rtc_mode_no_ack logic. The result is that the domain falls into a tight loop reading RTC RegC, whoes value is always 0xc0. I have confirmed that

Linux router performance
Hi, I wonder about the performance of a Linux box used as router (I guest I''m not the first :). Althought I know it mainly depends on the hardware, I''m trying to find some references on the topic or comparations with other routing solutions (FreeBSD box used as router, Cisco, etc). For example, http://facweb.cti.depaul.edu/jyu/Publications/Yu-Linux-TSM2004.pdf (althought is

Speed issue in only one direction
Hi all, I'm back again with my speed issues. The past issues where dependant of network I used. Now I run my tests in a lab, with 2 configurations linked by a Gigabit switch : node1: Intel Core i5-2400 with Debian 7.2 node2: Intel Core i5-3570 with Debian 7.2 Both have AES and PCLMULQDQ announced in /proc/cpuinfo. I use Tinc 1.1 from Git. When I run an iperf test from node2 (client) to

RTC Client (maybe VAD related)
Greetings, I'm trying to create a server-based SIP chatroom (using MeetMe w/ ztdummy), where the clients will be mainly connecting with MS RTC Clients. I got the authentication working, but am having a problem where I can only hear audio when I am also making noise into the microphone. This appears to be the VAD/MOH problem mentioned on this list before.

[PATCH] [Xen-API] Patch for fixing the rtc/timeoffset entry
This patch rewrites the rtc/timeoffset entry so the VM''s record can be retrieved with the Java xmlrpc library. If the entry is ''None'' it upsets the xmlrpc parser. This fixes it, though maybe there''s a better place in xend to place similar code. Signed-off-by: Stefan Berger <stefanb@us.ibm.com> _______________________________________________ Xen-devel

Problem in linux domU re: /dev/rtc and hwclock
Hi all, One of our domU VMs (CentOS 5.6 x86_64) runs a cobol application, which in turn called ''clock'' to get timestamps. Changing this is non-trivial. When I try to call ''clock --debug'' I get: [root@vm0010 ~]# clock --debug hwclock from util-linux-2.13-pre7 hwclock: Open of /dev/rtc failed, errno=19: No such device. No usable clock interface found.

OpenVPN throughput
Hello listmates, We are working on setting up two private networks linked by a public network which is fast (1 Gbit/s) but potentially insecure. Since the hosts on our two networks need to talk to each other, and do so securely, we have decided to use OpenVPN to connect them, making one gateway a server and the other a client. The connectivity part was easy to establish and worked like a charm.
