On Topic: Cheapest Asterisk USB Key? (was: Re: Off Topic: Open Source USB Softphone)
Here's a flipside of this subject: what is the absolute cheapest Linux device that can be connected to a PC's USB port? That has just enough power for a minimal Asterisk server running on it. The Asterisk just maintains a CDR database on its Flash memory, which it periodically submits over the PC's network connection with an HTTP hit on a remote full-service Asterisk server? No call

weird 185 secs timeout call problem
On our tests using asterisk, some calls have been terminated abruptely with exact 185 seconds. This is happening with all our incoming calls from a trunk from 1 of my DID providers ( other providers or trunks are fine) and I could reproduce it by calling a queue from my Wengophone Softphone and letting the MoH play for 185 secs. If I make the same call from my WRTP54G on the same place,

Asterisk & wengophone
Hi I use Asterisk with some SIP phone (grandstrea), while with my notebook when I'm out of home/office I use X-lite and all work. Some days ago I try to install wengophone and I decided that I want replace X-lite for use wengophone as client for my Asterisk. One of the reasons is that wengophone support g729 codec. I make some test and I see that is possible to configure other sip server

Errors: Too many SIP headers and Unknown SDP media type in offer: video 10702 RTP/AVP 34 31
Dear all, I have Asterisk 1.2.13 running OK with Twinkle clients, they can talk very well using SIP. I have a Jabber server running OK and the clients use PSI client for chat succesfully. Now I'm using Wengophone 2.1.1 in order to unify voip+IM services. The users can logon OK in SIP and Jabber, they get the online status presence, but they CAN'T talk and chat among them.

Stereo Conferences?
Are there any speakerphones or other conferencing HW phones that play the audio in stereo? Either their own speakers, or jacks for an amp with room speakers? Is there any way for Asterisk to deliver call legs with stereo channels in the RTP stream? If not, is it possible for Asterisk to keep 2 separate calls, or pairs of legs in a conference call, synced exactly enough (including traveling over

Any free video (or audio) softphone VOIP client under Linux with touchscreen friendly interface ?
Hi, I'm curious if anyone knows of any possibility to use video VOIP client (like Ekiga or Linphone or...) under Linux that could be operated by touchscreen friendly GUI (bigger buttons, large keypad, etc...) ? I like Ekiga, but GUI is small and cannot be operated via touchscreen... But maybe there are some skins for existing clients that are more touchscreen friendly ? Thanks in

Replacing Skype with Asterisk Peering Servers - and Security
Hi, I have successfully configured two OpenBSD ( 4.2 & 4.0 ) Servers to do IXA2 peering on two remote Sites. Now asterisk users on Site1 can talk to users on Site2. I just would like to know the following details. 1) Currently I have allowed all in coming traffic from "Site1 Public IP Address" on Site2 Server and vice versa. Is that really required? Is it possible to narrow down

Converting asterisk h264 recordings
Hello, We are setting up an asterisk system for voicemail with video possibilities. We are not using the voicemail app, but rather writing our own dialplan logic. The part of recording, and replaying, the voicemail works, and we receive both an h264 and an wav-file. What I now wonder is how to convert these into one file playable by a (standard) media player. I have not found any real good

Dialout Conferences?
How do I set up an existing call to dial out to a new terminal which is included in a conference with the two existing legs of the call? When the dialplan executes the Dial(<terminal>) command, control does not return to the dialplan until the terminal disconnects, after which it's obviously too late to conference it. Is there a conference command or option that lets the dialplan dial

text2wave Voices Improvements?
I currently have an AGI that calls the Festival text2wave app to write a wav file that my dialplan plays into a call with the Background() command. But the voice sounds terrible: like SAM, the 1980s 6502 voice synthesizer. I tried to slow it down by calling (text2wav -eval "(Parameter.set 'Duration_Stretch 1.4)" -scale 2.0 [...]), but it still sounds like it's talking while

7970 CTLFile.tlv?
I've got a Cisco 7970 that's not completing its network registration to Asterisk. The "Registering" message stays on the screen (with the moving time wheel). After a few minutes, the onscreen message flashes "Updating CTL" then "Loading...", then the status messages update with: No valid CAPF server File Not Found: CTLFile.tlv No CTL installed

Multi-calendar Overlay Layers?
Is there any calendar client that can point at OX for calendar data, which client can display multiple calendars simultaneously as *overlapping layers* in the GUI? With UI to de/select calendars from view, one by one. That is, a single grid of days displayed, with the events in each day displayed in the same day's view list, as if the layers were all events in a single calendar. And is there

Cisco 79xx XML Apps (was: Re: Cisco Directory Format)
Do you know where to find clear developers' guides (with some examples) for developing apps that run *on* Cisco 79xx phones (especially the 7970)? Examples that can run against Asterisk (not CallManager) with SIP firmware (not SCCP), and/or LDAP directories (or other open servers) would be best. Does anyone know of an IAX softphone in Java, whether applet or application? Even the most minimum featureset, just voice and dialing, or even embedded in some other app/let. Preferably GPL. Thanks. -- (C) Matthew Rubenstein

Do Not Call List
The US has a Do Not Call list to which people can subscribe to prevent being called by advertisers. Federal laws (strengthened by some state and more local laws) assign penalties for calling people/phones on the DNCL. Is there a query gateway that Asterisk (or an app using Asterisk) can filter through to ensure a number is OK to call (not on the list) before calling it? -- (C) Matthew Rubenstein
