Carbonite on Wine?
Is it forseeably possible to get Carbonite Online Backup running in Wine? This is something I've wanted to get working in Wine for quite a while now and have tried to do so every now and then (I think as far back as last year). Just now bringing this to the forums. I tried it again today and earlier this week with Wine 1.3.35. Nothing visible other than endless babbling outputting from

ACT! 6 Random Crashing
Ok, I recently upgraded to wine-0.9.29 and ACT is crashing randomly now. There doesn't seem to be any reason, or reproducible thing that I can do to make it crash, it just decides it has had enough, and crashes. Here is one output from the terminal when it crashed. wine act.exe fixme:system:SystemParametersInfoW Unimplemented action: 8193 (SPI_SETFOREGROUNDLOCKTIMEOUT)

I apologize if this is getting to the list multiple times. I keep getting a reply from wine-users-bounce so I am not sure that this is actually posting.... I attempted to install IE6SP1 using sidenet and got several errors about not being able to execute winshellink. When I attempt to launch IE, I get the following messages: fixme:shdocvw:IEWinMain "" 1 fixme:ole:CoResumeClassObjects

wine-1.9.20 IE6/gecko internet connect error
Dear all, I am unable to browse the internet via ie6 using wine-1.9.20. After a clean install of wine (wine built from src), i can run ie6 and i am immediately prompted to install gecko. Whether or not i install this yields the same result - basically the window remains blank indefinitely as it tried in vain to contact the internet. Below is the debugging info spat out by the program. Has

Ransomware?
I'm jumping in here late. There's been a lot of good suggestions already. Something I haven't seen mentioned is rsnapshot. The solution to ransomware like this is a good solid backup regimen and rsnapshot can be part of that. rsnapshot is opensource and based on rsync .. it requires a unix filesystem that supports hardlinks. It works on making a complete snapshot of the file system

Errors running IVONA Voices on Wine.
Installed IVONA Voices (http://www.ivona.com/), which seemed to run OK. Required SAPI5 installation with Wine in Windows ME emulation mode beforehand. Added another Text-to-Speech (TTS) engine (Demo of Text Aloud) to test, and it worked, using one of IVONA's voices. Copy is, of course licensed, although the demo has same results. I got the following errors when I run IVONA, can anyone help

Dear Lu Wei, I'm the author of the Rcmdr package but not of RcmdrPlugin.plotByGroup, so if there really is a problem -- which isn't apparent from your message -- then you may wish to contact the package author. First, as a general matter, menu items in the Rcmdr are grayed out if they're inappropriate in the current context. Rcmdr plug-in authors can use the same mechanism. So, for

cannot use package RcmdrPlugin.plotByGroup
Greetings, I am a new use of R, starting from R-commander. I find that the default quantile-comparison (Q-Q plot) of R-commander has no group option, and I happened to notice RcmdrPlugin.plotByGroup in the packages list. As the name is so explicit, I installed it, loaded it, R-commander restarted, but the 3 menu item under Graphs->plot by group are all greyed out. What could be wrong? --
