Are they seconds, fractions of seconds, heartbeats, what? ;'initialSilence' is the maximum silence duration before the greeting initial_silence = 25 ; Maximum silence duration before the greeting. Does there seem to be a popular Linux distro folks use specifically for Asterisk? I'd like to move off of FreeBSD but I'm not too familiar with Linux distros. In particular, I'm looking for a free, stable, well supported distro that has a friendly community. Any advice appreciated. I am having a bunch of issues with 1.4 and want to go back to 1.2 any ideas on the best way I saw someone say "apt-get remove" will this work for asterisk or do I need to do it for each libpri, addons, zaptel and asterisk? Thanks Jason

Hi list! I have to do a new bare metal installation of a box running Asterisk with bristuff or vzaphfc. The box will be used as a really lightly loaded file server and pbx. Any advise on which architecture I should use? The cpu is a 64 bit capable AMD (the box is running x86_64 now) but is still suffering from echo on the BRI lines. What's wrong with the Asterisk CLI history? When I exit the CLI, and re-enter, the last command in the history always defaults to 'stop now'. Hi, I'd like to use SSH without password so I can use it in scripts (for example in combination with rsync to do backups). I have Carla Schroder's "Linux Cookbook" and I'm trying out the various receipts, but the one for SSH without a password doesn't work. The book is slightly dated, and I wonder if SSH included in CentOS works differently. Any suggestions? Niki

Hi, I'd like to use cdrecord on the command line. I'm currently reading the relevant chapter in Carla Schroder's "Linux Cookbook". Unfortunately, some of the tricks and hints included in the book don't seem to work the same way on a standard CentOS 5 install. 1) Am I supposed to be root to use cdrecord and burn an .iso file? 2) How do I specify a device?

I read (some) docs got my CD set to r: with unhide set and ran setup on a couple of CD's and it went well... Wacko? If there is a file that errors are written to I could check that. But the screens kind of went in to a "Vulcan mind meld" so it was hard to tell what was going on. But It didn't crash the machine, I'm using Fedora 2. Is there an installer I should be using
