I'm upgrading my primary server from RH 7.2 to CentOS-4.3.ServerCD. I REALLY like the ServerCD. Who needs all the fluff that comes with a standard distro? If I want a system-config-gooey I can run Xnest [1] and ssh -X from my laptop. Anyway I have two questions: 1) How can I collectively stop all the NFS, portmap, whatever? It looks like my CentOS 4.2 box is attacking other people with some type of ftp attack. I got an email from somebody saying they were being attacked by my IP address. Further investigation /var/log/messages shows a whole bunch of sshd attacks on me, none of which appear successful. I'm running ethereal right now and I can see that my system is doing some kind of ftp attacks on others.

System requirements for CentOS 5 minimal installation (console and ssh) are....128 MB ram, 256...? I can't find this information in rhel5 installation manual.

I'm seeing some strange results from top on CentOS 4.0. When it first starts, it reports low CPU usage. The next refresh (and subsequent) refreshes, it shows high CPU usage. In both cases, there is nothing shown in the process list that is using much CPU. What is causing this? Here is some truncated output from a single run of "top -b -n 2":

I am running centos 4.2 on a P4 3 GIG with 2 GIG ram. This machine has been fine for months. my laptop is fine. X is taking 99 percent of the cpu after some time. All I was doing was editing code.
