Purpose of qualify=yes
We have a tenant who has been having issues with a congested connection and in trouble shooting it we've noticed that there seems to be a lot of SIP traffic even when none of the phones are doing anything. We've determined that this traffic is mostly INFO packets generated by setting qualify=2000. I understand that 2000 ms is the default value for the qualification parameter but what

Documentation for namespaces
Brian Ripley recently replied to a comment of mine by referring to a function 'assignInNamespace', which I had not heard of. Is there a good write up on name spaces in R? There are little tidbits in the manuals on the R site, but I found nothing substative. I'd like to understand these better. Terry Therneau

R2D2 VOIP Kubuntu 8.4 Ekiga, Ekiga.net voice conference
I'm having a problem getting a good clear output sidnal from Ekiga to a VOIP conference call using the Ekiga.net free conference call system. I'm told that each time I speak, my voice is clear & intelligible for about .5 - 2 seconds, but then it starts to be garbled, sounding like the sounds R2D2 makes. I've used 2 or three mic/headsets - two plug into my audio I/O sockets on my

sound driver advise needed
Hello-- How do I twiddle the sound drivers? I'm not that experienced with kernel twiddling and driver loading. I have Redhat 9. My previous attempts to play with the kernel and load extra drivers always ended with a new kernel that wouldn't boot. I know asterisk doesn't like to play with sound interfaces that aren't full duplex. So, when I built the system, I saw the MSI

updating to 6.4 broke olvwm/openwin
This morning a handful of workstations got upgraded from 6.3 to 6.4 and things seemed to be functional, until we tried to log in to one of our instrument accounts that for various reasons uses olvwm/openwin as the desktop (and no, I don't have the option of changing that at this time). The desktop appears to load correctly, and mouse-focus and clicking appears to work, but the

Rebuild - Again!?
I putzd around and messed up my primary system. I could get it back with a bunch of work a-rounds but I've decided to do a complete rebuild of it. What I need to run on this machine (besides the CentOS 5.2 OS) is Oracle 11g (requires gnome), VMware Server 2, JBoss 5, plus some other tidbits. Does anyone have or know of a checklist that I can use to make sure I've done everything

the difference between "x1" and x1
Hello, I am not sure what to write in the subject line, but I would like to take a character string that is a variable in a data frame and apply a function that takes a numeric argument to this character string. Here is a simplified example that would solve my problem. Imagine I have my data stored in a data frame. > x1 <- x2 <- x3 <- x4 <- x5 <- rnorm(20,0,1); > data <-

[LLVMdev] About setting up official git & bzr mirrors.
Time ago when the svn server was crawling due to massive hammering from people mirroring the repo, someone said that after the 2.6 release we could discuss creating official mirrors for those who work with svn clients based on distributed VCSs such as git and bazaar. Such mirrors increase productivity (facilitating experimentation and parallel tasks, allowing off-line work) and even lessens the

Update on Ptalarbvorm
Hi there, I was wondering if someone closer to the work happening in the Ptalarbvorm branch could be so kind as to provide a little update on progress? I've heard tidbits from around the web that the improvement over 1.1 is at least as much as 1.1 was itself over 1.0. I know that myself and many others found Monty's occasional updates on Thusnedla development to be absolutely fascinating

corrupted mbox
Heya, we have two IMAP (UW-imap and dovecot) servers accessing the same mbox files for our users (don't ask why) and sometimes the UW-imap corrupts the mbox file. The mbox looks just like normal mbox except it does not have the proper 'From ' beginning of the file (usually there are some random tidbits in the begining of the file, which can be easily stripped to recover the working

Request info on managing MySQL
Good day/night/whatever fellow techies, I've come to a small problem managing mysql on CentOS 4.7 box[1]. When I have done things on mysql on my desktop systems it was always just for personal use so I would be lazy and put everything under the "test" db so I didn't have to deal with all that security. But I find that I need to put some db's on the "production"

Moving to Samba PDC - 2K+XP profile problems?
Hello all, This is really a Windows question (and might be a bit off topic), but I know that the people on this list would know the answers I seek better than anyone. This weekend I am planning on moving the office from a Win2KServer-based domain to a Samba-controlled domain. The current server has been showing some hardware problems and is running out of space anyway. I have had my Samba

Administrativia: Documentation project slightly on hold (sorry!)
Hello security folks I (not so) recently asked for volunteers to the security documentation project. I got delightfully large number of volunteers! Thank you! Right now I have some personal (medical) issues to deal with, and I'll be out of town for the next 2 weeks. When I get back, we can move ahead at top speed. The project will have 3 parts. FAQ: This will cover any kind of basic

Has there been much thought of attempting to automate this process? I could imagine a fairly standard script that scrubbed a history for interesting tidbits. Of course a standard methodology for labeling types of commits would help this in the future. A very simple script could at least do unique word counts and throw out words that match a dictionary (like parts of speech, contributer names,

Resources for utilizing multiple processors
Hello, I know of some various methods out there to utilize multiple processors but am not sure what the best solution would be. First some things to note: I'm running dependent simulations, so direct parallel coding is out (multicore, doSnow, etc). I'm on Windows, and don't know C. I don't plan on learning C or any of the *nix languages. My main concern deals with Multiple

newbie question: strategy
newbie to R, less than a week, and I ordered some books about R, but I learn better by examples.. and thus far I cant find a good example of what I am trying to do... which follows: assuming one is using any instrument intra-day data... I want to.. open a file (lets name it signal) that will contain two fields... date/time(MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM) and signal (1=buy,-1=sell) open a file with real time
