Cisco upgrade to SIP was: Covad anyone ...
There is an option that you can add to your dhcp server option 150 IIRC. -----Original Message----- From: "Rich Adamson" <radamson@routers.com> To: "Asterisk Users Mailing List - Non-Commercial Discussion" <asterisk-users@lists.digium.com> Sent: 2/27/06 4:37 PM > Has anyone done any integration work with Covad's hosted solution ? RE: Cisco 7960 upgrade to SIP
I recently upgraded a Cisco 7960 to the SIP firmware, it worked fine without a "call-manager". I just put the SIP firmware and associated config files in the TFTP directory of my asterisk server so that the phone could pull the firmware off of my asterisk server via TFTP. It took me about 5 minutes maximum to get the phone working with SIP through asterisk. NO Call-manager was used in

T-1 vs channelised T-1?
OK. Now I show my ignorance. What's the difference between a T-1 and a channelised T-1? I see that Covad's voip service (formerly GoBeam) requires a channelised T-1. Then I read recently on the list that many T-1s being installed are actually HDSL....which would be not a T-1 at all...right? Michael -- Michael Graves mgraves@pixelpower.com Sr. Product Specialist

OT: DSL without voice
A lot of people are going for the "VOIP only" approach, but SBC says you have to have an active analog voice circuit before they will sell you DSL. Does anybody know which DSL providers will sell you DSL without making you pay for a voice circuit? Sayson IP Phones?
Have the Sayson IP phon started to deliver yet? I'm thinking about two new phones for my office and considering the Sayson 480i and Zultys 4x4. Would also consider the Virbiage phone if it becomes available. I have Snom 200s and a Pingtel phone at the moment. Michael -- Michael Graves mgraves@pixelpower.com Sr. Product Specialist

Asterisk for home office
I apoligize in advance for this newbie question on what I perceive as a mostly advanced level list... I did some searching, but would like some of your expert opinions. I'm building an asterisk server to be used in the home, both to learn, and as proof of concept of applying this solution in a home. To keep costs down, I'm considering one X100P ($25 ebay clone) card to connect the

Using DECT phones as SIP phones?
I see a variety of DECT 6 phones available CHEAP at costco. Is there a way to convert these to SIP? I recall someone talking about a Siemens devices that works with all DECT phones, making them SIP (I think).... -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Intel 875P/ICH5 motherboard chipset
Does anyone know if support for the Intel 875P/ICH5 motherboard chipset has yet made it into the stable branch? (Is release 4.9 likely to have it?) I am mainly interested in the IDE and "native" serial ATA devices. There is also a new Intel ethernet controller chip, 82547EI, that is designed to interface directly with the 875P chip. The currently supported chip list only goes up to

Jitter buffer
Hi, I thought I'd repost this to the -users list for some background on the jitter buffer and its workings and remaining issue.s I'll also pu a little executive summary here at the top: Where a channel is native bridged to another iax2 channel: 1) Lag is not measured and will usually show 0ms. Any other number is an old measurement from the start of the call 2) The jitter

OT: Please comment on Dvorak's troll
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1812887,00.asp Specifically, his assertion that ISP's would sniff traffic and block, say, the SIP port. You could play wack-a-mole with port numbers, no? Also a community based, Freenet style of encryption implementation for "free" VoIP traffic would address this issue. I raise this to the list because I'm sure there's a grain of

FreeBSD 4.9 RC1 (more bad news)
A few hours ago I downloaded .../i386/ISO-IMAGES/4.9-RC1-i386-disc1.iso and made kern/mfsroot floppies from it. If I enable my ICH5R SATA controller in "native" mode, the 4.9-RC1 GENERIC kernel hangs solidly (only the system reset button can unwedge it) during device configuration. The last line of bootstrap monologue written by the kernel is: plip0" <PLIP network

Xorcom Rapid CD for Production?
Hi All, The past day or so I've setup a new * server based upon the Xorcom Rapid ISO. It did as promised; wiped the base system, installed Debian OS, installed Asterisk with a dummy configuration. So far so good. If I could get the config from my existing * server migrated to the Xorcom box the I'd be ready to roll. Essentially, it would be the same as I have now on Fedora Core 1, but

4.9-20030914-PRERELEASE hangs during boot
I just noticed the 4.9-20030914-PRERELEASE and made a set of installation boot floppies from it to see which of the devices in my new PC the PRERELEASE would support. It wedged hard during the boot autoconfiguration monologue, just after typing these lines on the console: atapci0: <Intel ICH5 ATA100 controller> port 0xf000-0xf00f,0-0x3,0-0x7,0-0x3,0-0x7 irq 0 at device 31.1 on pci0 ata0:

Ethernet Channel Bank idea
Anyone ever thought about an Ethernet based channel bank? Basically a rack mount set of 24 IAXys? That would be cool, IMO. No wrangling with zaptel, etc. IAX as the * <-> Channel bank protocol. Just an idea...

Residential router w/ QoS support?
Did anybody ever come across an affordable, residential cable/dsl router with support for QoS? The ones I've seen so far (Netgear, D-Link and W-Linx) do not seem to support it. I noticed that even email can damage a G.711 stream on an 128kbit uplink, leave alone file-sharing applications. I understand this is strictly related to *, but nevertheless of interest to many of us. Thilo
