Conference bridge dimensioning
We are using an Asterisk box to do conferencing right now. I have had
about sixteen active lines in conference and the quality was acceptable.
We now have a need for 50 people to conference at one time. Does anyone
have enough experience doing this to give me some pointers. Will it even
be reasonable to try this? Is the mixing done on the the hardware, I
plan on using a quad span t-1 card from

Dell PowerEdge 2850
Hello,
Digium uses the Dell PE 2850 for their testing. This site says that 3.3V PCI slot.
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+hardware
We are planning on purchasing a Dell PE 2850 and putting a TE205P card on it. However, the needs a 5V PCI slot. Does Dell PE 2850 has a 5V PCI slot? A person in our group tried to call Dell's customer support but they do not seem to know.

MeetMe hardware dimensioning
Hi all.
What is the best hardware configuration to handle this following
scenario?
- 4 IVR menu with conference applications for each option;
- Only SIP/g711 user access
- 3500 simultaneous users(800 at the beginning)
- No ZAP channels
Where is the most important point of failure? CPU? Ethernet? RAM?
Im planning to separate in three servers:

Problems with Voice conferencing
How did you install these packages -- make sure you do ./configure and
if needed make menuselect in each one of these before the make and
make install. This is the only thing I can think of -- check whether
there are any built-in modules as well.

VoIP Users Conference Call Friday Nov 7 On Wideband Voice & Conferencing
This Friday's edition of the weekly VoIP Users Conference call is all
about wideband audio (aka HD Voice) and conferencing. The guest for
this call is David Frankel, CEO of ZipDX a commercial service that
specializes in wideband conferencing. We expect an interesting call
touching on many aspects of VoIP going beyond the traditional phone
service, conference bridges, technical standards,

RE: Hardware dimensioning issues To: <juanmoyano@southecon.com.ar>
Juan,
I am running a Calling Card application on a
Dell PowerEdge 2850 with Asterisk 1.0.7.
Recording conversations I have seen on my server
causes the processors to burn more than necessary
so I would recommend what William from Signate
recommended:
" Consider saving recorded calls in a database on a
separate server. It will be simpler to build a
retrieval interface that does not

Asterisk High-Capacity Stability
Thanks Alex, some great ideas.
I think, however, I'm leaning towards Asterisk at this point- since I have
quite a bit of experience there, and very little with SER. At this point,
I'm wondering from a dimensioning standpoint, what kind of capacity my
machine will have (Dual Core Xeon 2.4GHz 4GB RAM). As I said, I don't plan
to do any transcoding. I read the voip-info page on

Ampersand Heartburn
Greetings all.
I''m using the Microsoft "NorthWind Traders" database "orders" table as
test data for the Rico LiveGrid JavaScript.
The problem I''m noticing is that some of the records in the "ShipName"
field contain ampersands -- which for some reason are not being escaped
by Rails.
Rails does in fact automatically escape all of the other

HW Capacity plan - How many Digium is recomended per server
Hello all,
I'm evaluating a VRU project which has huge requirements. I'm looking
for metrics but I haven't found anything that cover my requirements
Initial estimation:
Erlang 61.450
BTH 25.980
T1 req. 88
Digium HW support 4 T1 per card, assuming that each server host 3
Wildcard then 7 clustered servers will be required to support this load,
but, How many Digium cards is

Dimensioning a 50 sip phone installation
Hi,
Some help with dimensioning the server will be gladly accepted.
-50 sip phones (g729) or g711(to avoid transcoding) in LAN
-an asterisk server (1.4) doing normal pbx functions + voicemail in the same LAN
-Some sporadic conferencing with no more than 2 sip phones and maybe 2
or 3 calls coming from the E1 for a total of 5 people in a conference.
The asterisk server will get an E1(pri) via one

dimensioning: Where is the CPU vs Asterisk load table
Hi, is there any good calculator/table/reference about proper dimensioning?
I read the wiki and they basically say "xx users run fine in yy hardware"
http://www.voip-info.org/tiki-index.php?page=Asterisk+dimensioning.
SO far I read that:
-Run up to 4 E1s per CPU (which one? an i386 or a dual core?
-it is very CPU intensive to do transcoding. Try to minimize it.
-you can help the CPU

I figured that asterisk can do conferencing if we have zap interface. The

Asterisk conferencing features
Hello!
I'm new in Asterisk and I hope that my trouble is very simple.
We're implementing a Education Project of a e-Learning system (LMS)
that uses conferencing (video and audio) over internet.
The e-Learning system will be on GPL license, and for that, we're
using only free software to implement.
Asterisk is our first choice for video and audio conferencing, and
making tests,

SIP Ad-Hoc Conferencing with Asterisk
Hi,
Does anybody have an idea on how to realise ad-hoc conferencing with
Asterisk ? Although Asterisk MeetMe and maybe a procedure with Call
Holding could somehow come close to ad-hoc conferencing, it doesn't seem to
be the right way to do it. Any experience with ad-hoc conferencing using
SIP in general as well as with Asterisk?
Thanks,
Joerg

This is not directly * related, but could be. My company is
using a VoIP conferencing solution that is suffering from

I've considered trying to leverage *, and our internal developers
