What business IP phone to use
I have been struggling with this issue for about a year now. There were just too many IP phones to choose from at all sorts of price points and not enough information about any of them. Now I am looking at the situation again and if anything it has gotten worse. There are even more phones and all sorts of opinions. For every person that says phone x is great there is someone else complaining

SLA Appearance between 2 Cisco 7960's (SIP)
Has anyone had any success with getting SLA going between 2 SIP phones? (Particularly a set of Cisco 79xx's) The SLA document that comes with the asterisk source is about as clear as mud. Does anyone have a working sip.conf, sla.conf, and extensions.conf that I can use for reference? The part I'm most confused about is how to build the lines in sip.conf and how the phones should

"real life" example of SLA definition
Hello, I am looking for a "real life" example of using SLA lines under Asterisk. I'll describe my environment and would like to know how I define it in Asterisk (version 1.4 final). Suppose I have two multi lines phones. The first phone has extension 1 assigned to it, and the second phone has extension 2 assigned to it. Now, I want extension 3 to be available on both phones as

Shared Extension Appearance
If SLA supports IP trunks, can shared extension appearance be achieved using a local SIP trunk in place of an extension? Basically, I'm trying to allow some stations (Polycom IP 650) to have a shared extension amongst all of them. Ideally, I'd like for the LED to show if that extension is in use, and I'd like for the extension to ring all stations on that extension when a call comes

cisco spa phones and sal
Hi ?? I have been trying for several days get 3 Cisco spa508g phones (firmware 7.5.5) to work with asterisk 11.6 cert1 and sla. I can get the phones to all ring when an incoming call arrives, and I see the slatrunk working. However the blf function does not work. If one extension picks up the call the others do not show the trunk in use.? And as you might expect the hold and outbound dialing does

Shared Line Appearance - Aastra 55i - Does it work?
Does anyone have Shared (bridged) Line Appearance working in Asterisk 1.4? Specifically with the Aastra 55i. Specifically, I am using the Aastra 55i with the expansion module. We want to see if other handsets are being used. (BLF) Getting BLF to work would be a great start. It sounds like setting up the hints properly will achieve this. right? Not totally sure how this should be configured.

Asterisk and SATA Raid 1
I was just wondering if there are any problems using the latest FreePBX with SATA Raid 1 using hardware assisted software Raid like most modern chipsets support? I know that Digium and FreePBX were not recommending it awhile back but I think that was based on 2.4 Kernel and Digium hardware issues. I am assuming it is not a problem with the latest FreePBX using 2.6 Kernel and Sangoma cards? Any

Atcom IP-4B ISDN IP PBX?
Hello For customers who need a small IP PBX to handle up to four ISDN lines (in France, so I guess that means EuroISDN) instead of a PC + Asterisk and an ISDN gateway box, has someone already played with the Atcom IP-4B? www.atcom.cn/IP-BRIM.html Any feedback appreciated.

Cost of IP Phones, or Isn't It Just Software?
I took a little foray into pricing out IP Phones for my home pbx yesterday. $75-$750 seems to be quite a range, so I took a closer look. Cisco, for example, has different models such as the 7940 and 7960 which seem to only differ in the software. And buying a Cisco 7920 should cost you $500 w/o a license, and $200 more with a license? It seems to me that these prices are substantially

Sipura Devices and Asterisk?
I'm currently using the Linksys PAP2, and since there's a shortage I'm looking for different devices. I'm mainly looking at the Sipura SPA sets since they are the base of the pap2. Anyone else have experience using them, and which one? Thanks Sherwood McGowan -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Hello, Just want to tap the collective wisdom of this list as to experiences pertaining to the Handytone HT488 and the Sipura SPA-3000 adapters... Basically I'm looking for a FXO/FXS/LAN ATA and these two seems to be the top of the pick..Any comments and experiences esp. with Asterisk compatibility would be great, before I plonk in the bucks. Shared line appearance phones?
Hi List, What phones support shared line appearance? I would like a phone where we can place calls on a line and have them picked up at another phone, but we don't want to use call parking. I want to use this in a multi tenant environment so I would need multiple lots. Any ideals for me? Thanks! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Asterisk BRI in the USA
Hey all, It such a shame that BRI technology is such a flop in the USA. For a small office such as mine it would be a great product. So her goes my question.... What is a known asterisk working BRI card that will operate in the USA. I need to weigh price/quality. I need to do DID/DDI (or what ever you want to call it). Asterisk will do everything else I need. The ILEC has at the other

Bullet-proof FXO?
Been using a few different FXO interfaces (X100P, Voicetronix, and SPA-3000) at a couple sites and they've all run into nasty issues at times. I'm looking at moving one of my offices and am in the market for a solution for connecting 4 FXOs. I got excited about recent offerings from Digium and Sangoma in the way of new cards but I hear they're causing troubles for more than a few.

Asterisk as a dedicated Analog PSTN gateway
Hi there, I was wondering if anyone has successfully used Asterisk as a dedicated Analog PSTN gateway to take the place of, for example, a Mediatrix 1204 or an 8 port model? Basically, I am thinking of using a Linksys SPA9000 as the PBX and just need an Analog PSTN gateway for 4 to 8 FXO lines. It does not sound like the Mediatrix 1204 does a very good job and I figure I can build a much more

Bunch of set-up/usage questions (SLA, MWI, SMS proxy's, crypto, Fax, etc)
Howdy, Excuse the neophyte questions... I was wondering: (1) what's involved in setting up a call with encrypted media (I'm on a cable network and don't want my calls snooped); (2) is there a cheat-sheet for configuring Sipura handsets/hardphones like the SPA-942, and in particular for message-waiting indicator and shared-line appearances? (3) my PSTN service provider that I

[Zaptel] Why no port to Windos?
Hello I was wondering why there doesn't seem to a Windows version of Zaptel, making the Digium and its clones unavailable for a Windows PBX. Is the Zaptel/Zapata combo too *nix-centric? Thanks.

An FXO version of IAXy?
Hello-- In the interest of Symmetry, does anyone else in the world see any need for a device like the IAXy (or the SIP ones from other manufacturers, like the ATA186), but one that presents an FXO interface instead, so it can be connected not to phones, but the PSTN? murf
