MultiISP: failover and dynamic IP
Dear list,
Shorewall is running here with 2 ISP''s:
ISP1: corporate ADSL-line with fixed set of IP''s
ISP2: fast consumer-grade cable-connection with higher bandwidth
All our main traffic (web, e-mail) is routed trough ISP1. Only for
special purposes (frequent large ftp-transfers) ISP2 is used, configured
trough tcrules.
ISP2 is not so reliable as ISP1 (duh) and they sometimes

Client cannot connect to Internet
Hello List,
This is my first post to the list, and as such I apologize for the length of
it. I tried to put as much detail into this as possible.
I recently installed Shorewall on a computer running Gentoo Linux. The
computer has 3 network cards in it, but I''ve only configured 2. Going the
cheap route, I''m connecting my client directly to my firewall using a
crossover cable.

Redundant internet connections.
(I know that what I''m wanting to do can be done, but for some reason I
can not get it to work for the life of me. I think I have been staring
at it too long and too closely.)
I have two different internet connections from two cooperating ISPs. I
also have a small 8 block of IPs that are globally routable that both
ISPs will route to me via my world facing globally routable IPs that

Should I choose DSL @ 1.5 or a full T1?
I'm looking to expand my bandwidth for my Asterisk PBX.
Why should I choose a T1 over DSL for my asterisk server?
I found someone offering T1's for $290 a month + Loops or 3 Meg for $561 a month + Loops. Is this a good deal?
Thanks
Bart

HTB Weird Shaping Question(Bug?). Please Help!
Hi all,
I have a script that allocates an ADSL(1500K/256K) bandwidth to three
users.
My idea is to allow each user having a guarentee rate, while each one is
allowed to burst to the max rate while no one is using the bandwidth.
I use imq0 for uplink (for some mobility reason) and imq1 for downlink.
Everything works smoothly except for VoIP traffic.
There are three VoIP phones attached to a

single static ip address
Hi Tinc group,
I have recently got an adsl connection at home, which only provides
a single static ip address. I want to set up a tinc vpn from home to
my workplace. I am trying to decide what hardware I need to do the
above. At the moment, I am aware that I could use an Alcatel
Speedtouch USB modem directly connected to a Linux vpn box at
my home.

RE: HOW TO COMBINE 2 DSL LINES IN THE SAME COMPUTER
J,
What i meant is...like in Linux you make use of the two external
connections and collate them as mentioned in the document. Can you try
keeping the Linux box in front of the two windowze boxen and collate the
two LAN connections coming from them as mentioned in the HOWTO???.

Fwd: Traffic Shaping on a Transparent Bridge not working!
I''m trying to shape traffic on a Devil-Linux box.
This note was originally sent to their maillist,
because the LARTC list appears to have been down
for the past few days. My mailbox was just flooded
with a half dozen or so confirmation requests in response
to my repeated attempts to subscribe to this list.

Patch to allow for the ATM "cell tax"
I have been trying to optimise my ADSL connections for VOIP.
Funny things were happening - for example increasing the ping
packet size by 50% had no effect, but then adding one byte
had a major effect. It took me a while to figure out that I
was seeing the effects of the fixed ATM cell size.
This is probably obvious to some of you. For the rest: ADSL
uses ATM as its transport. An ATM

ADSL channel boding or Load balancing
Hi There,
We currently using iproute2 for load balancing. However we need more
upload speed as we load balance over 3 dsl lines.
I''ve been looking for a way to combine the upload speed to more
faster. Found a site called www.upstreaminter.net where these guys
bond the adsl channels to improve uploads, Since downloading is
problem as its need to know the ip address of the downloader they

Registration failed problems/Polycom 500/maybe nat problem?
I have sent a Polycom IP500 phone to an overseas remote user who has a
Speedtouch adsl modem/router. The phone is connected to the 4 port
router which performs NAT for the network.
The phone rboots, find the server, downloads it's config and tried to
register. Then it immediately becomes UNREACHABLE.

Guys
Considering the festive season is upon us, thanks to everyone
contributing to the list and helping all the readers with your great
input! I don''t want to mention names, I''ll most certainly leave
someone out.
With this mail I''d like to test some theory on bandwidth management,
with my own successes and failures during the past year.

Asterisk crashes my router!?
Hi,
Does anybody else have problems like this.
I'm in the UK with a 1mb ADSL service from Eclipse. I have a Draytek
Vigour 2600 ADSL router.
My * box is configured with a public IP address which is presented on
one of the switch ports on the rear of the router.
When there is some SIP activity, incoming mainly, towards my * box,
the router will lockup after a short period?!

It''s the first time I really noticed that these little Linksys routers
are such a fully fledged linux machine with a decent processor and a
replacable firmware. I am now itching to get one to replace the
multipurpose firewall desktop machine.
Has anyone experimented with the current state of the firmware and how
advanced you can get with tc rules? For
