External Dial-up Modem
I am having an issue with Centos 6 and an external USRobotics modem. We use the modem as part of a last resort SMS paging system. Across multiple Dell servers, different models, I can't not get the modem to respond to simple AT commands while using Minicom. At the same time if I connect the server to a console port on a switch I can successfully access the switches serial console. So I

network interface activation order
I am using CentOS as a firewall/router. I am using bonded interfaces, vlan interfaces, and bridge interfaces. My problem currently is that on boot the system is attempting to activate the bridge interface before it's bonded-vlan members have been created. What this means is that the bridge is created but not activated. Is there anyway for me to influence the activation order and have

Centos Router
With the current discuss of "Performance of CentOS as a NAT gateway", I am curious how many people out there are using CentOS as a Router/Firewall in an enterprise or service provider environment. For myself I am not really concerned about NAT just a stateful firewall. The other half of my questions is about performance. I have read many articles and posts on the net about

[OT] Shaping and squid question
List Out of interest, I use transparent squid proxies for caching websites, and I shape the clients that browse the net, this all works perfectly so no questions in this regard... CLIENT <--- eth0 ----> SQUID <----- ppp0 -----> NET What I just realised was that all egress traffic on eth0 gets shaped, squid gets data from ppp0 and hence is not shaped. Does this mean that squid

squid cache question
Hi Friends, Same question has been asked on the Squid mailing list but so far no reply on the mailing list so posting it here also. We are trying to cache some files from apple.com like .dmg, .pkg, .ipa etc.. so that local clients can fetch the data from the cache. The problem we are facing is that we have download restrictions for every client to 25 MB during work hours except for a particular

I have recompiled a 2.4.22 kernel, enabled all QoS support in the kernel config, including HTB. My ADSL bandwidth is 256Kbit/s for download and 64Kbit/s for upload. I use the following HTB+IPTABLES configuration, because I want to reduce bandwith for

Squid + SquidGuard : static block page not working
Hi, I've been working with Squid + SquidGuard for a few years, though only on Slackware. I'm currently transferring my proxy expertise to CentOS 7, and right now I'm having a little problem with that. Squid works perfectly so far as a transparent HTTP + HTTPS cache proxy. The next step is to add SquidGuard, so I installed it and edited the most basic /etc/squid/squidGuard.conf file

Shorewall and Squid 2.6
Hi all, (not sure that this is the right places where send this. sorry) I think that http://www.shorewall.net/Shorewall_Squid_Usage.html must be updated. The current SQUID version (2.6) don''t support anymore the ''httpd_accel'' directives. So anyone that would follow this guide for configure a transparent proxy will receive an error 400. Transparent Squid and FirewallD : fine-tuning question
Hi, I just setup a very basic HTTP proxy with Squid on a router running CentOS 7. Up until early 2020 I've been using a bone-headed shell script with iptables to configure my firewall. But I decided to follow advice from a few gurus on this list, and I've since moved my configurations to FirewallD, which works nicely. There's one configuration left to tackle, that's port

Squid vs. iptables redirection: exception for certain domains ?
Hi, Another idea - but this gets complicated and with that, prone to faults - use a simple shell script to resolve the desired domains and keep their IPs in an ipset, then use the ipset in your firewall rules, this way you can keep your iptables rules static, your squid config static and simply add or remove IPs from the ipset. -- Sent from the Delta quadrant using Borg technology!
