Apache and TCP Wrappers
I'm trying to lock down Apache and SSH by using TCP Wrappers. I put /etc/hosts.allow to be httpd: IP#1 IP#2 127.0.0.1 sshd: IP#1 IP#2 127.0.0.1 and hosts.deny ALL: ALL This seems to work great for ssh, and not at all for httpd. Does anyone know why this would be? thanks

yum & proxy
Hi, I've just installed a server with CentOS 4. This server is behind a proxy. I'm trying to import the RPM key. Already set http_proxy variable to: export "http_proxy"=http://proxy.xpto.com:3128 Truth is, command # rpm --import http://mirror.centos.org/centos/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-4 just leaves me hanged. Any ideas ? Warm Regards, M?rio Gamito

CentOS and HP Drivers
I am debating installing CentOS on a new HP DL580 with an MSA1000 SAN. HP offers drivers that are specific to RHEL and will not install on other RH distros i.e. RH 9. Has anyone gotten the HP SupportPack to install under CentOS? Thanks! -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

BoF - Gluster for VM store use case
During Gluster Summit, we discussed gluster volumes as storage for VM images - feedback on the usecase and upcoming features that may benefit this usecase. Some of the points discussed * Need to ensure there are no issues when expanding a gluster volume when sharding is turned on. * Throttling feature for self-heal, rebalance process could be useful for this usecase * Erasure coded volumes with

Comparison of two very large strings
Hi, I have a function in R that compares two very large strings for about 1 million records. The strings are very large URLs like:- http://query.nytimes.com/gst/sitesearch_selector.html?query=US+Visa+Laws&type=nyt&x=25&y=8. .. or of larger lengths. The data-frame looks like:- id url 1

Add Win2kPro Workstation to new Linux PDC
I created a new virtual Linux server running the Red Hat v7.2 distribution. After getting a MySQL/PHP application running, the next step was to add a Win2kPro Workstation to a new Linux PDC. Towards that end I modified the smb.conf file as described below to turn the virtual Linux server into a stand alone PDC. A 'MACHINE.SID' was created in the /usr/local/samba/private directory.

File shares seem to timeout?
Hi, I have a samba server joined to a Win 2000 domain. It all works fine except that for some reason if a Win2KPro client has a file/folder open overnight (or for a long time), then they are disconnected. I can't find a relevant timeout setting when browsing through swat. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks, Alistair. _________________________________________________________________

Normally things max out at ~150-250. The trick is to use multiple files, create the lvm stack and use native LVM striping. We have found that 4-6 files seems to give

Win2k needs password twice
Hi, I've recently upgraded a few of the win98 machines here to win2kpro, and now, after logging in, the password has to be entered again for the shares. I've searched around but can't find a solution to this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is on Samba 2.0.7 on FreeBSD, and here is smb.conf: [global] guest account = nobody security = user workgroup

samba will not work for me... :/
I've had this problem since FreeBSD 4.3. This problem continues with my FreeBSD 4.4 machine. I can't connect from my Win98se and Win2kPro machines to my FreeBSD 4.4 Samba server. I've tried it all... but still no luck. I've run smbd and nmbd manually with the "-D" parameter. I can connect internally from my FreeBSD 4.4 box using "./smbclient
