Serial ATA hardware raid.
Hi everyone, I'm looking into setting up a SATA hardware raid, probably 5 to use with CentOS 4. I chose hardware raid over software mostly because I like the fact that the raid is transparent to the OS. Does anyone know of any SATA controllers that are well tested for this sort of usage? From what I can tell from googling, this is more or less where RHEL stands: Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Hot swap CPU
From: Rodrigo Barbosa <rodrigob at suespammers.org> > Btw, don't quote me on this one :) > I'm only 90% sure of the hotswapping capabilities, and less than 50% > sure about the price :) There _are_ systems with hot-swap CPUs, memory and/or, PCI[-X] slots. They are _not_ commodity and pricey, and require OS-level support. In fact, I believe Linux 2.6 has some support for

apple to Intel
I am wondering what the list's opinion is on the Apple to Intel switch. This is going to put a slick desktop that runs on top of BSD directly into the mainstream. What does this hold for Linux in general, Linux on the desktop..and microsoft. -- Computer House Calls, Networks, Security, Web Design: http://www.emmanuelcomputerconsulting.com What businesses are in Brunswick, Maryland?

[OT] Memory Models and Multi/Virtual-Cores -- WAS: 4.0 -> 4.1 update failing
From: Maciej ?enczykowski <maze at cela.pl> > That's a good point - does anyone know what the new Intel > Virtualization thingamajig in the new dual core pentium D's is about? It's all speculation at this point. But there are _several_ factors. But I'm sure the first time Intel saw AMD's x86-64/PAE52 presentation, the same thing popped into my mind that popped

Opteron Mobo Suggestions
I've been planning to build a dual Opteron server for awhile. I'd like to get people's suggestions on a suitable motherboard. I've looked at the Tyan K8SE (S2892) and K8SRE (S2891) but would like to find more Linux-specific experiences with these boards. Some features I expect are at least 4 SATA (SATA-300?) ports, serial console support in the BIOS, USB 2.0 and IEEE-1394

maximum cpus/cores in CentOS 4.1
What is the maximum number of AMD64 cores supported by CentOS 4? The RedHat page https://www.redhat.com/software/rhel/configuration/ suggests that RHEL 4 AS supports up to 8 AMD64/EM64T logical cpus. Is that accurate and does it apply to CentOS 4? I see a few vendors offering boxes with 8 (dual core) CPU sockets. IWILL for one. Thanks, Tony Schreiner Boston College

Row order in plot
I'm new to R so forgive me if this seems like a simple question: So I have table where the row titles are string variables. When I plot the data with rows along the x-axis, the data is ordered alphabetically as opposed to the order of the table. How can I preserve the row order of the table in the plot? Thanks in advance. -- View this message in context:

DELL SC430 + CentOS 4.0 + SATA HDDs
Dear gurus, Three DELL SC430s were purchased by my company a few months back and I've been told that when they spoke with the DELL representatives, they were informed that these servers were fully RHEL 4.0 compatible. Specs of the servers:- - Pentium 4 - 2.8 GHz - 1 GB RAM - 2x 250GB SATA HDDs I tried installing CentOS 4.0 on it but it doesn't seem to be able to detect any hard

Let me know in terms of CentOS 3 and/or 4 please.

Auto key legend does not match plot
Dear R-help members. I am an 'R-learner' (about 6 hours so far) using the lattice library to create a ranked dotplot and am colour coding the dots by a variable called "Commodity". However when i use autokey to make a legend the size (cex) and symbol (pch) do not match what is on the dotplot. Code is below and image attached library("lattice") Cal_dat <-

Motherboards
Does anyone have any experience with Super-Micro brand motherboards // dual Xeon cpu's? Had to swap out my Tyan piece of junk and going back with the S-M board. I believe it has similar north/southbridge chips on it -- at least they are the intel MCH ICH5R and PXH plus the 82546GB. One area that the Tyan board was seriously lacking in was in the hardware monitoring department. The S-M

I am getting a few bad sector messages in my /var/log/messages. I have read where an "fsck -c -c /dev/hda" may be what I need. Before I go doing such things I am looking for confirmation that that is what I should do. Anyone please comment on how to tell linux to not use sectors in my disk. This is stright IDE no raid not nothing at this point /dev/hda is all. Thanks, jerry
