fit a "threshold" function with nls
I am trying to model a dependent variable as a threshold function of my independent variable. What I mean is that I want to fit different intercepts to y following 2 breakpoints, but with fixed slopes. I am trying to do this with using ifelse statements in the nls function. Perhaps, this is not an appropriate approach. I have created a very simple example to illustrate what I am trying to do.

openssh and multiple ports
Hi, I must access several hosts through reverse masquerading gateways which are visible on the Internet under a single IP address, with different ports (2, 22, 222, 2222 etc..) forwarding to port 22 of various internal ssh servers, each with its own hostkey. This setup totally confuses the openssh client because it does not store the port numbers in the known_hosts* file, and thus falsely

Model (Y) from left-censored independant variable (s)
Hi all; I'm trying to model a response variable (Y) from one (and eventually more...) independant left-censored variable (X*) In other words, X* is a random variable with values 0 -> inf. Thus, let c=0 X*= x if x>= c X*= c if x< c Does anyone knows a function or package in [R] enabling to model Y from a censored predictor X*? Thanks for your help! ?tienne ?tienne Boucher

Hi Ted, ext3 folks, Here's what I get when trying to add an ext3 journal to a mounted ext2 filesystem here: # tunefs -j /dev/hda5 tune2fs 1.21, 15-Jun-2001 for EXT2 FS 0.5b, 95/08/09 Creating journal inode: tune2fs: Bad file descriptor while trying to create journal file which is not surprising, given that the filedescriptor is closed (and not re-opened) before the fstat in

What happens when you type in the UNC of a samba server manually? (i.e. \\SAMBASERVERNAME) I hope I can help you, and I'm trying, but I'm not a samba guru. -Dan PS. Basic server role question
I have a samba 3.2.3-0.1-1882 server running on Suse SL11.0. It's out of the box, just the way YAST builds it. Pardon the extremely basic level questions here. The intent for this server is basically just file and print services. (It's defined as a BDC, I think, because I didn't do that on a previous install and I couldn't get name service (wins) to work right. Wins works

proposing $E & $T
Hey all, I''ve had these functions for some time now, and would like to offer them as two new dollar-sign functions - elements to be extended by Prototype geniuses. :-) makeText(string) as $T() - return text node element Does just what it says... I''m sure someone could extend it nicely when via Prototype. (example) var x = $T(''hello world'');
