DEVICE_STATE() and Asterisk 1.6.0.10
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I must be missing something here but I can't figure out why I can't get DEVICE_STATE() to give me anything other than "NOT_INUSE". I have two extensions: 6666 and 6668. I used 6668 to make a call to yet another phone, so I know that it's busy. I then use 6666 to call 6668 and in the dialplan have a noop to see what

Asterisk feature list: spreadsheet
http://www.loligo.com/asterisk/misc/Presentations/Asterisk-features-20040106.xls I had been asked a while ago to put together a short Excel spreadsheet listing many of the "common" features of Asterisk as compared to a typical PBX. Many PBX vendors supply an exhaustive list of their features, and I figured I'd take as many of the unique features as others had offered, and put

Memory overcommit
I have been using Xen on a daily basis on a production (but not critical) machine for a number of months now. It''s looking really good. One thing that I have not yet seen anyone mention as a feature that I would really like to see is the ability to overcommit memory. I have 2G of RAM in my machine. I would like to give a developer his own virtual domain to sandbox his application

What technology could my phone company be using?
I live in New Brunswick Canada. The phone company is Aliant. When you set up business service here, you can go with either analog or digital lines. This isn't a T1 or ISDN. They are talking individual lines direct to handsets that they provide. They offer the digital option with even very small ( 2 - 4) number of lines. What technology could this be? Is there any way to connect such a

Simultaneous ring on Soft phone and Desk phone.
Hi, In my Office all our users have a Desk phone. Some of the users who are using laptops have a Soft phone too along with their Desk phone. Right now we are using two different extensions for their desk and soft phones. Is it possible to have simultaneous ring for both the extensions (ie. soft phone and desk phone). I tried using " Dial(SIP/desk & SIP/soft) " and it works fine

Cannot transfer with Cisco or Snom
I am having a hell of a time with transfers. First the Snom issues: The transfer button on the Snom 220 does not work. I have read about setting break key off in the advanced page of the web config but the Snom 220 has no such option. At the moment I am having to use the # transfer hack which makes this phone look really stupid to have buttons on it that cannot be used. Anyone know how to

T.38 "pass-thru"
Hello, As I understand * don't supports T.38 in Zap channels (please correct me if I'm wrong, BTW is there plans for such support?) I believe it's should support T.38 in "pass-thru" mode. I mean setup like this: Hardware gate with T.38 ------ Asterisk ------ Hardware gate with T.38 But I had troubles with this setup (no faxing) while two gates conneted directly with same

BGM Music
Is there any way to play background music on a sip phone while the phone is not in use like many legacy pbx's offer? Could you take 7960 and use the 6th line in a similar fashion to the all setup maybe? Thoughts ideas? -- respectfully, Joseph - (606) 477-2355 x140 ------=============

Where to purchase ISDN (BRI) cards in Australia (preferably)
Hello all, I was wondering if anybody knows where one might obtain a PCI ISDN card supporting a single BRI for use with Asterisk in Australia (and using something like chan_capi). Because of the Isdn4Linux DTMF issue, I don't want one of those cards. I've already spent too much time messing about with my current card. I'm after something like the AVM Fritz! cards. I found one place

For the Australian Asterisk users
I've noticed that a few people here are from Australia. I'm wondering where you all get your hardware from. I'll probably order some of the X100P cards from Digium soon (and possibly some FXO cards), but for other things such as ATAs, etc. However - these obviously aren't ACA compliant. Does anybody know of compatible hardware (for POTS lines) that is ACA compliant? The cheapest

VOIP phonesets vs. cheap Analog touch-tone sets with Asterisk
Hello-- I've been asked an interesting question, and I'm too ignorant to answer it authoritatively (yet). Can anyone help me? Question: If I'm going to implement a somewhat small (10-80) phone system, and I have a choice of using VOIP phoneset (like SNOM or Grandstream or Cisco, etc), vs. cheap analog touch-tone phones, exactly what features will I kiss goodbye if I use the cheap

Cisco 7.2 firmware for SIP 7940/7960 released
Hi All, Just a heads up - I was looking around the Cisco FTP a little while ago and noticed that the SIP 7.2 images for Cisco IP Phone 7940/7960 were released yesterday (16th August). No new features - all bug fixes according to the release notes. I've already started using it. I thought those of you running the Cisco phones and the appropriate access who didn't yet know would like to

iConnectHere - calls dropping out?
Hi all, This is my first post here - I started with Asterisk a few days ago and have "fallen in love" - fantastic product. I've only got softphones connected at the moment - I'll probably order the FXO/FXS cards in about a month (and then think about getting some hardware SIP phones). Our current phone system is quite a few years old and isn't growing with us (when a single
