Guiding principle - adapting TO the environment or adapting the environment
Guys, I need some input on best practices from the group regarding choosing between a reactive and proactive approach when determining setup for a host. Let me explain. I have an "apt" module that takes care of setting up common apt settings and provide the basic "sources.list" for the managed hosts - debian on servers and ubuntu on desktops. I have chosen to keep the source

performance.cache-size for high-RAM clients/servers, other tweaks for performance, and improvements to Gluster docs
Hi, I'm trying to squeeze performance out of gluster on 4 80GB RAM 20-CPU machines where Gluster runs on attached block storage (Linode) in (4 replicate bricks), and so far everything I tried results in sub-optimal performance. There are many files - mostly images, several million - and many operations take minutes, copying multiple files (even if they're small) suddenly freezes up for

performance.cache-size for high-RAM clients/servers, other tweaks for performance, and improvements to Gluster docs
Hi again, I'd like to expand on the performance issues and plead for help. Here's one case which shows these odd hiccups: https://i.imgur.com/CXBPjTK.gifv. In this GIF where I switch back and forth between copy operations on 2 servers, I'm copying a 10GB dir full of .apk and image files. On server "hive" I'm copying straight from the main disk to an attached volume

you definitely need mount options to /etc/fstab use ones from here http://lists.gluster.org/pipermail/gluster-users/2018-April/033811.html I went on with using local mounts to achieve performance as well Also, 3.12 or 3.10 branches would be preferable for production On Fri, Apr 6, 2018 at 4:12 AM, Artem Russakovskii <archon810 at gmail.com> wrote: > Hi again, > > I'd like to

winbindd crashing -- how to auto-heal?
Hi folks, Every couple days any one of my project's 10 or so RHEL VMs can't be logged into with a domain account (active directory integration). Our admin goes in with a local account and restarts winbind to fix it. I'd like to be more proactive and, say, create a cron job to detect a problem and then restart winbind. Does anybody have a recipe for this? If not, do you have any

sipura over heat
I'm experiencing a very unusual problem with a few of my sipuras. They keep over heating after minimal usage. I unplug them and let them sit for 15 minutes and it starts working fine. The other way around is that I put a fan on it or something to keep it cooling. Has anyone else experienced this or are they just defective units? Regards, Mohammed Salim EZZI Telecom, Inc.

Wish I knew or was able to get detailed description of those options myself. here is direct-io-mode https://serverfault.com/questions/517775/glusterfs-direct-i-o-mode Same as you I ran tests on a large volume of files, finding that main delays are in attribute calls, ending up with those mount options to add performance. I discovered those options through basically googling this user list with

Just upgraded to cvs Head this morning and noticed our voicemail notification (via email) is failing with: Jul 1 07:48:38 WARNING[1217669936]: app_voicemail.c:837 sendmail: E-mail addres s missing for mailbox [3000]. unit testing framework for R?
In a quick search of the R website just now, I found no mention of a unit testing framework for R. I hope to find something in the style of Java's JUnit, or Python's unittest. Is such a thing available? Thanks, - Paul Shannon Institute for Systems Biology Seattle

Voice quality assessment in Asterisk
Hi, How do you typically test voice quality in Asterisk? For example if you like to do load testing, or monitor voice quality and get notified if certain calls had bad quality for proactive maintenance? Thank you! Howto: Extremely tight security rsync shell for backups
We've been using rsync since forever to back up all our servers and it's worked without a problem. But in a recent security review, we noted that our specific rsync backup host is using root keys to access the server, meaning that if the keys on the backup server were leaked/compromised in any fashion, that would provide r00t access to the servers being backed up. Since this

performance.cache-size for high-RAM clients/servers, other tweaks for performance, and improvements to Gluster docs
Hi Vlad, I'm using only localhost: mounts. Can you please explain what effect each option has on performance issues shown in my posts? "negative-timeout=10,attribute-timeout=30,fopen- keep-cache,direct-io-mode=enable,fetch-attempts=5" From what I remember, direct-io-mode=enable didn't make a difference in my tests, but I suppose I can try again. The explanations about
