OT: Online TTS engines?
The one I like: http://www.rhetorical.com/cgi-bin/demo.cgi is toast. I think they went broke or got aquired by someone. Also, is there a Festival voice that sounds as good as Rhetorical or the AT & T stuff? The default one is barely legible. Since Festival is a little brutal to configure, I'd like to get someone's recommendation then go through the pain of reconfiguring it only once.

cepstral vs festival
I'm about to begin working on an ivr project to do database backed scheduling. I would like to use text to speech in some places. What are the differences in using festival vs. Cepstral? How are they similar, how are they different? Is one really better than the other? How and Why? Thanks, Eric -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Festival Speech Synthesis 1.95:beta July 2004 Eval
Hello-- In the interests of playing around and wasting time, I've installed the latest version of the Festival stuff, 1.95beta. And, in the interests of future Asterisk-Festival connectivity, I applied the 1.4.3 patch to put in the asterisk related routines. I did it by hand, but, it looks like the patch will apply with no comment. Asterisk works with the new server... BUT the speed of

Multi-line TTS Outbound Dialer
Hello, I've been lurking around the mailing list and browsing around on Asterisk-related links while I wait for my X100P to come in the mail. So far I haven't found very much information related to what I want to do with Asterisk. I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of any work that may already have been done on a project similar to the one I'm trying to

New Adobe Reader works on CentOS-4.x, speech synthesis reader & more.
Just and FYI. In RPM form, works on 4.x and I will try on 5.x too. Speech is tacky, but if I can get something but the Gnome Festival synthesizer, maybe it will improve? http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html?promoid=BONRM -- Bill

Asterisk and Festival (* dies with no info)
Hello, I have Asterisk running on a RH9 box; Everything seems to be working as it should, except for Festival. Every time that Festival is called from Asterisk, Asterisk silently shuts down. Festival doesn't give any error indication and Asterisk just plain dies without a peep. Festival was installed per the Wiki, using source and patched with festival-1.4.3-diff; it works fine at the

How to Export COM port to guest domain
Greetings, Using Xen 3.1 and Fedora 7, is it possible to export the serial interface such that I can access external devices on COM1 or COM2? I am uncertain if PCI pass-thru is needed or if there''s nothing to configure for this to work in a fully virtualized Linux guest. Any help would be greatly appreciated. "Unable to find path from G729A to ULAW" on Sipphone.com
I seem to be having a problem with transcoding and/or agreeing on a valid codec. I am running a new image pulled from CVS at 1:30 PM CST. The issue occurs when I try to make a call to a toll-free number over sipphone.com. Here's what I see in the console: NOTICE[1259545280]: File channel.c, Line 1478 (ast_set_read_format): Unable to find a path from G729A to ULAW NOTICE[1259545280]: File

Text to Speech - Someone needs to do this
Why hasn't someone found 50 people who sound alike, put them in sound studios and record the 10,000 most commonly used words. You would all differnent forms of the 1,000 most words, i.e. leading, trailing, question etc. You can synthesize the other 0.05% when you run into them. With hard drives so big, processors so fast and EXT3 that can handle 30,000+ files in a single directory that

text2wave Voices Improvements?
I currently have an AGI that calls the Festival text2wave app to write a wav file that my dialplan plays into a call with the Background() command. But the voice sounds terrible: like SAM, the 1980s 6502 voice synthesizer. I tried to slow it down by calling (text2wav -eval "(Parameter.set 'Duration_Stretch 1.4)" -scale 2.0 [...]), but it still sounds like it's talking while

Festival and Asterisk - different voices?
Just curious to know if anyone uses Festival with * and whether or not you've got a different voice than the default. I'm looking at doing a commercial application but my boss doesn't want to shell out the $ before we do some real world testing of * and Festival. Specifically, I'm looking for a female voice, preferably US English. Any suggestions? Thanks, MC

SAPI (Speech Synthesis API)
Replace nospam with ssb22 to reply by email. Hi, Does anybody have pointers about using SAPI 5 speech synthesis engines (sometimes called a "SAPI 5 voices") under Wine? I've searched all over the Web but can't find any mention of it. Although English speech is well-supported in Linux, speech in languages like Chinese, Japanese and Korean is not. Commercial offerings are

I am trying to use festival (latest version 1.4.3) I have downloaded all the files needed and patched it with the provided diff. festival does work and does tts fine. but when I call Festival either from an extention or an AGI script, I get this in my asterisk messages log, but no sound on the channels (H323 or SIP) - they (the clients) just say "trying" and then hangup... Cepstral voices
Was hoping someone could point me in the right direction for getting the linux version of cepstral voices working with Asterisk. The cepstral site states that the voices work with asterisk, but I haven't been able to find anything with google or in the handbook on this. Thanks in advance, Bruce
