Noise with Grandstream/PSTN
Up until yesterday I've had a lot of high pitched noise when connecting a BT101 to the PSTN via the X100P. I was using an Asus A7V133 with raid motherboard and an 850 AMD Duron. Over the weekend I thought I'd try another machine. I had an HP Vectra 400 Mhz PII MMX with 128 Mb RAM available, today no noise at all. Now I must see if the Vectra is up to the job. -- Dave Cotton

problems booting isolinux
Hello List, I have used isolinux for years without problems. Recently I decided to upgrade from 3.09 to 3.11. Every CD I create can be read on my Vectra (Pentium 3) and all other Pentium 3 boxes, but all my Pentium 4 boxes will not boot (they ignore the CD and boot from hard disk). The bochs VM will boot the CDs fine just like the Pentium 3 machines. I have tried 3.09 (which worked

setup problems
Hi folks -- I'm trying to share out my home directory and one other directory from an SGI O2 running IRIX 6.3 to an HP Vectra running Win NT 4.0. I'm having some problems and would appreciate a hand. I've read the man pages, DIAGNOSIS.txt, the FAQ, and most of the other documents in the distribution. My problem is probably a simple configuration issue, but I haven't been able

Whoah! My E400P system went AWOL
Hi, I came back from a quiet weekend today and found my E400P box to have gone astray. Asterisk is loaded from inittab, and started crashing and reloading a couple of thousands of times, each time notifying my monitoring service :-P I remember there would be issues on old cvs stuff since the crash at digium so I made a clean checkout just now. Here is what happens when I load manually:

GXP-2000 Audio Quality
I have a client with about 16 GXP-2000. They complain that the audio quality is terrible after 2 or 3 simultaneous conversations. They are behind DSL 1.5Mbps down and 256Kbps up. Because they are using G711.u codec, I know they upstream bandwidth is the limiting factor and they most likely won't be able to have more than 3 simultaneous conversations, and if they're surfing the

Asterisk 1.4.20.1 with bad gsm file playback
Hi All, I'm stumped on this and I looking for some clues to fix this. This is a new install of Slackware 12.1 onto an IBM x330 Server. Asterisk 1.4.20.1 plays the wav files and the Cepstral_Allison Swift just fine, but when I play the gsm files the audio quite choppy. And, the files produced from the MixMonitor don't even record any audio other than noise. I have a hard drive from

size and quality of audio clips effect the playback??
Hi, I've been having issues with asterisk playing back recorded messages. They sound clear..but there are lots of breaks during playback (like its losing packets). I got top-end hardware and I'm on a killer network so its not that. I've talked over my SIP line using a regular telephone and it sounds great, so its not the VOIP provider. Asterisk is working great with no other

Audio Quality over LAN very bad
Hi All, I'm running Asterisk on the following vendor_id : GenuineIntel model name : Celeron (Coppermine) cpu MHz : 668.202 cache size : 128 KB with 192 MB Ram Audio coming from Asterisk (the demo ) is excellent when using a SIP phone on the LAN to Asterisk, and when dialling in from outside via ISDN to Asterisk. However, when connecting from SIP phone to SIP

Poll - Would you pay $30-$50 for high quality speech synthesis?
Many of you are familiar with how lousy Festival sounds. AT&T has a product, NaturalVoices, that sounds much better. There are male & female voice fonts for US/UK/Indian English, French, Spanish, and German. I am considering offering a linux-based text-to-speech engine based on the NaturalVoices runtime. An asterisk module would also be provided, making it easy to add natural sounding

optimization to libao audio output autodetection code
Ok, this patch replaces the old patch I sent, and it does a bit more. For one, it sorts the linked list of drivers based on the priority values, highest valued ones coming first. That allows the _find_default_driver_id code to stop looping (break) immediately when it finds a driver that works, because it already knows it's the working driver with the highest priority (what it normally

Terrible inbound call quality vs. outbound
Hi. I'm having a terrible time with call quality coming into my * box. I'm using VoicePulse over a 1.5/1.5 mbit line. Outbound calls are crystal clear on both the RX/TX sides of the conversation. Inbound calls, though, are HORRIBLY garbled on the RX side. I can barely hear the caller, but they report my quality is fine. Getting loads of garbled sounds and weird echoes. (Could just be

Weird 'hairpin' call rtp audio problem
Hello List Asterisk 13.14.1 in use with pjsip stack. On the remote side is a SBC which performs some 'nat' detection. I suppose this means the SBC listens from where it is getting RTP data and then replies to that ip. As long as the asterisk is initiating the call this is fine, the asterisk start sending RTP to the media IP of the SBC and the SBC is sending media back. Now I want to do

Caller id and callback
Is there a way to append a 91 in front of all incoming caller id numbers? What I am interested in is this - when a call comes in and the caller ID comes across, it is in the format 9165551212. That would be fine, but if I want to call them right back, and I choose that call and 'dial' on my phone, it fails because it hasn't dialed a 9 first. I assume also that if there was a 9, it

SECURITY QUESTION & SANITY CHECK
SECURITY QUESTION & SANITY CHECK: If only my SIP ports and a small range of RTP ports are facing the public internet, what is the method by which an evildoer would be able to do fraudulent long distance on my nickel? Would it REALLY be as simple as guessing the credentials for ANY of my local sip endpoints? Like most people, my local endpoint credentials would be easy to guess: Username

New Module app_perl
I just made my first 2 modules for asterisk (The 1st one is depriciated already). I was annoyed that i couldn't get GotoIf to take any expressions besides a boolean then i made a module to mimic gotoif and parse a few expressions like (${var} > 12) exten => 1,1,gotoif_expr,${var} > 12:1|4:1|5 Then I immediatly obseleted it with this new embedded perl module that lets you

Booting CentOS with LILO?
Hello all! I would like to know if is possible to use LILO as the boot loader instead of the default GRUB. My question comes because I tried to run lilo command but the message "command not found" appear. It sounds like my only boot loader option in CentOS is GRUB ??. I found lilo.conf.anaconda, but not the lilo command. From already thanks. Regards, Juan P. Espino

why was LILO removed from centOS 4.2?
I can't choose LILO as boot loader anymore in the install process? And what is the advantages in GRUP vs. LILO that are so great that LILO has been deleted all together? One big disadvantages when forced to use GRUB is that it is a hassle to make the disks in a RAID1 bootable. https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2005-March/msg05935.html and RAID1 seems pretty useless when it is the

keytab-lilo included with SYSLINUX is not up to date
Hi, I just noticed that the keytab-lilo utility included with SYSLINUX isn't up to date. It *is* a problem since the old version isn't compatible with current distributions like Debian ou Ubuntu (for example). Two options are offered to those who would like to use keytab-lilo in order to generate a file compatible with the KBDMAP directive : - use an up to date version of keytab-lilo
