nmblookup can't resolve IPs (but SMB-names)
Hi there, i have Samba 2.2.7a running on FreeBSD-STABLE 4.7. I set up a few things and smbd and nmbd start up at boot, i can browse the net. However, nmblookup can only find IPs by SMB-names, but not SMB-names by IPs. Here is an example output of the failed lookup: %nmblookup -d 3 210.104.1.133 Initialising global parameters params.c:pm_process() - Processing configuration file

domain users in local groups with Winbind/Samba/Redhat
Hi, I am running a Samba 2.2.7a on Redhat 7.3 in a NT domain. For authentication I am using the domainusers. This is done by Winbind 2.2.7a which verifies the existens of the users on the PDC. So I dont't have to create local users (/etc/passwd) for users who want to connect to the shares in the smb.conf. I authorise them by adding valid users = domain+domainuser to the smb.conf. This works

VIM Syntax Highlighting
Has anyone got vim to have syntax highlighting with R function codes? I know there's something similar that works with emacs (ESS or something like that), but I was wondering if anyone knew an equivalent that worked with vim. Jails and multihoming
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 All, are there any plans to allow FreeBSD jails to bind to more than one IP address? My scenario (virtual hosting) : 3 front-end hosts with 2 interfaces each, one on the public network, the other on a private subnet. 1 back-end host, providing NFS mounts for the front-ends. Off Subject
Pardon me for asking this general question with regards to Samba but I've been searching and haven't found a source that would answer my question. Is there some site, list, etc, that lists companies, schools, etc, who have volunteered information that they use Samba in their day-to-day operations? This would be of great interest to us as it would show Linux/Samba to be a viable

add user script & samba 3.0b
Howdy, I would like to use the samba server as a replacment for NT Servers. So I need the add user script command for adding new machines to the domain. This is no problem in all 2.2.X versions of samba which I used. But on version 3.0 alpha and beta it is not working. I am using debian 3.0r1 with the unstable package of samba 3.0beta. smb.conf: [global] workgroup = unreal server string

W2k client with AD can't access linux-Samba 2.2.1a
Hello List, I need help to access my private linux box using my company laptop (w2k). The smb connection between both computers worked fine for the last years. Error "Could not fetch trust account password" in Samba 3 Beta..what do I need to do?
Specifics samba-3.0.0beta1-1.i386.rpm on RedHat 9 and smbpasswd authentication, the machine is the PDC and security is set for user. The machine account was setup on the fly and it appears in passwd, shadow, and smbpasswd files as it should. However it seemed to take a very long time to join the domain, about 1-1/2 minutes. I can browse the Samba PDC machine and access the shares, etc. After
