Theil test help
Hello, I have a series of questions that I hope will be simple to answer. Basically I would like a code to do the following so that I can compute the distribution free test for the slope of a postulated regression line (Theil test). As I am testing the null hypothesis that slope = 0 against the general alternative the slope does not equal 0, it should be pretty straight-forward. I have a data

help speeding up simple Theil regression function
Hello, I am working on a simple non-parametric (Theil) regression function and and am following Hollander and Wolfe 1999 text. I would like some help making my function faster. I have compared with pre-packaged version from "MBLM", which isnt very fast either, but it appears mine is faster with N = 1000 (see results below). I plan on running this function repeatedly, and I generally

Theil Kendall line as fit?
I found some code to compute a Kendall-Theil slope estimate and want to add it to a scatter plot. Is there a way to make it appear like a regression fit instead of a line that extends from the edges of the plot? I would like to have the OLS appear as a dotted line and the KT a solid line but as it is the KT line is longer. -- View this message in context:

question on simple graph
I am having trouble generating a graph. I want to know the % of respondents who answered that they "strongly agree" or "agree" the "America owes R's ethnic group a better chance" (BTTRCHNC) and I want to organize it by racial group (RACESHRT). "BTTRCHNC" is organized ordinally from 1 through 5 with 1=Strongly Agree, 5=Strongly Disagree

Writing R Extensions : A new R package for Gini Index decomposition to prupose
Dear All, I have developed a programme the anable the decomposition of the Gini index, it complets tha valuable work of Achim Zeileis, the author of the ineq package. I would like to make it to be part of all R package. How should I proceed. Must I sent it to the the Core developement team ? The proogramme is written in R. Many thanks for your advice, Best regards, Souleymane

Function Gini or Ineq
Hi listers, Does it necessary to install any package in order to use the GINI or INEQ functions. If I use the following command the R tells me that didn't find the GINI function. x<-c(541, 1463, 2445, 3438, 4437, 5401, 6392, 8304, 11904, 22261) G<-gini(x) Thanks in advance, Marcio -- View this message in context:

FreeBSD: Changing UNIX password - Password Chat?
I can't get my Samba PDC (FreeBSD 7,0-BETA3) changing UNIX passwords from Windows clients (Ctrl-Alt-Del). I now have the password chat debug active and I have loglevel 100. I am not certain about the syntax in the password chat. But if I from a console try to change the password of a given user (here testuser1), I see these lines: mflserver3# /usr/bin/passwd testuser1 Changing local password

Problems with randomForest for regression
Dear list, I am trying to do a benchmark study for my case study. It is a regression problem. Among other models I use randomForest. Using the following code the result is around 0.628, and this make sense comparing with other methods. The Theil function implements Theil's U statistic. I do not present the definition of some variables because it is not important to understand my problem.

Gini coefficient in R
If I use the Ineq library and the Gini function in this way: >Gini(c(100,0,0,0)) I obtain the result 0.75 instead of 1 (that is the perfect inequality). I think Gini's formula in Ineq is based on a formula as reported here: http://mathworld.wolfram.com/GiniCoefficient.html but in the case of perfect inequality: x_1=.......=x_n-1 =0 x_n>0 these formula are equal to 1 - 1/n, not to

FreeBSD: Changing UNIX passwords from Windows
Hello We have a FreeBSD server (7.0 BETA3) running as PDC (Samba 3.0.28) passwords stored in tdbsam. But I cannot make a working configuration which allows users to change their own passwords on the server. They are told something like "You do not

Std Err on Concentration measures
Hi, I'm using the ineq package to calculate some concentration measures (Gini, Herfindal, ...) and I was wondering if there's around also a function to calculate standard error on these measures. If not, is anybody aware of where I can find a reference on this point? Thanks. -- ======================================================== Angelo Secchi PGP Key ID:EA280337

Gini with frequencies
Hi there, I am trying to compute Gini coefficients for vectors containing income classes. The data I possess look loke this: yit <- c(135, 164, 234, 369) piit <- c(367, 884, 341, 74 ) where yit is the vector of income classes, and fit is the vector of associated frequencies.(This data is from Rustichini, Ichino and Checci (Journal of Public Economics, 1999) ). In ineq pacakge, Gini( )

Source of chickwts data
I'm not sure if this is the right mailing list. My apologies if I'm sending the question to the wrong mailing list. (The r-packages list moderator suggested using the R-help list.) My question is about the "chickwts" data in the datasets package. According to help(chickwts), the source of the data is ?Anonymous (1948) Biometrika, 35, 214. But this reference seems irrelevant.

VPN server and logon to Samba PDC

Componentwise means of a list of matrices?
Dear useRs, I have a list, each entry of which is a matrix of constant dimensions. Is there a good way (i.e., not using a for loop) to apply a mean to each matrix entry *across list entries*? Example: foo <- list(rbind(c(1,2,3),c(4,5,6)),rbind(c(7,8,9),c(10,11,12))) some.sort.of.apply(foo,FUN=mean) I'm looking for a componentwise mean across the two entries of foo, i.e., the

WinBUGS14 and R
I'm trying to call BUGS from R. But it's not working. R freezes up and BUGS gives me a strange output in the log. Just to know, BUGS is registered. The modified date on the keys file is today (Dec. 9th). It should be fully registered so that I can use it fully. And, the BUGS model is syntactically correct. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Here is my BUGS model: model {
