RSpec 1.1.0 (Rails) --- Supported Rails Versions?
Hi Just a quick question .... what backward versions of Rails will the 1.1.0 versions of RSpec and Spec::Rails support? I think I maybe under the (incorrect) impression that I had to go to Rails 2.0 for 1.1.0 Cheers Shane Shane Mingins ELC Technologies (TM) 1921 State Street Santa Barbara, CA 93101 Phone: +64 4 568 6684 Mobile: +64 21 435 586 Email: smingins at elctech.com AIM:

Lib Specs and config.use_transactional_fixtures = true
Hi We have specs in our rails project other than model/view/controller .. we have interests and lib ... using use_transactional_fixtures = true seems fine in a spec in the m/ v/c and interests directories but not in lib Just wondered if anyone had any quick thoughts as to why that may be??? Mocking Workers in Backgroundrb
Hi Has anyone mocked a call like the following for backgroundrb? MiddleMan.new_worker(:class => :admin_email_worker, :args => params [:email]) I cannot seem to find the correct manner to do it. Would have liked to be able to do MiddleMan.should_receive (:new_worker).with(:class => :admin_email_worker, :args => {"body" => "my message"}) Cheers Shane

When you sometimes wonder how to test this??
Hi Just something that I have been finding very helpful sometimes when I am stuck with "how could I test this?" moments is looking at the Rails test suite. At the moment I am working on testing our custom error_messages_for methods and I have found looking at how the Rails tests in active_record_helper work helpful :-) So just thought I''d share that. 1.05 to 1.08
Hi We are looking at moving a project over from 1.05 to 1.08 but have a problem with some of our helper specs They work fine in 1.05 but error in 1.08 and it is the calls to route helper methods that seems to be the problem. I did some playing around .. because the code being tested is reasonably large etc ... but this sample (using the peepcode app) seems to boil down the problem

Rendering a view and passing a variable
Hello all, I have a view which display html based on the value of a variable. Here''s the code : <% if @language == ''e'' %> <%= link_to "Français", :action => :index, :id => "f" %> <% end %> In my test, I''m trying to set the value of the variable first, but that just doesn''t seem to work : it

alias_method_chain and ActiveSupport::TestCase
I''m trying to add some functionality to the setup method of all my tests. I added a method called setup_with_ts in the test_helper and chained it using alias_method_chain :setup, :ts and that works great for every test that does not define setup in the test. So for my unit tests i tried also defining the same method setup_with_ts in a class ActiveSupport::TestCase def setup_with_ts

Testing create in Rails controller
Hi All So I am a first-time caller ;-) ... and have been trying to apply RSpec to the depot example in Dave Thomas'' book as I build the application. I am having a problem testing the admin controller create method and cannot quite see where I am going wrong so was hoping for a pointer :-) My spec looks like: describe AdminController do before(:each) do @product =

alias_method_chain vs. redefined method with super
I''m trying to fully understand the subtleties of using alias_method_chain to refine method behavior versus redefining a method and calling super. I have a simple data model (a music collection) that I often use to evaluate web frameworks, and I''m trying to get it working on Rails 1.2.0RC1. Specifically, I have three classes which subclass a common Artist class: - Band

Un-recognised routes that do exist, using namespaces & subdomain checking
I''m getting really cheesed off with RSpec not matching some of my routes when controller testing when I have subdomain checking (courtesy of subdomain-fu) on namespaces. These routes appear in the rake routes output, and work fine via HTTP requests . The really annoying thing is it''s working fine for routes that aren''t at the root of the namespace. E.g. say I have

more questions: human_name
One more question: Is there some way to set the human_name of a column? e.g.: human_name for column address1 shouldn''t be Address1 but "Address, line 1". If not, should I make a hash with my custom names? How to extend a helper using plugin?
Hello, I''m facing this problem while trying to extend the parse_redmine_links helper method in Redmine-1.1.0 (Rails-2.3.5) from my plugin. My idea is to use alias_method_chain so the extended version could call the original version and adjust the result to it''s liking. Anything I''ve tried so far exposes this behavior: the first render of a page uses the extended

Eager Loading
is there a way to always eagerly load an associated object so that you don''t have to put :include into every finder? class Product <ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user #always load user when product is loaded end Product.find(1).user.login #1 query since user was loaded with the product, same as if i used :include but I don''t want to have to specify it everywhere.

AutoTest / Rspec - "stack level too deep"
Hello, I''m running AutoTest with Rspec on a Rails application. Every 20 or so runs I get "stack level too deep" on one particular controller stub. Ex. controller.stub!(:login).and_return(true) This particular line is in a before block of a certain describe block. The strange thing is, every single spec in this file fails on that one line, even the specs in other describe

Autotest with RSpec Rails and Engines
Hi We have a Rails project using an engine which I want to run autotest with rspec against. So the project specific specs are in the specs directory but the common specs are in the specs directory of the engine plugin (e.g. vendor/plugin/engine/specs) Just wondering where I would be looking to change configuration so that autotest will also look for the specs in the engine directory?
