possible TZ bug in parseISO8601 - "Error in if (length(c(year, month, day, hour, min, sec)) == 6 && c(year, : [...]"
Hey all, Virgin post to this list - hope I've got it right ;o) I've been learning R intensively the last two weeks and gone from newbie status to *reasonably* comfortable with it. Here's an issue I just cannot solve however as it appears to be some kind of bug in R itself. But I won't claim that for sure. I have a function as follows: FindHighRow <- function(searchVector,

lapply and Two TimeStamps as input
Dear all, I have a function that recognizes the following format for timestamps "%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S" my function takes two input arguments the TimeStart and TimeEnd I would like to help me create the right list with pairs of TimeStart and TimeEnd which I can feed to lapply (I am using mclapply actually).  For every lapply I want two inputs to be fed to my function. I only know how to

How to find series of small numbers in a big vector?
Hello: I have a vector with 120,000 reals between 0.00000 and 0.9999 They are not sorted but the vector index is the time-order of my measurements, and therefore cannot be lost. How do I use R to find the starting and ending index of ANY and ALL the "series" or "sequences" in that vector where ever there are 5 or more members in a row between 0.021 and 0.029 ? For

RCurl and postForm()
Hi everybody, I think that I am missing something fundamental in how strings are passed from a postForm() call in R to the curl or libcurl functions underneath. For example, I can do the following using curl from the command line: $ curl -d "Archbishop Huxley" "http://www.datasciencetoolkit.org/text2people"

find_vqs operation starting at arbitrary index
Hello, The recent find_vqs operation doesn't allow for a vq to be found at an arbitrary location; it's meant to be called once at startup to find all possible queues and never called again. This doesn't work for devices which can have queues hot-plugged at run-time. This can be made to work by passing the 'start_index' value as was done earlier for find_vq, but I doubt

Using Nokogiri to insert a <span> tag into existing text
All, I''m using Nokogiri to handle the following problem: I have a piece of HTML, and for certain text nodes, I need to insert <span> tags into the text of these nodes at a certain place. What I am doing is finding the place where I want to insert the <span>, let''s say index X of the text node''s text, and doing the following: 1) Setting the node''s

test_metaflac fails in make check for flac 1.1.2 after --add-padding is performed
Josh, I applied this patch and all the "make check" tests passed (but I do not have valgrind and I did not use --enable-exhaustive-tests during configure, so it isn't all the tests). Do you see anything suspicious about it? --- flac-1.1.2.oldBuild/src/flac/decode.c 2005-01-24 20:13:46.000000000 -0800 +++ flac-1.1.2/src/flac/decode.c 2006-09-06 23:36:26.000000000 -0700

mean(x) for ALTREP
Hi, By looking at a doc about ALTREP https://svn.r-project.org/R/branches/ALTREP/ALTREP.html (by the way congratulations for that and for R-3.5.0 in general), I was a little bit surprised by the following example: > x <- 1:1e10 > system.time(print(mean(x))) [1] 5e+09 ?? user? system elapsed ?38.520?? 0.008? 38.531 Taking 38.520 s to calculate a mean value of an arithmetic

Oracle on ZFS vs. UFS
Hi, I''m preparing a personal TPC-H benchmark. The goal is not to measure or optimize the database performance, but to compare ZFS to UFS in similar configurations. At the moment I''m preparing the tests at home. The test setup is as follows: . Solaris snv_37 . 2 x AMD Opteron 252 . 4 GB RAM . 2 x 80 GB ST380817AS . Oracle 10gR2 (small SGA (320m)) The disks also contain the OS
