CentOS4 Loop at shutdown
Has anyone else encountered a loop and failure to shutdown on CentOS4? This has occurred twice in the past month, but unfortunately I failed to write down the looping messages. The only relevant problems I found via Google reference raid controllers, and I have POI (plain ol' IDE). Doh! Obviously I wuill need to record the errors. My environment is run-level 5 with GDM, but I use IceWm

RHEL Un question
Please excuse my ignorance, since I have not used any RedHat (enterprise or otherwise) until Fedora FC3 (a few weeks) and now CentOS4 (permanently). I keep finding references to Un (I believe it's up to U5 now) in references to bugfixes, etc for RHEL. I presume (?) these are dot releases after the initial release? Is there anything equivalent for CentOS, or is this RedHat only behavior? TIA,

Postgresql 8.1.x on CentOS 3.6
Hello everyone, Does anyone know if there are any Postgresql 8.1.3 RPMs for CentOS 3.6? I've looked at the Postgresql website but I couldn't find anything under RHEL3/CentOS3. I've tried installing the RHEL4 RPMs which seem to work. Unfortunately, I'm getting errors whenever I try to compile PHP5 from source. Thanks and Best Regards, Matt -- Stand before it and there is no

shuffling a vector
Hi, I'me trying to write a function that will shuffle a vector. At the moment I'm baically making a vector of randomized indices and then making a new vector from the original one using these random indices. However, is there an alternative (more elegant) method to do this? I tried help.search('shuffle') but it does'nt return anything relevant. Thanks,

intel dual core processors and new kernel packages
I've just got bunch of RHEL4 erratas (looks like U2 is out). Looking at the kernel errata (kernel-2.6.9-22.EL), one of the things in list of new features is "Intel dual core support". What does this exactly means? Does it mean if I have dual core pentium processor and use older kernel that it will use only one core, and I need newer kernel to use both cores? Or is it only

Whereis yum-rhn-plugin package?
Hi all, I need to setup a repo server to allocate updates for RHEL3, RHEL4, RHEL5 and CentOS5. Apart of mrrepo tool, I see that I can use reposync from yum-utils package and yum-rhn-plugin package to setup a mirror update server. But I can't to find yum-rhn-plugin under centos5 repo. Where is it?? Or I need to use package released from upstream vendor?? Thanks -- CL Martinez

Yum problem CentOS 3.3?
I''m still using CentOS 3.3 as our install mechanism, then adding some packages from a tarball of RPMs we need. Then I run # yum update yum which sometimes takes a while. Yesterday it took many hours. I like to run these from behind a firewall in our office before taking the server to the datacenter, but the delay meant a whole day''s delay in our trip to the datacenter

CentOS5 and samba
We're trying to migrate RHEL3 and CentOS4 based samba servers over to CentOS5, but it's a bleeding disaster. We cannot get it to work reliably with any version of CentOS5, i386 or x86_64, the included 3.0.x version of samba or 3.4.x/3.5.x compiled from source. The symptoms are: read access is extremely slow, write access seems to work in principle (e.g. creating a zeros-sized file on

Kernel 2.4 and Centos4
Hi, Has anyone used a 2.4 series kernel on RHEL4/Centos4? There's a patch (openmosix) which I would really like to make use of [seeing as I just got 10 diskless computers...] which is not ready (yet) for the 2.6 kernel series... Can I just drop in a 2.4.26 series kernel and continue to have a working system? Or is RHEL now totally dependent on 2.6 kernel features? Cheers, MaZe.

unable to write files bigger than 4GB over NFS
This may not be a CentOS problem, because I'm in a mixed environment. But I put it out in case anybody has any thoughts. I recently replaced a file server, which was on a Pentium III based system running 32-bit CentOS 4.3, with an Opteron based system running Fedora 4. The NFS clients are all CentOS 4.3, some are 32 bit and some are 64 bit. Since the replacement, when I try to write

CentOS4 laptop touchpad erratic operation
I've just put up CentOS4 on my HP ze4630us laptop, and the installation produced only two problems of note, both related to X operations. 1. The installer refused to allow 1024x768 resoultion for the screen. After install, manually setting the resolution in xorg.conf was no problem. 2. Erratic touchpad operation. This unit has a synaptic touchpad. I've also noted similar problems on my

wifi cluelessness
The nice folks at work have just provided me with a new, really spiffy, ThinkPad. So, I''m trying to get wireless working under CentOS4 and I''m having trouble. First, I can''t seem to find any rpms to just install (this would be really nice). And, second, when I try to build it from the src.rpm that I pulled from the atrpms repository with "rpmbuild --recompile

dual head on laptop
I am trying to use the system-config-display utility to setup a laptop for dual-heal. I want my LCD to be 1024x768 and external VGA to be 1366x768. I presume the LCD will go virtual or something to match the 1366x768 which is fine. When I am setting up the dual head and click OK nothing happens??? On the console I have something about
