Gang,
I've got to admit, what really sold me on debian was apt-get. And
I've been resisting getting up to speed with yum. So, can any of ya
point me to a good starter page, maybe one with migrators like me in
mind? Many thanks.

how to list variables enclosed in an environment
I'm having trouble with a Bioconductor package, an variable expected in an
environment does not seem to be there. As part of my investigation of the
problem (most likely on my end) I'd like to list the variables contained in
an environment. If you have an environment loaded, lets call it "pkgEnv',
how does one find what it does contain? Mark

I'm not sure how much logspam this patch will generate, so I'm going to
run with it for a little while.

Meetme codec translation and callerID library.
Can Meetme be made to work with G.729? (I gather not)
If a call comes in (internally or externally), the call comes in as a
G.729 call, which then re-negotiates to a G.711u call when if gets
transferred to a MeetMe room.
Is there a way to set up asterisk that will allow me to have internal
phones renegotiate to G.711, with the external lines instead transcoding
within asterisk.

Missing folders inside huge folders catalog.
Hi,
I get into the problem with samba ( Version 4.8.3-Debian ). Don't know how to troubleshoot it.
The test scenario #1:
Creating 5000 folders inside Linux server: #for i in {001..5000}; do mkdir $i; done;
All catalogs are showing in Windows OS.
All catalogs are showing in Linux OS.
The test scenario #2:
Creating 10000 folders inside Linux server: #for i in {001..10000}; do mkdir $i;

plotmath vector problem; full program enclosed
Here's another example of my plotmath whipping boy, the Normal distribution.
A colleague asks for a Normal plotted above a series of axes that
represent various other distributions (T, etc).
I want to use vectors of equations in plotmath to do this, but have
run into trouble. Now I've isolated the problem down to a relatively
small piece of working example code (below). If you would

IO: streaming input data
Hello -
I need to read in some tables that are embedded within data files like this:
line 1
line 2
data table
01000
10110
00011
end table
line 3
line 4
Is there any way to read just the data by telling an input device to start
reading when it encounters the keyword "data table" and stop reading at "end
table"?
Thanks in advance,
Jesse

Factors? I think?
First of all, let me apologize, as this is probably an absurdly basic
question. I did search before asking, but perhaps my ineptitude didn't allow
me to apply what I read to what I'm doing. Totally new to R, and haven't
done any code in any language in a long time.
Basically I've got categories. They're department codes for doctors (say,

I found that the following is always checking the last ''things'' button

Animals:<%= radio_button_tag("query", "table", "A") %>

Ugh.
With MAKE_KERBEROS5=yes, on a recent STABLE,

Assigning has_many child in parent creation question
If I have...

record with the parent''s id.
child = Child.new
Parent.create(:children => [child])

active_model_serializers, more than one level deep of associations, specifying serializers per association
I am assuming this an appropriate place to discuss this, but if it isn''t my
apologies- just let me know. Just a Rails 4-ish thing.
Am attempting to pull AMS (active_model_serializers), strong_parameters,
and the "permitter" strategy that Adam Hawkins is using:

Code so far is here (in the
