Courier migration and vpopmail with dovecot-lda
I've been using Dovecot in some fresh installs lately and have found
it fairly easy to configure. However I'm starting on a migration
that involves moving from some very old software (ancient vpopmail,
qmail and Courier).
On the Courier front, I've reviewed the migration page in the wiki,
and it looks like the main concerns are just matching the namespace
and then using the migration

Shared namespaces
Hi all,
I'm trying to replace the "Public Folders" functionality in Exchange server. At first I thought it'd be something easily do-able with an IMAP server so I immediately thought of Dovecot. I setup what I though would work and things started to go a little screwy with subscription settings and the like.
I started off by making a public maildir folder (in

thunderbird and subscriptions with sieve
Hi All,
I'm a newbie trying to move mail out of my ISP onto a ubuntu (lucid) dovecot
1.2.9 server.
Is there any way to automatically add folders created by sieve
(GNU Mailutils 2.1) to the subscriptions file for a user?
I'm currently testing spam, and if sieve created the folder with the first
message, the thunderbird user does not see the new folder.
Even more interesting, if the user

Feature request: don't allow subscriptions to deleted mail boxes
Hello,
Due to Thunderbird's mailbox deletion problem I was able to remove a
mailbox while keeping the subscription. This was hugely annoying as
Thunderbird is totally incapable of removing the subscription, even
though the mailbox is long gone. It took me a while before I found a
work around: I had to actually log in and remove a line from the
.subscriptions file. You will probably get

dovecot? putting wrong seperator in subscriptions file
My config has folders show up in the root namespace as well as
hidden ones like mail/ for compat. In thunderbird when I set the
namespace prefix to mail/, I effectively cannot subscribe to folders.
You can pull up the folder list, select some folders to subscribe to,
hit okay, and nothing changes in thunderbird:
3 subscribe "mail/Spam"
3 OK Subscribe completed.

subscription to mail folders not working properly anymore with dovecot1.0x ?
Hi
we run dovecot on sun solaris 9. I try to switch from dovecot 0.99.11
to dovecot 1.0, with ssl support turned on.
The user's mail are stored in mbox format in Mail in their home dirs.
I was not able to get the subscrition working properly with the new
dovecot. New means: 1.0beta2 and now also 1.0.RC1 (beta9)
The client mailreaders are mainly thunderbird 1.0x and 1.5.x, Netscape

Public Mailbox & ACLs
Hi,
I'm having a problem I can't get my head around. I'm trying to setup a
public mailbox that is hidden from all users unless granted access through
an ACL.
My folder structure is (migrated from a Courier IMAP/Qmail server):
/var/spool/maildir - main public folder (contains a few .qmail files to
redirect mail to the correct subfolder)
/var/spool/maildir/Support - support public

Subscription File
I had a use lose 20 folders on their mail account. I was able to pull
them back from a restore and dumped them all back on the server in her
Maildir. The problem is she doesn't see them on her Thunderbird or
Outlook client. I checked to make sure I put them back into the
correct directory and I did as well as verify permissions aren't
weird. I then noticed a file called

.mailboxlist -> .subscriptions
I've mostly finished a conversion from an old Centos 3 UW-Imap server to
a new Centos 6 dovecot server. I did not copy the old ~/.mailboxlist
file to ~/mail/.subscriptions file, but notice some users have the
latter file now. These are all mbox folders on the old and new server.
I'm getting ready to do the same to another old/new pair of servers and
I'm wondering if there is an

public folder subscriptions sync issue with ldap user/group in dovecot-acl
Hello people,
I am having an issue with 'doveadm sync'. I am currently trying to have
two dovecots behind an haproxy (works fine). Therefore I configured
these two dovecot server (imap-1/imap-2) to sync throught dsync. This
works just partly. The sync of the maiboxes is fine, but the sync of the
subscriptions file just works partly. It works for private folder
subscription, but not

Has_many :through with checkboxes?
Just when I started getting the hang of has_and_belongs_to_many
relationships, I realize that I should probably convert several of my
app''s joins to has_many :through type relationships.
One example, pairing users with categories via subscriptions, where
each user can be the "owner" of a category, has given me particular
trouble when I try to update a user''s

No status for INBOX/* in mbox NS (2.1.6)
Maybe it's fixed, but the last "interesting" text in the Changelog was
before 2.1.6.
Most of our users still have mboxes in the classical layout, so you
can't have subfolders and messages in the same folder, *except for the
INBOX*, as it is physically separate.
Someone complained that he saw subfolders in roundcube he couldn't
delete, because they didn't show up in the

Does Dovecot allow different clients to subscribe different subsets of IMAP folders?
I have a working Dovecot IMAP server (v. 2.2.9) where I have a single
user but a lot of folders (over 800 in total, hierarchically arranged,
about 50 of which are in active use.)
I have multiple clients (including k9Mail on Android and Thunderbird on
Linux and Windows). These clients all present a consistent subscription
to a single subset of the available folders .

Bug: subscriptions file
Sorry for top posting, my client is still broken.
I have never seen the ghost of a "system-alerts" or similar "well-known" mail folder in the past 30 years.
Compliance with an RFC obscure feature is compellong us all to clear subscriptions fol ders by hand.
As we meet the problem over and over again, a non-RFC configuration option could solve the problem, and it would be

Hello again:
I''m hoping that somebody, anybody, can help with this question.
How do I make sure that records in a join model are unique?

Subscription to folders and subscription file
Hello,
I'm using dovecot 1.0.7 and have a problem with subscription files.
The documentation says that this file ("subscriptions" or ".subscriptions"
in the root of the maildir, I've tried both) holds the informations about
the subscribed folders.
I've created such a file with these lines:
Trash
Sent
Drafts
INBOX.prova
INBOX.prova4
