zlib plugin
Good evening, folks, Well, here at least. ;) I recently found out by accident about support for gzip compressed mbox files. While this is great for archives to keep wasting of space down to a minimum, unfortunately it is read only -- no support for rw access. Is implementing write access by any chance planned for future releases? Now for the spoiler. :) I mentioned, I found out about this

alpha4 and zlib-plugin?
Hi, I saw the zlib-plugin reference in the alpha4 ChangeLog notes are searched the list for info about it. The only reference I found was from Timo back in March 2005. Questions: 1) Is this going to become a standard part of version 1.0? 2) Any plans or ability to make it read/write to a gzipped mailbox, or is this possible? Or will it always be read-only? 3) How does a mailbox get gzipped?

Security hole #3: zlib plugin allows opening any gziped mboxes
zlib plugin allows opening gzipped mboxes as read-only mailboxes. However when using it, the mailbox name checks are bypassed so it's possible to open for example "../otheruser/somefile.gz". Only valid gzipped mbox files can be opened, and only if their name ends with ".gz". You can fix this by upgrading to v1.0.rc29 (available soon) or with this patch:

Recovering expunged but not purged e-mails from mdbox with zlib compression
You can use mdbox_deleted driver to access mails with refcount 0. Trouble getting lda to gzip incomming mails (zlib plugin)
Hi! I've followed the guide at http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Zlib to try to make Dovecot gzip incomming mails, but it doesn't seem to work. I've made pop/imap read gzipped files, and this seems to work perfectly, but LDA is still saving incomming mails in plain text. There's not too much information out there regarding the zlib module, so I'm not sure where to start

1.2.15 can't get zlib working
Following these instructions: http://wiki.dovecot.org/Plugins/Zlib I enabled zlib and restarted Dovecot. I made a backup copy of a 68MB mbox file and moved it to a non mail directory. The mbox file is an existing TBird IMAP folder in my UNIX user mail directory. It is an archive of a defunct mailing list. It was a regular IMAP folder prior to attempting this. I was able to access all emails

zlib plugin weirdness
Hello, I'm trying to get the zlib plugin working on my 2.0 server. I started with an mbox that Dovecot can read just fine. Then I gzipped it, and now Dovecot complains that it's corrupted: Error: Next message unexpectedly corrupted in mbox file /var/lib/vpopmail/domains/memoryhole.net/kyle/Maildir/Archive/Intellego.gz at 1907 Error: Unexpectedly lost From-line from

zlib plugin doesn't add "Z" flag to Maildir filename
I enabled zlib compression, so new mails are saved compressed. Now I want to convert the old mails to gzip with the find and gzip command, but now I don't know which files are already gzip compressed by dovecot. Shouldn't zlib_save itself add Z to the Maildir flags? As suggested in the compress guide on http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Zlib ? -- Tom

zlib plugin nad moving mails, bug?
Hi, Recently I gzipped mails older than 30 days in our users' maildirs. I used find and gzip. Gzip added 'Z' at the end of the filename and everything seemed to work fine, users did not notice any difference in performance (yet :-), and I saved about 30% of our mail storage space. There seems to be a problem when moving gzipped messages from one folder to another though. Dovecot

Zlib plugin - when does it make sense?
Hi, I run a small IMAP server for a dozen guys in the office, serving about 55GB of Maildir. I recently became aware of the Zlib plugin ( http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Zlib ) and wondered 1. given that there is about zero CPU load on my IMAP server, is enabling the plugin a no-brainer or are there other things (except CPU load) to consider? 2. For enabling the plugin, I suppose you

Zlib plugin: Compress emails for one folder only
Hello everyone, Is it possible to configure the zlib plugin to compress the emails in one folder only? I would like to compress the emails when they are stored in my 'Archives' folders and sub folders. Thanks, Andr? Rodier.

questions regarding zlib plugin
Hi, faced with a current space problem on our dovecot 2.2.18 server, I thought about using the zlib plugin. My questions: - is it really as simple as adding the options to the conf files as described in the docs :) ? http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Zlib - As this just compresses new messages; dose anybody has a sort of simple cron or whatever script or best practice how to compress existing
