Acrobat Reader 9 on Centos 4.7
Hello, Anyone know how to get Acrobat 9 running* on Centos 4.7? Looks like a libc conflict: /Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/bin/acroread: error while loading shared \ libraries: /apps/Adobe/Reader9_libs/libstdc++.so.6: requires glibc 2.5 or later dynamic linker Thanks Thomas [*] - http://www.us-cert.gov/cas/techalerts/TA09-051A.html -- Flambeau Inc. acrobat reader for x86_64?
Adobe doesn't seem to have acroread for x86_64 linux, or at least I don't see it anywhere. Anybody know otherwise? Evince and other tools work pretty well, but I have always liked having the "real thing" around for those occasions when they don't. -- ---- Fred Smith -- fredex at fcshome.stoneham.ma.us ----------------------------- I can do all

Acrobat Reader version for CentOS 3?
Having had a working version of Acrobat Reader, I upgraded to 7.0.5 a couple of days ago (without backing up the previous install, of course). Unfortunately, the acroread command fails with: GTK+ UI Toolkit libraries, ver. 2.4 or greater were not found. The (CentOS 3) standard libraries for gtk+ etc. are installed. Anyone know what is the most recent compatible version of Acrobat Reader for

Acrobat Reader broken on CentOS 4.3
I have had Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0.1 installed on my CentOS 4.2 desktop and it worked fine. After upgrading to 4.3, I can't get it to come up anymore. I downloaded Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 and it does the same. I'd appreciate any suggestions on what to look for, since the executable and the startup scripts are not giving me any useful errors to chase. -- Ron Loftin

Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.3 - slightly OT
I've noticed recently that the latest version of Adobe's Acrobat Reader (9.3) has a really annoying tendency to stop for 30-60 seconds shortly after it starts up to read/display a PDF file. I don't see this on my Windows copies, just on CentOS. Anyone know what's up with that? Thanks. mhr

Linux apps from inside Wine (was:Re: Problems with Lotus Notes R5.0.12 under Wine 20050524)
Hi Shadi, I'm also using notes 5.0.12 and I've posted at May,05-2005 a message just talking about how to start Linux apps from a Windows app over/under Wine. The only problem is that I'm not using wine-20050524 ... 8-(. Instead I'm using 20040813. Follows the message. Feel free to ask me more questions and if you want I can send to you another types of scripts.

Printing Postscript - Very Weird Problem.
Hey folks, okay, here's the situation - I have a Centos 4.2 system with cups printing installed printing via postcript (with appropriate PPD file) to a HP LaserJet 1320N printer (via jetdirect socket 9100). Everything seems to work right - except for an unusual 'font'??? problem. Many letters seem to be just slightly garbled. At first I thought this was a mechanical problem at

acroread 8 on CentOS-4 (was for SL4)
I know acroread is not part of CentOS but many people use it. Thought forwarding this post on the SciLinux mailing list might help those who use acroread on CentOS-4. === excerpt === The "latest" version officially compatible with RHEL4 is acroread-7.0.9, but this currently has open security holes (CVE-2007-5663 et al). http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa08-01.html

Linux apps from inside Wine (was:Re: Problems with Lotus Notes R5.0.12 under Wine 20050524)
Hi Andreas, I saw someone (Mike or Joachim, I think) at the list saying you have to shutdown the wineserver. It will overwrite the system.reg as soon it goes down. So before you make the changes be sure there is none wine* process running. Hope this helps. If not, write us again and we'll help you (sometime ago I run into the same problem but I can't remember the

gluster permissions problem
Hi, I'm running a very simple gluster server, as a NFSv4 replacement. I documented this here: http://www.mail-archive.com/users at lists.fedoraproject.org/msg40298.html User home folders are served over this file server. This worked fine in Fedora 15, but I am experiencing some odd permissions problems with Adobe Acrobat after upgrading the server to Fedora 16. I've seen it with some

AcroRead failing miserably in CentOS 5.0
I could swear that this was working just last week, but now when I run the Adobe Acrobat reader, it hangs. If I run it "directly" (/usr/bin/acroread) with -DEBUG as the first argument, I get an infinite loop of: expr: syntax error I tried removing and reinstalling it, but no change. a fix for rotated PDF graphs
Hi, I have found references for the following problem in the list archives, but no nice solution. So I decided to post one I came up with. The problem is that graphs output as eps files, for example using ps.options(onefile=FALSE, paper="special", width=8, height=8, horizontal=FALSE, pointsize=12) get rotated when I convert them to pdf using epstopdf. Both ghostview and

Problems with x86_64 kickstart
I have successfully set up a very nice kickstart install with the i386 version of CentOS 4.3 and it works great. I am using a custom kickstart script and the kernel and initrd from disc1/images. But when I try to duplicate this for a 64 bit setup (changing paths in my tftp server, ks.cfg, etc to point to the 64 bit stuff) it successfully tftp's everything just as it should (tethereal

CentOs4.3
How can I efficiently search for programs and packages that are available as part of the CentOs4.3 distribution? I am using CentOs4.3 and need to install packages that are apparently not part of this distribution. What RedHat version do I have to consider if I want to use rpm's for RedHat instead? Dirk

DHCP without network access
Hi, I've got a box with CentOS 4.2 x86_64 which had no DHCP access for a few hours, now I can't ping it (I'm pretty sure the box is still up). I expect the DHCP lease has timed out and the box has lost it's IP, I was expecting it to reacquire it once the DHCP came back up (configuration problem) - but no luck. Is this a known problem? Any solution/workaround? (for now or for

libMrm.so.3
I need to install libMrm.so.3 on my computer that has Centos4.3. However, I am not experienced with Centos4.3 so far. I do not know where to find this library for Centos4.3 and how to install it. Is there something like apt? Using system-config-packages I cannot find any intelligent way to search for programs and package. Dirk

acroread security problem
Dear all, I think there's a security problem with the acroread plugin for firefox. I'm using sysutils/pwsafe to manage my passwords. A feature of this tool is that it can copy the requested password to the X clipboard, allowing the user to paste it (eg. in a password box), never seeing the pass in clear. When I load a PDF document in Firefox, the acroread process lives on even after the
