Concurrent POP3 Sessions Issues
Hi,
I have problems with dovecot + ldap + nfs, we could't have more than
20 concurrent sessions of pop3, when user 21 comes, the auth process takes
more than 1 sec and is incresing (while most users arrives, more delay in
autenticacion exists) and my customers complaint about the service. We need
support about 200 concurrents pop3 users, here is my details

Adding secure POP3?
I have a working server that only allows connections over secure IMAP (port 993) and secured submission (587).
However, I have one account that has been forwarding mail to gmail for many years and that is getting to be more and more of a problem as more large sites enforce DMARC.
So, the only way that gmail will pull mail is via pop3, so I need to add pop3 access.

dsync and pop3 migration plugin fails for large inbox due to idle timeout
Timo,
There is a problem with the dsync POP3 migration plugin when syncing a large INBOX. What happens is dsync establishes a connection to the POP3 server at the beginning of the sync, but then it sits there idle until it's used to sync the UIDLs. On a very large inbox with many thousands of messages it will be idle for longer than a POP3 server's idle timeout setting.
When the UIDL

Login processes in Dovecot
I will be deploying Dovecot on OS X shortly. I am looking for
clarification on the limits imposed by OS X and sysctl
[kern.maxproc]. I understand that it is defaulting to 532, but can be
raised to 2500. I believe the OS uses around 100 or so, plus I will
have other processes and shells at times.
Does Dovecot use one process per user logged in? I find Apple Mail
uses about 4 IMAP

Dovecots pop3-UIDL command impl. not RFC compliant ?
Hi !
POP3-RFC (1939) speaks about UIDL command:
The unique-id of a message is an arbitrary server-determined
string, consisting of one to 70 characters in the range 0x21
to 0x7E, which uniquely identifies a message within a maildrop and which
persists across sessions.
When I issue an UIDL command (dovecot 0.99.10.9)
I get replies like
1 1093990148.1
2 1093990148.2
3 1093990148.3

set delay between pop3-logins
I'm using dovecot 1.1.8 on a raq4 server running centos 4.8
Is it possible to set a time delay between all dovecot pop3-logins? say 20 -
30 seconds for example?
My reason is I want to thwart the constant login attempts from hackers
hunting for an open relay. It's no good blocking the ip address because
every hack attempt comes in from a different address. I'm the only user on

architecture to handle 1000 messages per second?
Can anyone describe an architecture which can handle 1000 IMAP or POP
messages per second? Ideally, it would be hosted in the cloud and
additional instances could be launched to handle additional load.

Disallow POP3 from deleting messages
I'd like to use Dovecot as our IMAP server when our users are within our LAN, but I'd also like to give them the ability to access their emails via POP3 when they are outside the LAN. I know most POP3 clients will give their users the option of not deleting the messages from the server after they are downloaded, but is there any way to restrict them from being able to do so at the server

pop3+leave messages on server
hi All,
I have a srange problem.
Before dovecot there was a courier imap and it worked just fine. The
client(s) are the same then before, so I think, this is an server side
problem.
I have a user with Outlook and he uses pop3 and leaves messages on server.
Sometimes the messages get downloaded again, when he starts the outlook.
Not all, but 7-9 hours back.

Hello Dovecot List,
I am a bit of a sysadmin novice and this is my first time emailing,
so please let me know if I have left some critical information out. I
am supporting a small office network supported primarily by linux
servers. All of my users are using dovecot as a pop3 daemon on a
centOS 5 box, no IMAP users. Seven users are running outlook 2003 on
windows XP, two users are running

id:N13388 Disable storage of messages on server when read (pop3)
Hi there
Is there any way in dovecot to disable the storage of messages on server when they are read/downloaded by the users (POP3).
The server keeps the e-mail when users tick the option on their MUA to keep (leave) messages on server.

pop3 problem with small messages with no Subject: and no To: headers
Hello,
Seeing a strange thing with dovecot 1.0 b7 pop3.
If a user gets a particular _very_ short spam message (not sure what
virus makes these..), with NO Subject and NO To: headers and NO body,
(example available upon request), the user is unable to download the
mail. The log entry is:

gmail pop3 fetcher sets my emails as read
Hello,
I'm testing gmail to fetch my emails via POP3 and I've noticed that on
the server where I run dovecot, the emails that gmail take, are marked
as read when I imap my emails with my thunderbird.
As I've noticed that this is not true for the email accounts on
another mail environment, I was wondering if anyone of you could
sugged where I could change the behaviour.

Question about the pop3 feature "leave messages on server for a certain period of time"
Hi all
I am missing something on the the pop3 "leave messages" rationale.
Although the UIDL feature solves for the MUA the problem "whch mails
should be downloaded",
how the duration that these mails should be kept on server, say 10 days
for one MUA and 20 days for another MUA for the same account,
is resolved on the server?
thanks in advance

POP3 - Mark messages as read
Hi all. I have a little problem with Dovecot.
My POP3 users can retrieve their emails without problem, but if they have
"Leave mail in server" (or similar) active in their clients, their mboxes
doesn't get updated marking those messages as read.
If I access their mboxes locally with "mail -f username" I can see every
message marked as non-read, something that never
