Performance, dovecot vs tpop3d
Hello, I am new to the list and have spent extensive time researching performance suggestions through the list and the documentation. Particularly interesting is the recent performance thread related to the upcoming release. I just upgraded one of our email servers from tpop3d to dovecot 1.0rc19. tpop3d has served us well for many years; however, it basically has lost all it's support

[patch] support tpop3d-style UIDLs
Hello, I've attached a patch that adds an additional expando to pop3_uidl_format. The additional expando (%M) expands to the md5sum of the filename (which is already available via %f.) This UIDL style is compatible with tpop3d when using Maildir. The patch is against dovecot 1.0 beta3, and I'd love to see it be merged into the official tree. Comments welcome. -- Ben Winslow

ignoring some subfolders [potential wishlist]
Hello I'm looking at migration path from my current setup (tpop3d/courier-imap) and I seem to miss one feature - ability to ignore some subfolders for pop3. tpop3d allows me to say: maildir-ignore-folders: Spam Trash trash Sent sent-mail POP3-Invisible (would be stupid to fetch own sent-mail via pop3 again 8-) In recent tpop3d cvs version I can also use regexps like

Migration from tpop3d to dovecot - troubles galore!
Hi people, I am trying to migrate some users from tpop3d (Maildir mailboxes) to dovecot. The most important aspect of this migration, and which I cannot seem to get right, is to first be able to make dovecot to authenticate against the current DB being used by tpop3d so that I can use imapsync to transfer the user mails. And I do believe that is what I am unable to get right!! So here goes what

Execute Query after Logon ...
Hello list, is there a possibility to submit a query after a login. I use this feature in tpop3d to write a popb4smtp log into mysql. I would like to replace tpop3d with dovecot for pop3 and imap. Therefor I would need something similar. Thanks for answers. Regards Karl-Heinz __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - You care about security. So do we.

Question about migration from tpop3d mbox -> Dovecot maildir
Yes, again! :) I googled this issue but found no solution. Then, simple question - on this moment, it is possible without losing UIDLs or not?

[patch] MD5 variable modifier
Hello, I've taken a different (better) approach to getting tpop3d-compatible UIDLs: the first attached patch (...md5_modifier.diff) adds a variable expansion modifier (%M) to return the md5sum of the expanded variable in hex. With the patch, you can get tpop3d-compatible UIDLs by setting pop3_uidl_format to %Mf. While testing interactions with other modifiers (e.g. %MUf to get the md5sum in

Indexing Performance Question (was tpop3d vs dovecot)
Since posting the previous thread we've setup a new system (Opteron 2.0ghz, 1gb ram, Fedora 6) for testing. I am hoping somebody very familiar with the indexing portion of dovecot can shed some light on this for me. After much testing, I've come to one primary conclusion that dovecot is possibly unnecessarily scanning or reading files within the maildir directories. Take a mailbox

dovecot 1.0.15 upgrading to dovecot 1.1.x or 1.2.x, and POP3 UIDL issue
Hi, We're upgrading a cluster of servers from v1.0.15 to v1.1.x or v1.2.x. It appears that the UIDL generation mechanism has changed, and thus we'll be getting POP3 dups with users that leave mail on server (which is a nasty practice, I know). From checking the sources, and performing a number of controlled tests in various scenarios, here is the outcome: upgrade from 1.0.15 to

I am looking to A. move from mbox to maildir B. looking to move from tpop to dovecot to bring both pop and imap under the same program. anyways the problem I am having is this tpop3d mbox uses MD5 sum of the mailbox headers in hex which is option %m in the uidl section but the problem is when dovecot

centos on intel D945GCLF board
Hi, I am trying to install centos on the intel D945GCLF board. It's a mini-ITX board with the atom processor and it uses the Realtek RTL8102EL LAN chipset. When I disable the on-board LAN card it installs and runs OK, but when I enable it, I get kernel panic at boot. The board runs perfectlj with Fedora 9 (with the latest kernel) or with Ubuntu server. My question is: is there some way

message-of-the-day feature?
For lack of a better name, we are interested in a feature where one could get a notice out to all Dovecot users as quickly as possible, possibly without going through an MTA even. Given a message and a list of userids we could certainly do a mailing on the MDA server itself going through both Postfix and Dovecot LDA. However, we were wondering what other options we might have in Dovecot. For

XEN and PCIPassthru
I have an old windows NT machine, that I would like to virtualize under CentOS and xen. The problem is, that the machine has an old PCI card that is used for some sensor control. I tried to google the topic, but there isn't any useful tutorial, how to do this under CentOS. What I found out is, that I need a machine that supports the Intel VT-d technology and at least XEN 3.3. Does someone on

samba file locking
Hi, I encountered an interesting problem. We have a Java application on a samba server. The folder is then shared to the clients via a samba share. So far it works OK. Until now we had windows clients and everything worked OK. But now we are trying to Linux clients and this is where the fun starts. When a developer copies a new jar to the folder which is shared via samba. And if this copying is
