system "stuck" with 2.6.18-128 kernel. how to move to 2.6.18-194.17?
Hi. I just noticed I had a CentOS 5.3 system that I updated to CentOS 5.5 a few days ago, and I just ran "yum -y update" again to get the latest kernel, and I just noticed it still has the old 2.6.18-128 kernel instead of the new 2.6.18-194.17. What gives? /etc/grub.conf points at 2.6.18-194.17, but when I reboot, 2.6.18-128 comes up. Any suggestions? Thanks, -at myserver# yum -y

kernel bug ?
Hi, I was using kernel-2.6.18-164.15.1 with no known issues. Then, I updated to: Linux 2.6.18-194.17.1.el5 #1 SMP Wed Sep 29 12:50:31 EDT 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I'm aware that there are later updates that patch couple more security bugs. Here is an issue I run with 2.6.18-194.17.1 and am asking if anyone hits that kernel bug. Here are the symptoms: 1) kswapd1 running at 100%,

XML segfault on some architectures
Hi, I found an architecture-specific segfault problem with the XML package. I originally found the problem using the parseKGML2Graph function in the Bioconductor KEGGgraph package, but as far as I can tell the underlying issue seems to be with the xmlTreeParse which is called by parseKGML2Graph. I'm trying this piece of code, from the xmlTreeParse help page: library(XML) fileName <-

build and install lustre from source code -- warning on livcfs.ko for no modversions
I built and installed Lustre from source. When I installed built luster-modules- RPM, I got libcfs.ko from the kernel-2.6.18-prep has no modversions (the message is posted below), so it cannot be reused for kernel. Is there any procedure I need to do during the build? There is include/config/modversion.h under patched kernel, but the file does not have any contens and its size is 0. Thanks for

Radeon HD 4550 driver
Upgraded the kernel to the latest, then tried to rebuild the proprietary Catalyst driver for a Radeon HD 4550 on a Dell Optiplex 980. The install dies, with a c error. Anyone else out there succeed in building one on the 2.6.18-194.17.1.el5-x86_64 kernel? I went to the ATI website, and the "installation instructions" include that it needs a) 32 bit software (which? dunno) and b) a

CentOS 5.5 hangs on Acer Veriton X498G
I have installed CentOS 5.5 (2.6.18-194.17.1.el5PAE) on a number of Acer Veriton X498G desktop computers. They seem to randomly hang when nobody is logged in at the console, i.e. I notice a hanged computer but have not heard complaints about computers hanging while a user was at the keyboard. The symptoms are: Blank screen. Power LED on. Network LED blinking. No response to keyboard or

Increased memory usage between 4.8 and 5.5
I'm running into a memory problem when trying to switch some web servers that are running centos4.8/x86_64 to centos5.5/x86_64. The new servers running centos5.5 are using a decent amount more memory than the centos4.8 servers. Here's an example from top: --- centos 5.5 --- $ uname -a Linux ws51 2.6.18-194.17.1.el5 #1 SMP Wed Sep 29 12:50:31 EDT 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Network card not working after update to 2.6.18-194.17.4.el5
Hello, the network card of my workstation stopped working after I updated the kernel to 2.6.18-194.17.4.el5 . I don't see any specific error messages when booting, and the related interface is shown as up by ifconfig with its (static) IP address properly set. But I cannot reach any other computer or router on the LAN (whereas other boxes work fine). Where the network cable is plugged, an

Mount/automount fails with krb5-enabled nfs4
I have a problem that is driving me crazy. Our nfs server is running Solaris. Most clients mount directories from it with no problems, but not all. All clients that have problems run CentOS (5.4 and 5.5). I've found one or two of each version that fail, but also a couple of each version that work. The mounting is done for user home directories via autofs but that doesn't seem to make any
