Error in setwd(outDir) : cannot change working directory
I installed R on my Windows laptop in C:\Program Files\R\R-2.15.2 and am able to open RGUI (640bit), see packages and run commands. However, when I test the installation and run the basic tests and all the tests on the standard and recommended packages i.e.: library("tools") testInstalledBasic("both") testInstalledPackages("base", errorsAreFatal

Windows 7 installation issues
I installed R version 2.15.0 under C:/ on a PC running Windows 7.  When I load library("tools") to test the installation and then run the command testInstalledPackages("base"), I get the following error: Error in setwd(outDir): cannot change working directory. I have set up the R shortcut to run it as administrator. [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

testInstalledBasic
Hello, I installed R 2.13.0 on a Windows 2003 server.? I downloaded the Rtools213.exe from http://www.murdoch-sutherland.com/Rtools/ and placed it in the path (C:\Program Files\R\R-2.13.0\bin). I submitted the following code: library(tools) Sys.setenv(LC_COLLATE=C) testInstalledBasic('basic') I get the following message in the R Console, which I believe corresponds to a failure of the

Invoking SAS in order to use sas.get
I am trying to use the sas.get function to bring a SAS dataset into R. After calling the sas.get function I got an error message stating that 'sas' is not a recognized internal or external command, etc. I am guessing that I need to specify the internal command to invoke SAS in the sasprog option for the sas.get function, but I don't know how to determine what that command might be.

R vs. Stata
I have read some very good reviews comparing R (or Splus) to SAS. Does anyone know if there are any reviews comparing R (or Splus) to Stata? I am trying to get others to try R in my department, and I have never used Stata. Building 2.9.0 on Solaris 10 U6 x86
I've run into a number of problems. I'm not sure where they belong, so I thought I'd send it here in hope someone will send them where they do belong. It mostly seems to be either errors in the autoconf input or system header weirdness. There was one genuine compiler bug when compiling saveload.c which google resolved (add "-xunroll=1" ). -liconv is missing from LIBS in

modeling logit(y/n) using lrm
I have a dataset at a hospital level (as opposed to the patient level) that contains number of patients experiencing events (call this number y), and the number of patients eligible for such events (call this number n). I am trying to model logit(y/n) = XBeta. In SAS this can be done in PROC LOGISTIC or GENMOD with a model statement such as: model y/n = <predictors>;. Can this be done

Subscript out of bounds when using datadist() from Design library
I am running R version 2.4.1 on Windows XP. I have a question regarding the datadist() function from the Design library. I have a data.frame (call it my.data) with 4 columns. When I submit the code datadist(data=my.data) I get the following error message: Error in X[[1]] : subscript out of bounds I suspect there may be something wrong with my data.frame (I'm certain there is nothing

R vs. Splus in Pharma/Devices Industry
Following up to some extent on Friday's discussion regarding the 'validation' of R, could I ask the list group's opinion on possible advantages of R over Splus from a pharma/devices perspective? I wish to exclude the obvious price difference, which doesn’t seem to carry as much weight as I would have thought. Besides, I have noticed many former Splus users gravitating towards R,

pkg/tests: how to run them with --vanilla
Hello I recently submitted an update of a package, and received error reports from CRAN maintainers concerning the pkg/tests section: > Next time you update, can you please ensure that the .Rout.save files > are generated in English (with LANGUAGE=en set). R 2.12.x will ensure > that the tests are run in English, and it saves a lot of unnecessary > chatter if the reference

Making Gehan-Breslow test for Survival data
Hi all, The survivals functions can be tested by the Log-rank test and others, for example the Gehan-Breslow. The graham breslow work with the alpha values. But I don't know how is the Gehan-Breslow test with R. Somebody know a type function?.. or other suggestions? Any help will be really appreciated Jos? Use of R in clinical trials
Dear all, There have been a variety of discussions on the R list regarding the use of R in clinical trials. The following post from the STATA list provides an interesting opinion regarding why SAS remains so popular in this arena: http://www.stata.com/statalist/archive/2008-01/msg00098.html Regards, -Cody Hamilton

Using R for devices trial
I would like to use R for submissions to FDA/CDRH (the medical device company I work for currently uses only SAS). Previous postings to the list regarding R and 21 CFR 11 compliance have been very helpful. However, reluctance to using open source software for statistical analyses and reporting remains high here at my company. Has anyone used R for an official submission to FDA/CDRH? It would

parametric proportional hazard regression
Dear all, I am trying to find a suitable R-function for parametric proportional hazard regressions. The package survival contains the coxph() function which performs a Cox regression which leaves the base hazard unspecified, i.e. it is a semi-parametric method. The package Design contains the function pphsm() which is good for parametric proportional hazard regressions when the underlying base

valgrind complains about save (PR#9096)
valgrind complains about the save command in R 2.3.1 as shown by the script included below. Of course, I don't know whether this "Conditional jump or move depends on uninitialised value(s)" is really a bug. Experience with similar issues in my own code says it may be, but it is also hard to tell. Having no familiarity with the code cited in deflate.c, I leave the issue to experts.

Repeated tests against baseline
I came across a post by Karl Knoblick regarding the modeling of longitudinal data (see https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2007-May/132137.html). I am often asked by physicians to perform what Karl refers to in his post as option 1: to perform paired t-tests against baseline at each follow up time point (30 days, 90 days, 6 months, etc.). Unlike Karl's example, however, many of the trials

Behavior of --install-tests and testInstalledPackage
Hello, I'm writing a script that automates the testing of reverse dependencies of a package. I found the function testInstalledPackage in the tools package, which seems to do what I want. However, when I use it for a source package that was installed with --install-tests, I've noticed that only the actual test files (e.g. located in inst/tests) are available and run. In other words the

problem getting R 2.3.1 svn r38481 to pass make check-all
Hi, I noticed this problem on my home desktop running FC4 and again on my laptop running FC5. Both have previously compiled and passed make check-all on 2.3.1 svn revisions from 10 days ago or so. On both these machines, make check-all is consistently failing (4 out of 4 attempts on the FC 4 desktop and 3 out of 3 on the FC 5 laptop) in the p-r-random-tests tests. This is with both default
