How to extract particular rows and column from a table
Hello, I'm a new user of R. I've a very big table like the following structure (suppose the variable name with "aa"). From this table I want to make a new table which'll contain just two column with V2 and V6 with some particular rows( Suppose, variable name with "bb"). I'd like to mention V2 column is representing the id that correspond to the column V6 whis

I am trying to setup vinum on a box using 4.8 RELENG_4 (as of about a week ago snapshot). Set Colour of Histogram Bars (lattice)
Hello there, I have a bunch of histogram bars that I'd like the first to be a certain colour, second to be another colour, third to be a third colour, and repeat for all my 39 bars. I thought this was the way to go, but I get the same cyan coloured bars for all the bars. I did a vector of 3 colours, hoping it'd recycle them for the other bars. > levels(forPlot$type) [1]

Unresolved symbols in compiler-rt
Hello all, I get unresolved external symbol __muloti4 when attempting to compile GNU m4 for Windows commandline. See details in bug: https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16404#c22 Looking into this, I see that some parts of compiler-rt are disabled for Windows due to the __LP64__ define. The code seem not portable as is to the MS compiler, but according to my tests the code compiles and links

long character string problem
Hi All I am having 2 very long character strings (550chars) and I want to put them as expressions together with c(). The problem is that I also get these double-quotes, as seen below in 'fct'. How can I remove these double-quotes? I tried as.name() but it did not work (because of size?). These are creating trouble with subsequent programs, which I tested with strings that for some

Help with averaging
Hi I am using the following script to average a set of data 0f 62 columns into 31 colums. The data consists of values of ln(0.01) or -4.60517 instead of NA's. These need to be averaged for each row (i.e 2 values being averaged). What I would I need to change for me to meet the conditions: 1. If each run of the sample has a value, the average is given 2. If only one run of the sample has a

comparing two strings from data
Hi, I have two columns that contain numbers along with letters (as shown below) and have different lengths. Each entry in the first column is likely to be found in the second column at most once. For each entry of the first column, if that entry is found in the second column, I would like to get the corresponding index. For instance, if the first entry of the first column is 5th entry in the

comparing two strings from data
It's generally a very good idea to examine the structure of data after you have read it in. str(data2) would have shown you that read.csv() turned your strings into factors, and that's why the == operator no longer does what you think it does. use ... data_2 <- read.csv("excel_data.csv", stringsAsFactors = FALSE) ... to turn this off. Also, the %in% operator will achieve

comparing two strings from data
Combining and completing the advice from Greg and Boris the complete solution is two lines: data_2 <- read.csv("excel_data.csv", stringsAsFactors = FALSE) match_list <- match( data_2$data1, data_2$data2 ) The vector match_list will have the matching position when it exists and NA's otherwise. Its length will be the same as the length of data_2$data1. You should get

Need a more efficient way to implement this type of logic in R
I have cobbled together the following logic. It works but is very slow. I'm sure that there must be a better r-specific way to implement this kind of thing, but have been unable to find/understand one. Any help would be appreciated. hh.sub <- households[c("HOUSEID","HHFAMINC")] for (indx in 1:length(hh.sub$HOUSEID)) { if ((hh.sub$HHFAMINC[indx] == '01')

Multiple regression in R - unstandardised coefficients are a different sign to standardised coefficients, is this correct?
Hello, I have a statistical problem that I am using R for, but I am not making sense of the results. I am trying to use multiple regression to explore which variables (weather conditions) have the greater effect on a local atmospheric variable. The data is taken from a database that has 20391 data points (Z1). A simplified version of the data I'm looking at is given below, but I have a
