need gui matrix editor: does R Core team have advice on how?
Dear R-devel:
Would R core team consider endorsing a graphical toolkit and trying to
facilitate development of little GUI tools?
I need a gui matrix editor for users that want to be able to write
matrices that are later used to simulate data. Instead of teaching
them to write a covariance matrix (for example, for mvtnorm), I want
to tell them run a function that pops up a table they can fill

[Fwd: problems installing rjags | tcltk]
Quick followup. Confirmed that TCl/Tk are both installed on the machine
(they are, in both 32- and 64-bit flavours), as are all tcl and
tk-related libs, devel packages, and about everything else I could find.
It occurred to me that perhaps the R I compiled isn't 'tcltk' aware. I
checked the config.log, and there is some hint that this might be the
case. Just before ## File

paths for install and libraries?
I've written a fairly elaborate package (called "eoa") that relies on
functions from several other packages. I've built the package into a zip
file on Windows using Hadley's devtools::build(binary = T) and have sent
the zip to a couple dozen people for testing. My package installs fine, but
some people are having trouble loading it. After library(eoa), they get

grid error message when resizing graphics window after tcltk loaded
Dear R-devel / Dr. Murrell -
This is similar but ultimately unrelated (I think) to something I posted
about in February. See my original post here:
https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2008-February/048278.html
I start R with the --vanilla option, and run the following code.
## BEGIN SAMPLE R CODE

for(j in seq(0, 1, by = .1)) {

tcltk capability
There are quite a few packages that make use of tcltk and although
- most R distributions have tcltk capability
- its possible to query this via capabilities()[["tcltk"]]
- attempting to build a package that needs it on such an R
distribution will give a message letting one know
users still seem to have problems with this.
There was recently an R bug report submitted that likely

Error in grid.text after tcltk package loaded
Hello -
I am noticing some strange errors when using the grid package, but
(apparently) only after loading the tcltk package. The interaction here
does not make sense to me, and I'm wondering if anyone else can
reproduce this, or if it is specific to my setup. Here is my sessionInfo:

library(tcltk) v. SIGPIPE BUG (?!?)
Hi R-devel, tcltk devel, and sqldf devel,
The transcript below shows how loading the tcl/tk library in under R causes subprocesses to ignore SIGPIPE.
I am including the developer of the (wonderful) sqldf package since it requires tcltk and you might like to make this dependence optional to the user (at least until this is fixed in tcltk).
Am I mistaken in calling this a 'bug'?

tcltk on linux/rhel6
Dear All,
I've seen posts to the effect that..
1) choose.dir is only available for windows, and
2) tk_choose.dir would be the linux equivalent.
I'm still having trouble with the subject package on linux/rhel6.
I've specified --with-tcltk during ./configure, and I still get the response...

In the past I have configured without using the "--with-tcltk" flag,
and R of course built just fine. But it *did not* have tcltk
capability. When I wanted that capability I had to start using the

It recently came to my attention that my R installation no longer has
tcltk capability.
I can't figure out why or what to do about it.
I built R from source. I configured using the "--with-tcltk" flag. The
build and install *seemed* to go OK, but after realising I didn't have
tcltk capability I looked into config.log.
There I found:

When I have compiled from sourced on Ubuntu, I did NOT include the
"with-tcltk" and it worked fine. Did you try that, please?
Thanks,
