Does a list of compatible motherboards
Is there a list of compatible motherboards? My Abit BE7 is not compatible with either Centos 4.1 or Fedora 3; just RH 9. Any suggestions are welcomed.... Todd -- Ariste Software 200 D Street Ext Petaluma, CA 94952 (707) 773-4523

Installing on Abit BE7-RAID
I have RH 8 running on a Abit BE7-RAID motherboard. My task is installing Centos 4.1 with limited knowledge on installing with hardware RAID. The arrays are still in place for the two pairs of drives. HighPoint only shows drivers up through RH 9. Is there anyone who can take me through the steps? Remove the existing arrays? Will the drivers work with Centos 4.1? Since I used Windows to

How to select a motherboard
Not being familiar with chip sets and other factors that "hardware experts" understand, I am perplexed with the multitude of available motherboards. Is there a Web site that can be of help or a "strategy"? My goal is to replace my motherboard with one that is Centos compatible and uses a Pentium 4 in the 2 MHz range. As example, when I go to Mwave, I am presented with

OT: BIOS upgrades and booting without a floppy drive
I've got a machine running CentOS 3.5 with an Intel D865GBF motherboard and I've been having an occasional "event" where disk-intensive activity (such as running "yum check-update" or starting up OpenOffice) causes the load average to spike and X11 to become unresponsive (as in, the pointer won't even track the mouse) for a few seconds. The machine always recovers

question on software raid-1
I have a system that is RAID -1 configured as /dev/md0 is /dev/hda1 /dev/hdb1 /dev/md1 is /dev/hdb3 /dev/hdb3 it seems as though /dev/hda has failed.... I have another disk (identical model) that I can replace hda with. I know about the commands fdisk to repartion and raidhotadd /dev/md0 /dev/hda1 and raidhotadd /dev/md1 /dev/hda3 (to be ran after the system boots). BUT... how do I now get

CentOS 4 and Intel D965 motherboards
Does anyone have information on support for Intel D965-based motherboards for CentOS 4 (i386)? I've got a DG965RYCK that fails a CentOS 4.4 install early on (problems scanning the PCI bus). Fedora Core 6 installs just fine. If anyone has any information, or magic boot parameters to try, please let me know. ("Works for me" is OK too). Thanks much. Dave Thompson UW-Madison

CentOS 3 sound intermittently goes out
I'm running CentOS 3.6. The hardware is an Intel D865GBF motherboard, but I also have a generic soundblaster-compatible PCI card installed, because back when I installed CentOS 3.1 I had problems getting the onboard sound to work. The PCI sound card worked fine until about the time I installed CentOS 3.5. Since then, however, it has failed intermittently. Once it fails, it's generally

syslinux 5.x, 6.x gpxlinux.0 forces reboot on some devices
On some devices (ThinkPad T60 - but not T61, kvm images, Intel board D865GBF) gpxelinux.0 is the last file downloaded from tftp server then the device reboots. This does not happen with SYSLINUX v4.06. Any ideas. Herwig

Static on outgoing calls using either X100P or TDM400P
Hello. I've seen several posts talking about line quality using Digium cards that are sharing IRQs or on machines where X is running but after trying all of those fixes I am still having a problem with line static on outoing calls. BTW, calls that are from one extension to another extension have no static, however, they have occasional clicks and pops. At any rate, I was wondering if

How to resolve an up2date package conflict?
Hi, At present I'm setting up several CentOS (4 and 4.4) machines, and in the process of installing the several updates that are automatically mentioned by up2date as being available, I'm running into a package conflict. More particular, when trying to install several of the C compiler related packages (like gcc, cpp, etc.) I get the error message: "Test install failed

md5 passwords?
On a C4.4 system, I want to add md5 passwords for the grub boot menu to prevent users from making selections other than the default boot options. I also want to add md5 passwords when attempting single user mode boots (may be answered by first request). The same for C5 systems. Thanks. Scott

ata device but for a soundcard
I am looking for an ATA like device but instead of VOIP to analog phone I want VOIP to low level audio out. Something that looks like a sound card output. I know I can use cheap PC's but that then you have HD's to setup etc... HD failures etc... Anyone know of something like that? Jerry

What's a preferred linux distribution for my needs...
I've gone through samba.org and have tried to go through the samba archives (but there are too many posts and too little time) to get an answer. I would like to set up samba for simple file sharing (non-domain) using an un-attended PC; i.e. I want the PC to be able to turn on or recover from a power failure and load and run samba without any manual intervention whatsoever. Could

megaraid problem
Hi, I'm trying to install Centos 4.3 x86 on a PE 1400SC but the install doesn't find any HD's. So then I get the option to load a module, so I choose for the megaraid_mbox module for the LSI LOGIC 4CH PERC but my RAID5 still doesn't get recognised. Had the same problem 2 years ago with FC3 wich was due to the megaraid module wich got obsolete in the 2.6 kernel but somebody filed

e-mail serving
I am going to try an experiment with e-mail aggregation where I expect to receive over 1 million e-mails a day from public lists. Can anyone shed some light on hard disk space (to retain this e-mail for long periods) and system specs to be able to handle the load? I am looking to buy a low end box, but that can hold lots of RAM and accomodate a fair number of HD's to store the e-mail while
