printconf
Does anyone know of a command line tool for printer configuration for CentOS 5. I have used "printconf-tui --Xexport > printers.xml" to copy my printer setup in CentOS 4.x (then Ximport to bring it back), but this no longer works in CentOS 5 and I would really like to retain this functionality. Can I re-install this tool or will it not work with the new CUPS? Is there an

How to create a virtual machine? (Centos-5-beta-xen)
Hi, I am trying to create a virtual machine with FC6 inside a Centos 5 (beta) Xen host. I am following the documentation of Fedora[1]. I used the "virt-install" command, and every went fine until the moment to create the partitions on the virtual disk (file "/var/xen/fc6.iso" with 10GB). No matter with option I choose: remove all partitions, remove linux partitions, use

Raw print queues in CentOS 4.4
Hi All, I have a raw print queue configured in CentOS 4.4 for a printer connected to a Windows PC. The printer doesn't have a Linux driver of any sort, so this was the only way to print to it. The printer is an Okidata dot matrix printer. Users can print to it from a console application, but if they try printing to it from OOo Writer, the printer spits out reams of pages with what looks

tftp times out
tftp keeps timing out when I try to transfer files. I intend to use tftp with G4U to clone a standard workstation. I am testing it between two Dell poweredge servers running CentOS 4.3. "chkconfig --list |grep tftp" shows tftp up and running on both boxes. When connected "tftp>status" shows it is talking to the other box "tptp>trace" shows "sent WRQ

GRUB Timeout problem
I recently installed CentOS 5.1 on a DL71 ASI notebook. After my yum update the timeout parameter in /boot/grub/grub.conf file has no effect. It sits at the grub screen forever unless I press the enter key to select a kernel, at which point it will boot. Any help or suggestions to fix this would be much appreciated CentOS release 5.2 (Final) Kernel 2.6.18-92.1.18.el5 on an i686 # grub.conf

SuperMicro X7DBE with CentOS4?
I am planning to build a server based on the SuperMicro X7DBE+-O motherboard. This server will have two dual-core Xeon processors and a 3ware 9550SX raid card. Has anyone built a server based on this motherboard? Are there any issues with the smp/dual-core support in CentOS4 that might cause problems? I appreciate any input. I'm just looking to find out about any possible problems before

Nice chassis for ZFS server
Hi, I just came across this box [0] (McKay Creek). Seems to be exceptional building material for ZFS based NAS/iSCSI unit. I especially liked the two extra system disks hidden inside the box ! Any one have an experience with these ? [0] http://www.intel.com/design/servers/storage/ssr212mc2 -- Regards, Cyril

ZFS Usage in Warehousing (lengthy intro)
Dear all, we''re currently looking forward to restructure our hardware environment for our datawarehousing product/suite/solution/whatever. We''re currently running the database side on various SF V440''s attached via dual FC to our SAN backend (EMC DMX3) with UFS. The storage system is (obviously in a SAN) shared between many systems. Performance is mediocre in terms

Any way to reduce CPU use of OpenSSH?
On my CentOS v5.2 server (dual Pentium4) the OpenSSH daemon stands out as being the most CPU-intensive of the applications running, It's used 176 minutes of CPU time in the last 2 days alone. Is there any way to lower the CPU utilization without compromising security? (I.e. without using a less processor-intensive encrypt/decrypt algorithm?) I'm getting the CPU use figures from top,

CentOS-5 beta Virtual Guest Setup Problem
Hi all, Using virt-manager to install a fully virtualized guest of CentOS 4.4 from DVD media fails after reboot at end of anaconda install process. Google has NOT been my friend on this but I know someone else has seen this problem, just no answers yet, and reading the docs has only resulted in more questions than answers (?my problem?). I think that the problem is in getting the vncpasswd

Questions on smbclient messaging
I'm running Samba v2.0.5a on a RedHat v6.0 system. This server provides SMB shares to Win98, OS/2 and Linux clients. Everything is running fine with the Win98 and OS/2 clients, but I have a few questions regarding Samba and Linux clients. 1. Is there a way for Linux systems to receive SMB messages? Something analogous to Windows' "WinPopup" or OS/2's "Network

How to disable hal's polling of CD-ROM drive in CentOS 5.1?
Given that I hardly ever use the CD-ROM drive, it makes no sense to have hal constantly polling it for new media. How can I disable this polling in CentOS 5.1? Thanks.

Pointer to simple mail server setup?
Hello. I need to set up a mail server for a small (~5 people) organization on CentOS 5.1. While I am very familiar with CentOS and Linux in general, I have zero experience in setting up a POP3(s)/SMTP mail server. I suppose eventually I'd like to do spam/virus filtering, but initially the simple sending/receiving of mail will be adequate. Can someone point me to a tutorial on setting

ie-specific error in prototype try-catch block?
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for debugging ie- specific errors? I have been working on a porting a prototype application that works fine in firefox to ie, and have run into several problems. For the latest one, the error message is not very informative. When trying to load the application, ie complains "Object doesn''t support this property or method." When

What is $super
Greetings, I had a question about the $super argument that I wasn''t able to find in documentation, searching etc. What exactly is the $super argument. Is it a reference to the super class''s prototype function? Or is it an instantiated object of the super class that is passed to the subclass''s method? I am completely confuzzled on this one, my typical
