Very slow disk performance on CentOS 4.5
I recently moved my CentOS 4.5 disk from a Lenovo ThinkCentre M52 (3.2 GHz Pentium 4) to a Lenovo ThinkCentre M55 (3.4 GHz Core 2 Duo). I had to install the SMP kernel, but other than that everything just worked. I did have an issue with accidentally initializing my /boot partition, but that was my own fault. But the system was not feeling right. Some things just seemed to be slower,

Kickstart hang trying to install CentOS 5.3
I've been using kickstart successfully with a local mirror going back to CentOS 4.X. I'm trying to install CentOS 5.3 via kickstart on a new system (which happens to be different than most other systems I've installed on), and the install process always hangs shortly after the partitions are created. If I go to the alternate console #3, the last two lines are always this

Another system with no sound
I am also having an issue with no sound on some CentOS desktop systems. I manage about 3 dozen desktops. Problem after crash during yum update
I was doing a "yum -y update" on a CentOS 4.5 system to get to 4.6 when my system froze. I couldn't ping it nor switch to an alternate console. It was completely frozen. The only recourse was to cycle the power. So I did that, and now when I try to do a "yum update" I get the following error: [many package header downloads deleted] tkinter-2.3.4-14.4.el4_6.

Disk operations very slow on Lenovo Thinkcentre
Hi, I'm currently trying to install CentOS 5.5 on a series of Lenovo Thinkcentre nettops. At first, the install CD boots OK without any options, but when it comes to formatting, the process can only be described as terribly slow... it took about half an hour to format the 160 GB disk. A few cups of coffee later, the system boots with the following messages on bootup (right at the

No subject
Hi, all. I'm new to rsync so please bear with me... I'm trying to back-up to a remote host (rsync locally works fine) & keep getting the below error messages. If I mount the remote host on my OS X box (I'm attempting to back-up my Debian boxes) the operation flows smoothly. I've upgraded my rsync version to the same as the remote host, chmod'd the permissions on the

Problem with graphics on latest CentOS 6
Am I the only one seeing this issue? Or is it that so few people are still running CentOS 6.x? Quick summary, on a very recent Dell motherboard using the on-board vide and booting the latest CentOS 6 kernel with the ?vga=xxx? parameter set to any non-default value results in unusable X11 graphics. Configuring sendmail in a corporate environment
I have a stock CentOS 5 system as far as email (sendmail) is concerned that is on our corporate LAN. I am not trying to set up a mail server; I merely want our CentOS systems to be able to send out emails. This works as long as the recipient's domain is our local domain. Any email send to recipients that are not in our local domain get stuck in the queue: # mailq

Strange NTP problem
I have 30 identical Lenovo desktop systems running CentOS 5.1. On one of those systems the clock is running slow (5+ minutes from yesterday to this morning and another minute since this morning) despite the fact that NTP is running on all of them and they all have the exact same /etc/ntp.conf file (I compared the MD5 sums of that file on all the systems). Here is the output of

Installing 32-bit CentOS 6 on a new Lenovo System x3650 M5 server?
Is there any known incompatibility with the latest 32-bit (i386) CentOS 6 and the latest Lenovo x3650 M5 servers? I?ve been running i386 CentOS 6.X on 3 year old x3650 M4 servers without any issues. Our development environment has not been ported to 64-bit (x86_64) yet, so we are stuck using i386 for another few months. When I try to boot from the netinstall ISO image I just get a ?Boot Failed?

Problem getting eth0 up
I'm just starting to test CentOS 6 in our environment, and as a first step did a basic install from DVD (Desktop target, all defaults). Next I will try to automate the installations as I did for CentOS 5 using the anakonda-ks.cfg file generated by the manual install. However, I can't wrap my brain around the new NetworkManager to get it to configure the eth0 interface to obtain an IP
