Passing data to aov
Hello Again Gurus and Lurkers:
I?m trying to build a very user-friendly function which does aov without
having the user type in a formula (which would be tedious in this case).
The idea is to take the response from a PCA score matrix, and the factors
from a list. A simple example is the function given below, along with test
data and a sample call to the function.
I'm certainly having

What is mclust up to? Different clusters found if x and y interchanged
Hello All...
I gave a task to my students that involved using mclust to look for clusters
in some bivariate data of isotopes vs various mining locations. They
discovered something I didn?t expect; the data (called tur) is appended
below.
p <- qplot(x = dD, y = dCu65, data = tur, color = mine)
print(p) # simple bivariate plot of the data; looks fine
mod1 <- Mclust(tur[,2:3])
mod1$G

Gathering different data types for aov etc
Hello List Folks. I?m trying to do manova using a function which assembles
the response (LHS) and factors (RHS) from different sources. When I do so,
the model routines complain that I'm passing a list for the RHS when I don't
think I am.
Here's a toy example:
r <- matrix(rnorm(30), ncol = 3) # toy data
td <- list(d = rnorm(10),
f1 = sample(c("A",

Replacing several rows of a matrix at once
Hello Folks. This must be a silly question with a (not) obvious (to me)
answer.
Consider this:
tmp <- matrix(1:200, nrow = 20)
vec <- 300:309
tmp[9,] <- vec # replacing one row works fine
p <- c(3, 11, 17)
tmp[p,] <- vec
# replacing multple rows pastes the values down a column and recycles vec.
What I want to do is replace multiple rows simultaneously at once. I
suppose I can

Error in calcCurveGrob(x, x$debug) : End points must not be identical
Hi All... I haven?t found mention of this error anywhere. I'm trying to
draw spline curves using grid graphics. Most of the time, I have no
problems, but I have some data sets that give the error in the subject line.
I'm not sure which end points are identical, but the end points passed to
the function are definitely not identical.
Any assistance appreciated! Bryan

Grid newbie: aligning & scaling viewports
Oh Knowledgeable Ones:
I'm working on a project using grid graphics (for the first time). A toy
example is given below, run it simply with >foobar() I am wondering why the
pink dot and concentric circles are not centered on the 3-color axis system.
Further, I feel like the concentric circles don't have the intended radius -
if my math is right, the outmost circle should touch the

ggplot2, building a simple formula interface
I?m trying to build a simple formula interface to work with a function using
ggplot2. The following scheme ?works? up until the plot(p) request, at which
point there are complaints about xlim?s and a blank graphics window.
Looking at str(p) I do see the limits are NULL, plus layer 1 claims to have
an empty data frame (but df is reproduced correctly). I'm sure I'm missing
something really

rgl keyboard shortcut for translation on Mac?
Hello Everyone.
I?m on a Mac, using rgl. Thanks to all the developers and maintainers on
it!
If I drag the mouse, I can rotate the view, if I hold down the option key or
the ctrl key and drag, I get scaling (though at times I seem to alter the
perspective?). Adding the shift key doesn't seem to modify anything.
So, what I can't find is a key combination that translates the object.

Gravity (spatial interaction) models in R
I was wondering if anyone has developed (or is developing) an
implementation for gravity models (spatial interaction) in R. I
conducted several searches on the CRAN website with no luck. Currently
I am estimating parameters via linearization.
Thank you in advance

Problems getting Gravity to run
Hi,
I'm having difficulties getting the news reader, Gravity, running

Gravity installed okay, and I ran it for a single session.
During that test, the following messages appeared many times:

Howto compile chemometrics package from source
Dear friends,
I'm confused about how to install packages from source.
I just updated R in Lenny from http://cran.fiocruz.br/bin/linux/debian/
I included in sources.list:
deb http://cran.fiocruz.br/bin/linux/debian lenny-cran/
deb-src http://cran.fiocruz.br/bin/linux/debian lenny-cran/
Then:
apt-get update
apt-get install r-base r-base-dev
Then I downloaded the package

gradient fill of a grid.polygon
Dear list,
Following a recent enquiry, I've been playing with the idea of creating a
colour gradient for a polygon, using the Grid package. The idea is to draw a
number of stripes of different colours, using the grid.clip function. Below
is my current attempt at this,
library(grid)
rotate.polygon <- function(g, angle=0){ # utility function, works fine
matR <- matrix(c(cos(angle),

Re: [Nemo-devel] nuts status page
Adam: Thanks for putting up this page. But something is wrong. In
particular, our Powerware 9135 is a three phase UPS system with THREE 480
volt outputs. So the displayed voltage is not correct -- in fact there
should really be THREE voltages displayed, all around 480v.
Nut developers: I am copying the NUT mailing list to see if anyone can
suggest how to fix this. NUT developers, see the

apache refuses to start because of port conflict
Here is the deal. I''m trying out the latest Instant Rails and when I
start it Apache claims that the web port is being used.
"Apache cannot be runned : another Web server use the Web port"
Okay, no problem. I went into the Apache configuration and changed the
port it was binding to. However I get the same problem.
The troubleshooting continues, so I install Apache by itself

ggplot2: proper use of facet_grid inside a function
Hello Again R Folk:
I have found items about this in the archives, but I?m still not getting
it right. I want to use ggplot2 with facet_grid inside a function with
user specified variables, for instance:
p <- ggplot(data, aes_string(x = fac1, y = res)) + facet_grid(. ~
fac2)
Where data, fac1, fac2 and res are arguments to the function. I have
tried
p <- ggplot(data,

ggplot2: mapping categorical variable to color aesthetic with faceting

Invisible window problem
There is a bug which I am seeing and a few people are reporting
on the forum.
The problem is a hidden window which is always rendered on
top. It is always short and wide and appears near the
bottom-center of the screen.
Here is the output from xwininfo on that window, xprop produces
nothing.
