Source of chickwts data
I'm not sure if this is the right mailing list. My apologies if I'm
sending the question to the wrong mailing list.
(The r-packages list moderator suggested using the R-help list.)
My question is about the "chickwts" data in the datasets package.
According to help(chickwts), the source of the data is
?Anonymous (1948) Biometrika, 35, 214.
But this reference seems irrelevant.

bootstrapping Levene's test
Hello all,
I am low down on the learning curve of R but so far I have had little
trouble using most of the packages. However, recently I have run into
a wall when it comes to bootstrapping a Levene's test (from the car
package) and thought you might be able to help. I have not been able
to find R examples for the "boot" package where the test statistic
specifically uses a

Syntax of Levene's test
Dear All
I am trying to use Levene's test (of package car), but I do not
understand quite well how to use it. '?levene.test' does not
unfortunately provide any example. My data are in a data frame and
correspond to 4 factors plus response. Could someone please give me an
example about how to use the command
levene.test(y, group)
?
Thanks in advance,

Levene's Test for Homogeneity of Variance
Hi, All!
To calculate Levene's Test for Homogeneity of Variance I use R Commander,
and this is the output:
> levene.test(Dataset$age, Dataset$sex)
Levene's Test for Homogeneity of Variance
Df F value Pr(>F)
group 1 0.8739 0.3567
33
I am not sure what means "Pr(>F)"? Can anyone explain/translate this?

Drop single-dimensional array
Hi Simon, thank you for the concise reply.
Do you mean the reported behavior of drop() is not a bug?
It looks like a borderline bug to me (see below), but I'm not the judge of
that. If this is the intended behavior and serves an actual purpose, then
that could be explicitly documented in a \note{} on the help page.
Such a note would slightly reduce the surprise of users running into this

Welch test for equality of variance
Hello
Using R 2.2.1 on a Windows machine.
Has anyone programmed the Welch test for equality of variances?
I tried RSiteSearch, but this gave references to t test and
oneway.test, which are not quite what I need.....I need the Welch test
itself, for use in a meta-analysis (to determine if variances are
equal).
TIA

Unexpected behaviour when testing for independence with multiple factors
Hi, I'm a new user of R. My background is Electrical Engineering, so
please bear with me if this is a silly question.
I'm trying to assess whether the results of an experiment satisfy the
hypothesis of homoscedasticity (my ultimate goal is to use ANOVA).
The result of the experiment is mean delay (dT), which depends on
three factors, topology, drift, and lambda. The first two factors are
