update from local repo mirror
so this may be an odd question, but my google fu seems to be failing me. I've created a local mirror of centos 5 & 6 with various instructions across the net, it seems to be functional, syncs on a regular basis, and is generally usable (I've built machines with kickstart/netboot from it and they seem generally workable). my difficulty comes up when I try to use the local mirror for

grub issues on reinstall.
Hi all. sorry for an immediate question after subscribing, but I've managed to back myself into a frustrating corner. I've done some googling and come up dry, I figured I should try to post to the list while I dig through the archives. I have an issue with grub on a centos reinstall. my system previously had 1x 120g ide drive, 3 1tb sata drives in raid 5 md, 2 300 g in a raid 1 md,the

my setup
I'm not sure if this is helpful to anyone else and I can't decide if it's mildly clever or just a stupid pet trick, really. I recently decided to reinstall my work laptop with centos. as part of the install I used an 8g sandisk USB drive; it's roughly the size of a wireless mouse receiver. I put /boot, / and /usr on the USB drive, set encrypted partitions for swap, /home, /opt,

why I use chrome on CentOS
I use chrome on CentOS because I wrote a web socket web app and I can only get chrome to work properly with web sockets. I have a local web app created with erlang. It works like ms sccm to wake, freeze/thaw deepfreeze PCs and can update windows/mac/linux boxes when they need updates for some student computers labs and department/college class rooms. Thanks for your understanding for my need

NFS hard mount
Is there a tunable to set NFS hard mount time out? For instance, if the server becomes unavailable for extended amount of time, say 1 hour. I would like to timeout after 30 secs. (Soft mount isn't an option, BTW) -- --- Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.--

TRD like tool for linux?
so I found that one of my VM hosts seems to have been compromised in some way; I've shut it down, isolated it, found a few odd things like gibberish comments and odd hostnames that I don't recognise pointed back to 127.0.0.1 in /etc/hosts. I tried TRD and it seems mildly useful, but has more of a windowsy feel for what it wants to be able to fix. does anyone know of something with more
