Samba and logrotate from Redhat
Has anyone had any success in getting Samba to correctly restart logging to the log files with the default logrotate setup (or even a modified one) from RedHat? The default setup is to move the files to another location, create a new file for Samba to fill, then send the daemons a HUP signal. I've tried some of the options that can be used in the logrotate.d/samba file (nocreate and

Shared Memory Problems
I just thought I'd throw this out there because it doesn't seem normal to me. We have 2.0.5a on AIX 4.3.2. We initially tried to increase the shared mem size to 4MB. This would not happen until we rebooted AIX. Then smbstatus reported a 4MB shared mem size. Now we are trying to decrease it because we will only need about 2MB and it won't reduce. I suspect it will when we reboot

Advice on Samba for large site
Hi, I've been asked to research the possibility of changing our site from Novell to Samba. We've got 10,000+ client machines with about 30,000 users and currently use about 200-300 novell servers. I'm reasonably familiar with Samba but not on this scale. If anyone can point me towards a similar site then I'd be grateful. Currently we have a accouting system for each user for

Changing file permissions from NT
We run a Network of Suns (running Samba) and PC-NT (version 4, sp3) machines, at work, and find it very annoying to be unable to change the file permissions of files from NT on the Suns. Is there any way to change the permissions from NT file explorer or otherwise ? Dave Kirkby

Log analysis tools
Does anyone have any log analysis tools? I'm currently configured with "log file = /usr/local/samba/var/log.%m", which makes identifying issues with any one client easy, but doesn't provide me with an overall picture of what has been happening. What I'd like to be able to produce is a report showing, for a given unit time, the total number of clients that have connected,

Usage figures
When the students arrive in a few weeks, we will have several thousand registered samba users and (we anticipate) several hundred simultaneous Samba connections. (This will be our first period of significant Samba use.) Our management folks are asking about collecting periodic Samba usage figures. This is a bit vague, but something like a rolling count of simultaneous connections, per-user
